You’re one of the best in the game, making this kind of informative content about pouring. Really phenomenal channel that I continue to return to. Also your work speaks for itself! Many beautiful pieces! Btw it may interest you to know, I’ve had some really great results working with the normal tube paint bloom recipe you posted recently, using variations on it for a variety of different kinds of pours recently; I had been tending to use a thinner mixture before that (typically about 3 parts floetrol/pouring medium to 1 part paint rather than 2 to 1), & on this last one, I found that if I used 2 to 1 strained US floetrol to paint, & added just a little bit of gloss gel medium (I had recently bought a big tube of the Liquitex Basics version)- about 1 gram per ~20g or more of paint+floetrol mix I believe… & then, similar to what you showed in the short on this subject, a tiny bit of water added to my colors, except for my Amsterdam titanium white &/or oxide black cell activator (I think the colors got about 8 drops of water per 25g of paint mixture), the result had some really interesting properties due to the combination of the gloss finish & the thickness of the mixture… Wven after it dried & cured 100%, it retained a texture of slightly elevated ridges in the shape of the pattern I ended up with (it wasn’t a cell-heavy pour because I didn’t swipe or anything in the traditional cell activator way for this one- it was very experimental- but I really like how it came out for the most part). And because of the very shiny gloss, when it catches the light that textural surface of elevated ridges becomes very visible- it looks awesome…. reminds me of the “textra” effect you can get on high-end metal posters from Displate, where they similarly emboss a texture onto the surface, so that it creates an elevated relief that follows the forms of the image. Lol I’ve never bought one because they’re expensive with that option, but the appearance is very similar from what it looks like on their site. Anyway, thanks for helping me continue to improve!

oh wow I don't even know what to say, really, thank you so much! I'm very flattered! I believe what you've stumbled upon my friend is a phenomenon called the hydrophobic effect, and it is yet again, one of the more unfortunately named techniques because it's name can be misleading. While hydrophobic generally refers to oils, it can also refer to how the sheens of different liquids interact with each other - in the case you're describing is when layers of paint are very glossy and they're mingling in a painting with other paints that are satin or even matte. you'll notice that they kind of "slide" off each other leaving that texture you were describing, and even creating cells in the process. This is at the core of the straight pour, cloud pour, and several other techniques that create cells but in a not-so-obvious way Isn't it awesome how we can find these things out independently from each other?

Muchas gracias por tus consejos , tus vídeos son muy buenos y hay pocos que explican esta técnica sin el floetrol australiano. En España se consigue el de la marca Owatrol , que debe ser parecido al de EEUU.

You’re welcome my friend😄 correct! You can use Owatrol instead of US floetrol in this recipe as your pouring medium but you might need a small amount of water because Owatrol is a little thicker than floetrol

That makes sense! I have been using Floetrol and silicone at the same time and not getting cells so I guess it’s a no go. 😮
