Carnivore for almost 2 years here. Yes you can gain weight on this diet. Your body will go into storage mode when you under eat and you will get mood swings and yr weight won't budge. My fix is have one meal a day. The first 2-3 days will be difficult after that its automatic, and easy. You see yr weight steadily drop. When it drop to yr desired weight, go back to two meals. Took me a couple of years to learn this. I hope it helps someone.

That's some valuable advice! It's great to hear from someone with nearly two years of experience on the Carnivore diet. It’s true, undereating can lead to your body holding onto weight. Transitioning to one meal a day (OMAD) seems like a practical solution, even if the first few days are tough. It’s encouraging to know that once your body adjusts, it becomes easier, and the weight starts to drop. Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Dr Westman, and for always giving sage wisdom and critiques on dietary messages from others! I haven't watched a video of yours in a while, so am surprised that you are promoting LMNT. Sure, while these minerals are required in our diets, we get them from our food & can always add salt to our meals if required. I follow this WOE (carnivore for those who like labels) because of gut issues and gained immediate results by cutting out plants. Then I thought that I was doing the 'right' thing by incorporating electrolyte supplements. After carnivoring hard for 2 years, I gave up electrolytes. My body went through several days of detox. Once on the other side I began to do soooo much better and feel as though I am finally healing, all without electrolytes!! My advice to others (especially if you have gut issues!!) is not to use electrolytes of any kind. Purchasing these products is just another mind trap, no different to popping a pill because you believe it is a cure! I'm now 3 years into this WOE and feel that I wasted 2 of them - when you're in your 50s, this is frustrating... And incidentally, I didn't use LMNT as my primary electrolyte, but did try it once and thought that it was sickly & gross.

LMNT has undisclosed ingredients (maltodextrin), listed under natural flavors (check orange salt and raspberry salt). They also say on their website that anyone can make their own electrolyte drink using THEIR ratios. So, in THEIR ingredients: sodium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium malate (not the best or bio-available choices or highest quality choices for the price). When THEY show you how to make it on your own, THEY list potassium citrate for the ingredient you should use while they use potassium chloride in THEIR mixes. While THEIR packets are convenient and won't kill you, these are two examples of why people are finding THEM un-trustworthy. Maltodextrine, really? Lots of us out here are doing our best to change and adapt our lifestyles to a low carb lifestyle and would be better off making our own making our own electrolyte mixes ourselves. Keeping it simple is one of the reasons you are so beloved and trusted in this space. Thank you for all the work and help you are giving to so many.

Some questions and ideas: Have you been doing keto for sometime? Did you water fast for at least 14 hours before taking the blood test, some doctors either don’t mention it or say it doesn’t matter? Having alcoholic beverages can increase triglycerides and even if you have it 2 days before the test - alcohol can affect your HbA1c also. If you have hypothyroidism that can affect lipid panels and trig. Consuming a lot of dairy, cheese and liquid fats can also affect it. Just a few things to consider.

Getting out of the fog and see you wasted almost half of your life and all your youth is hard pill to swallow. Even from this post you can see i have no one to talk. I am little baffled of him promoting this as when i go full carnivore i have to stop all supplementation. I just use sea salt more often and put few grains of Himalayan salt in my drink. Even have a smoked salt flakes. But i think this is important for the beginners as i remember out right munching on salt. As in ketosis body is more efficient and after i load up on all the trace elements my salt intake fluctuates. Sometime i cant get enough, mostly in summer as i lost significant amount true sweat. And other times is everything salty. But i certainly abstain from anything flavored certainly supplementation. So far any product made to aid KETO was a disaster as it was loaded with hidden carbs all the time. We have to remember they always make product we want not one that we need. Hope you remember the nonsense of net carbs. But recent JRK comment on McDonalds give me hope for global change. Also he want to do one thing the food conglomerates fear as to not banned foods but educate the public. Then you dont have to even ban dangerous food additives in cereal and fast food if you dont eat it in the first place. GMO free, BIO, ECO, NO ADDITIVES and NO ADDED SUGAR dont applied to animal based foods. Now i view labels as vegan or plant based as warning labels. Not sure about US but in EU oil specially olive oil get so expensive it cost same as lard. i think the perfect time to do the switch as money is not much of a factor now.

I'm losing about 3 pounds per week and only weigh at a doctor's appointment. I eat when hungry, stop when it doesn't taste good anymore, and try to eat no more than twice a day, but I do try to listen to my body and it's hungry I'll eat. I'm consuming 2-3 lbs of beef per day. I'm sure I'll hit a stall at some point, but hopefully not until I get closer to whatever my ideal weight is.

Skinny inside fat outside (TIFO) is a new term/concept for me. Is it possible to be the opposite? Skinny inside fat outside? I've tried to look it up but can't really find it. I've been losing weight successfully this yr (about 50 lbs in 10 most) but very slowly...which is healthy I guess but a little demoralizing when people say they lose 20 lbs in the first 2 mos. That was never me. I don't lose double digits even early on in any weight loss journey I've tried I tend to lose more like 3-6 per mo...until this month where it will likely be 0. I assume bc I'm eating more calories as my carbs are restrictive but not keto (50-80g/day). On WW I wasn't eating enough. I was successful but according to MyFitnessPal I was eating less than 1200 on the weekends especially...and now with a more high protein diet I'm eating 1800-2200 calories per day. I fear my metabolism may be so messed up that calorie restriction....to super low levels ...is the only way I will continue my success. I am still considered obese and have at least 70 lbs more to lose to be well in normal BMI levels. I've not been eating this high protein diet long. I'll continue to follow through the holidays and see what happens.
@MinimalistCarnivoreАй бұрын
Hello Not sure about the opposite term but yes I think many are :) but that changes as we eat this way in the sense we were fat and weak and not optimum or we lack muscles that are needed and doing this way of eating brings us back to our optimum so the losing fat and gaining muscle in some sense was us being skinny on inside while being fat outside and that natural slow process of gaining muscle and losing the fat does balance us back out by diet Which is also what TOFI folks have to do with a few coming down to diet and their lifestyle or 2 things they might need to change a bit not get rid of just change

I had to stop moving because of cervical spine issues - super bad neurological pain, numb hands, etc. 24-7. I also did weight-bearing and other exercises. The complete stoppage of activity meant I gained weight. No scales in my house EVER, but the difference in size and muscle tone is obvious. I've mostly fixed the cervical issues (with diet, hello!), and slowly getting back to my physicality. My body misses exercise so much! Weights, rowing, walking, whatever exercise we do, contributes to our health and weight ... it's not about CICO, though in one way it is, if you know what I mean. I don't know if that was helpful to anyone, but I hope so. x

Truthful Kindness here ~65yo. I am one of those who has lost hunger sensors, now VERY few tastes; not even salty sweet (>10yrs dementia symptoms) but very frequent small meals (blood sugar crashes at 2.5hrs, so i supplement with protein-cashew drink which i tolerate much better than food tasting like cardboard). ~25g carbs per day, and i really try to keep calories over 1200, especially on days that i use my handicap treadmill. Until this year, despite low carb lifestyle i have been unable to lose weight (dementia sleep problems, BM problems etc). Now sleeping with assistance from Rx. Lost 30 Lbs this year 2024, have ~40 Lbs yet to lose. But since summer only losing about 1 lb per month, despite best practices for sleep, drink, exercise, BM, etc .

OMAD is not 24h fasting, for most people, I assume. At least not for me. My OMAD in reality means minimum 23 or more realistically 22h fasting, depending on day, while I do this "one meal" in 1-2h window. I don't think most people can chug down 1kg of meat in like 5-10 minutes, so they can call it a "24h fast". Just saying.

I would say NO to all food groups these days many fruits veggies are NOTHING like we had in past and we now have it 24/7-365 so if you want to enjoy some other things small amounts ONLY what was in season or better yet JUST what you can grow in your garden :) and that also keeps it to what you would have regionally because humans did not have access to so many things But again if you want to have some variety and that is whole food and it makes you happy go for it :) enjoy your meals enjoy the life for me and many anything else causes issues and is NOT optimal I also say TRY it for 90 days so you know what its about :) Many speak like just eat everything and yet have never done this way of eating ? So that speaking from experience and then if you did why did that not work to share :)

I will never buy LMNT. When a company uses maltodextrin in their product and hides the ingredient under the umbrella of "natural flavors", I want nothing to do with them. The truth is "Maltodextrin is generally not considered a "natural flavor" despite being derived from natural sources like corn starch, as it undergoes significant processing that alters its original form, making it more of a food additive used to modify texture and flavor rather than a distinct natural flavor itself." It is deceptive to call it a natural flavor. So much for their commitment to purity. Simply NOT TRUE.

It’s funny, a lovely, educative video and all anyone can do is pull out negativity about a company they chose not to investigate for themselves prior to purchase. All information was disclosed on their website for some time. Further, not following DR. W because you chose not to research a product is really silly.
@LowCarbLowDramaАй бұрын
Being lied to is deeply hurtful, especially by someone you believed to be part of your own community. The majority in this space suffer from metabolic derangements, and lying to them-claiming there are no dodgy ingredients while maltodextrin is the second-highest ingredient on the list, even outweighing potassium and magnesium combined-is unacceptable. Profiting off the sick through lies is unacceptable and unethical. Supporting such companies is wrong.

I don’t like LMNT. Even before the scandal, I didn’t like it. Without flavouring it tastes crap, flavouring means added crap which some of us cannot tolerate. I don’t believe that the owners/managers didn’t know the full story. It’s their job to know EVERYTHING about their product. I use a product from HEYLO called magnesium Recovery. I like it because it has extra Vit C, extra Vit B, and another product to help with muscles (which I specifically need). Being ultra “clean” is overrated. It simply is not necessary (except in exceptional circumstances) to achieve the results we desire. But we have to figure this stuff out for ourselves.
