I started keto 5 years ago and hair loss didn’t hit me until 5 or six months in 😩 last year my hair finally started to grow back in but it’s never been the same. My hair is now dull lifeless and extremely brittle. But in the end I would rather have bad hair than weigh 240lbs again. So yes, it sucks but I’m in the best shape of my life. You gotta weigh the pros and cons.

Hello Autumn Leaves, It sounds to me like you are definitely suffering from some vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Being on Keto, we're told carbs are bad and to eat low carb diets. So we cut out things like bread, grains and beans. If you go to the store or look online at the nutritional label of a loaf of Wonder Bread. You'll notice that they add in about a dozen or more vitamins and minerals. Some are just there naturally as well but most are synthesized additives. Things like Folate, Niacin, Thiamine, Selenium etc. etc... Organic wheat, grains and legumes can still be consumed on a low carb Keto diet, just in moderation. Like a 1/4 cup of organic beans on salad compared to a whole bowl of bean soup. The point being, if you are on a low carb or keto diet. It is absolutely imperative that you still find a way to get those vitamins and minerals we have cut out of our deits. Some of which we just don't get on a keto diet or only get in very small almost insignificant amounts from the foods we do eat. It would be more ideal to not take a multivitamin and to just get the best versions possible of each vitamin and mineral. However that gets really expensive and take a lot of research. So a multivitamin would definitely be better than nothing. The absolute best one I have found so far is called Complete Foods Multi from a company called Trace Minerals. As far as I am concerned, it is the best thing since sliced bread, pun intended. It has absolutely everything and I mean almost everything as far as your vitamin and mineral nutritional needs go. Best wishes to you, take care! ~Cameron.

It's also good to see your doctor because there could be other deficiencies happening such as iron from anemia. This can also cause hair loss. Autoimmune issues as well can cause hair loss. These things can occur simultaneously with the effects of changing diet so it isn't good to automatically assume that all of the hair loss relates to diet change alone.

As a nurse for 41 years ( age 65) a HUGE cause of hair loss is side effects from medication, almost all blood pressure medication can have this potential side effect, for myself I experienced this after a blood pressure medication I had tolerated for years was increased, just something to be aware of.

Love you girls and I trust your honesty. Been Keto for 1 year and lost more weight than I actually set out to. I am 66 yrs old and was 230, now 175. Will be keto for the rest of my life for sure. That aside, I just ordered the pro model with your code. My wife and I both have hair loss issues and she is more concerned about it than me for sure. I just chalk it up as being a male hormonal thing when you get older, even though my loss started in my mid 30's. I am anxious to see how it works for us. Keep up the great work. That video was very interesting. I learned a lot about hair growth. I had very coarse thick hair growing up. Now looking back, I can see how I abused my hair between. Chemically straightening and hot iron and always pulling it back tight. One day I went in to the salon to have my hair done. Before they touched my hair, I told her that when my hair gets wet it expands and gets extremely frizzy. She did not believe me because I had come in with straight hair. After she washed it, I heard her say, “oh my God!” 😩. My hair has thinned out a lot, but not from the keto diet, but from hair abuse and old age (68). But, my husband still loves me.

I lost about 1/3 of my hair after 3 mos on keto and eating 1 meal a day. One concept was lack of nutrition. After losing 40lbs during that time I started eating 2 meals a day (for maintenance) and added supplements including biotin. After just over a year I have about 4 inches of new growth (my hair and nails also grow long faster). I’m 76 so do lose some of my mostly white and grey hair when I shower but only average amt. I started wearing wigs (have 4 from wigstudio1) and still wear them when I dress up because I look 20 years younger with them (or so I’m told). I have 1 light red and 3 blondes and have so much fun with them. Good luck everyone

Great info! The funny thing is that my hair has improved with keto and I have wondered why. Google searches revealed nothing, but I guess I should have been looking at what people do to improve it to see what I was accidentally doing correctly. Some of the things you mentioned were intentional (MCT, biotin, zinc) and others were because they just happened. It turns out that I checked most of the boxes and my hair is better than ever. I will say that (mostly out of not liking to deal with hair stuff) I don’t color or use heat, all that’s done is 2x week washing, air drying, and a bit of curl shaping product. So I guess my experience can be shared as a testament that the items listed indeed worked for me! 😂

I stopped coloring my hair and let it grown out to grey, and which point I cut it short after 4 mo. I’ve notice my hair looks much thinner now and my scalp has dry patches. My stylist said it could definitely be caused by diet, missing nutrients, as well as stress and illness. Was wondering if Keto had impact. Thanks for this vid

File this under: the grass is always greener. Seeing what your hair looks like 'naturally'? I'm so incredibly jealous!! I grew up with stick straight hair that would never hold a curl. We got our hair permed so many times which really didn't do anything but make it frizzy, no real 'curl'. I'll be 60 in about 6 months and to this day, I do anything I can to get texture into my hair!! I pray for hair like yours!!! Again, we always want what we don't already have.... I've lost 49 lbs thus far on IF/Keto and will continue. I lost probably half my hair, and like you, I had a ton of it so no one can see it. Thank God. I'm taking a DHT blocker and I'm losing far less than I used to. Diet added to stress at work added to menopause issues... who knows. I'm just thankful I'm healthy!!!

In the same boat plus anemic. When I brush my hair I cringe. The shower drain and my brushes have to be cleaned constantly. I did try hair products to regrow but they didn't work. It's topical and since nails/hair are the last to get nutrients I feel like it's a losing battle. Sending positive juju to everyone though. What may not work for me may indeed work for you.

Cool video! An interesting topic and change of pace from the recipes. It looks like a bicycle helmet. You should suggest the company make a battery powered bicycle helmet version. Then people could go for a nice 25 minutes bike ride and killing two birds with one stone. P.S. No actual birds were killed or intended to be harmed from the writing of this comment.

Thank you for letting us know that even tight ponytails damage hair. In the military hair is pulled tight everyday and my keto diet is more on the “I try to stay in ketosis” but I am not always there. With over 20 years of having to have that tight hairstyle and keto-ish for 3 years it explains the hair thinning. Making adjustments from here on out and will look into the sponsors product, guessing by the discount it will probably be out of my price range.

Y'all have amazing hair! I wish I could grow my hair past my shoulders but its not happening...so I have a history of alopecia areata, I will say biotin, prenatal vitamins, omega 3, all have helped grow my hair back when I had flair ups. I’m surprised you didn’t mention how important it is to take electrolytes for hair loss! Lack of electrolytes and minerals is definitely a big reason why folks on Keto lose hair. Coincidentally, my hairdresser accidentally burned my hair off by over bleaching it 😭 Shortly after this happened, someone mentioned to my husband that diet change can cause hair loss. I don't want to tell you how annoyed I was when he mentioned this to me, thinking that the reason that all my hair fell out was because of starting the keto diet, rather than a gross error by my then hairdresser !! No worries, water under the bridge. My hair has grown back, and I have since embraced the curly girl method by the way, you girls should give it a try!
