My county in Florida was one of first Second Amendment Sanctuary county. Armed homeowners and neighbors make for safe neighborhoods, guns were not made for fights with neighbors, spouses, or road rage incidents. Florida comes down heavy on any weapons used criminally. I feel very safe. My five months in Brazil I carry Gel Mace, a collapsible baton and a knife. And I feel very safe in Brazil. Most of the gun violence here is in the “marginals” and favelas. I am pretty boring too, not a heavy drinker or weed smoker. BTW weed was just legalized here in Brazil for personal consumption. I remember being a young man in DR with many gf’s in the outlying barrios and remember my car breaking down and the young kids staying with me until I got road assistance, not what I was used to growing up in NYC. Safety is what you make it. Good judgement, situational awareness and always observing egress routes when things go south

Jay, great topic! Man I’ve lived in the DR for a while and I can honestly say that the DR is safe. Not to throw any shade at the US, cause that is my homeland which has afforded me a comfortable lifestyle, but there are cities in the US you couldn’t catch me after dark. That said, are there neighborhoods in the DR with that same crime profile, absolutely! But, it’s on a smaller scale, and the culture doesn’t allow for rampart violence against its people. You said it best, don’t put yourself in positions that will increase the probability of becoming a target. The DR is expected to surpass last years tourism numbers (10,000,000) to 11,000,000 people this year. So, obviously people aren’t buying the fear factor. ✌🏽

In all places on this good old planet, people have to learn how to move while living in each country. I know a brother who has brought a house in Sosua. He claimed that Santiago is the best place in the DR. He claimed that Santo Domingo is dangerous. However, I have to go visit and see for myself. Every since Covid, I have wanted to buy a property there in Santo Domingo. I survived the United States. Surely I can survive the DR. I will be alright. You will be alright. We will be alright. I'm not afraid to live in Brazil either. Gotta learn how to move around in that country. Thank you for your video. I need to learn about dating in the DR as a single man. If I decide to live there, I must learn fluent Espanol. It is a must. I believe that life would be so much of an smoother place to live that way. I'm on my to the DR. Thanks.

Oh, sir, I don't like what you said. But I have to admit that you're on point. I wish the US have kept creeping to a less racist society. Instead, it appears that the white nationalism came back with a vengeance to punish us for Obama. Now they carry their bigotry as a badge of honor and have added division to the equation, and today SCOTUS has virtually granted immunity to POTUS!

I just discovered your channel and thanks for sharing truth. I been living in Santo Domingo for 5 years and feel super safe. I do not have a car and walk to the gym, bank, parks, grocery store daily. I take uber when I have to travel further. People are always telling me to be safe and I respond that they do the same as there are more guns in the USA than people. You mentioned USA gun violence, mass shootings and random violence, but let me add another wave of violence in the USA which is mental health (psychotic street walkers) who randomly commit violent acts. I worked with abused children for 24 years before moving to the DR and let me tell you every time I see kids alone playing in the streets with out a worry of a predator snatching them up I smile and say to myself, Not in the USA.

I stayed in this hotel before and loved it, clean, the staff there are so nice. They didn’t have that rooftop bar though when I was there. A lot of the uptick in crimes here in the states are coming from the migrants that keep coming here, the border is still wide open.

In the estate i was there were armed guards with shotguns so i was like "wow"... Then as the days goes by, the more comfortable i felt and during my stay never once i felt i need to b on alert... In the meantime when i go to the us, i am always on alert... You know random attack, random shootings ect. I was at a mall in nothern new york, my kids and wife was at the trempoline park but me i stayed outside on the lookout in case some rando decide to exerce his second amendment right... @JayAbroad
@JayAbroad 3 ай бұрын
The instability in Haiti is Haiti's problem mostly. Doesn't impact Dominicans on a large scale not that I'm seeing. The infrastructure here is built for tropical storms and hurricanes for the most part. I've been here for 3 years and have not experienced a real storm. When it is a heavy rain it does flood and after 3 to 5 days it's back to normal pretty much.

Those stats are misleading. Look at population size vs the amount of deaths.
@JayAbroad
@JayAbroad 2 ай бұрын
What's misleading is people like you who always try to defend that nonsense in the States. It's disgusting that people like to try to justify random violence as normal because of population size when 6 and 7 years kids are getting slaughtered slaughtered in schools, elderly people gunned down in churches, and innocent people shopping in grocery stores lose their lives. It's pathetic. That's why I said nothing about homicides. I strictly mentioned mass shootings and school shootings, which have nothing to do with population or size. It's a random act of violence by a fool. And everything to do with US gun culture. If I mentioned deaths, it would have been a lot more. China has a billion people. Why is it that they don't have all this random violence I mentioned? Based on your logic, they should. So miss with that population/size B.S. Bro, i pray you're living your best life because you can see I'm living mine.

America is not as friendly, and that's sad. DR no mass shootings, no fucked up attitudes, no random violence. Be well sir😎💯✌🏾

I guess those 6 year old kids in Uvalde shouldn't have been in school, or those Ederly black people shouldn't have been in church worshipping on a Sunday in South Carolina, or those people shouldn't have been in that Dollar General in Michigan. Maybe Tamir Rice shouldn't have been playing in that park. Maybe those people shouldn't have been in that concert in Las Vegas. Or those people in the Bowling Alley in Maine. What about those people working in that bank in Lousiville, guess they shouldn't have been at work. Now your turn. Tell me where in DR have you heard anything similar. Yeah it does depend...depends on if you are in the US. SMH...

I couldn't agree more with your take. People should always move accordingly no matter where they are. Know where to go and where not to and never put yourself in a compromising position. Most of the crime happens in barrios due to poverty but Santo Domingo has a bunch of amazing places away from the BS where you can enjoy yourself while feeling completely safe. Great Video.

I'm glad you touched on the subject. I've been hitting Santo Domingo since 2020 and I kick it to Dominicans about that. I think a lot of them equate poverty to violence, which isn't the case. They don't realize we come from some of the most dangerous and violent cities in the world because of the value of the dollar compared to theirs. They see our lifestyles and think it can't be worse than where we live from a safety perspective

Safety is relative. People from Rwanda and Japan would be appalled that they can't walk at 3am. Is it safe, compared to where and who.
@JayAbroad

It's funny that one of the first things i hear people say but can you walk at 3am in the morning. Why is that the go to? What percentage of people in comparison to that population are actually walking around at 3am in the morning in these places? The problem with Americans everything is a gray area and subjective. Bro, I want to be able to go grocery shopping at 2pm in the afternoon without being gun down. I want to send my daughter to school without having to mass shooter drills and thinking if she will come home. I want to not think any interaction with the cops can lead to my death. I want my mother to be able to go to church without having to go through a metal detector because some lunatic. Can we eat at a restaurant in peace without fear of our life. Can our kids play in a park without fear. Bro, I think they'd be more appalled at that than walking at 3am in the morning when 95% of world is sleep. I could carelessly whether I could walk around at 3am in morning.

@passportandbeer I understand that and yes that an extra bonus but that's not basic safety. We have to agree everything I mentioned is normal the entire world is doing what I mentioned and a very small percentage is doing what you mentioned. Again that is an added bonus but it is not on a lot of people's checklist when considering safety if it's safe to walk around at that time. It's mostly a confirmation of how safe a place can be.

@@JayAbroad in my opinion it's not a bonus most societies have been traumatized to accept that you're just not supposed to be out that late versus actually seeing a fundamental problem with the society. It's like blaming the victim of a violent crime. Unfortunately too many countries are in too deep now for a overnight transformation. You have extreme cases of a president taking action like El Salvador and now they're the most peaceful country in the whole Western hemisphere from being the murder capital of the world.
