But all this are just really in my head because of personal stress and other things.

Learning how to deal with league tilt, is legit a correlation with dealing with IRL obstacles and life. Creating a better mindset in league helps with developing your mindset with dealing with life's challenges and working on self improvement and the things YOU can control. Awesome video for both.
@coachboc29 күн бұрын
I agree. Sometimes life (and the game) just get too much and it is valid to get tilted, but the more personal responsibility and emtional control you develop, the healthier you will be able to handle uncomfortable situations. But noone is perfect, it's always a work in progress!

Excellent video. I peaked in Challenger in Korea back in season 4 (wanted to get scouted since I'm half Korean), then I messed up my wrists, having carpal tunnel in both my wrists. I hovered in high Master Tier and Grandmaster tier whenever I got the time to grind back up again. Funnily enough, it was this year that I finally mellowed out from the game. I used to have big expectations of myself where I /had/ to be Grandmaster tier that I tilted off the face of the earth if I played horribly or my team ran it down/trolled. Ever since I started kendo about 7 months ago though, I learned to kill my own ego and focus on self improvement/fighting off my own rust. Kendo is very repetitive and focuses on the basics. Before you go spar with other kendokas, you repeat the most basic drills of cuts, footwork, measuring distance, etc. Practicing it at home as well had allowed me to hone my mind into focusing in the basics and becoming better than who I was yesterday, or even just a moment before. I slowly realized that building up on the basics and the skills, aka the journey, was more important than the destination. Back to how I related it to League after yapping, I started focusing less on winning or losing, and whether I would reach my consistent rank, and I focused on having better decision-making, teamfighting, etc. I also took to mind of what Faker said about regarding losses as 'small victories.' And funnily enough, I fell in love with this game again, like I was rediscovering it back in 2010. I'm back in Master tier now, and having fun while grinding!
@coachbocАй бұрын
@desideriaa wow, that's a really inspiring story. I've never done kendo, so I cannot related to that, but I did fall out of love with the game for a period and had to rediscover what it was that I wanted to get out of it before I could find my joy again. I wish you luck!

Very glad that you talked about ranked anxiety. I identify with that a lot (also maybe a little bit of tilt because I really do enjoy this game which makes it frustrating when silly things happen). I've never even actually played a game against other people before because I hated knowing that I was trash and that it would be glaringly obvious for everyone in game to see that I was bringing my team down. Admittedly it was a bit of an overreaction but I had fun just playing against the A. I. and I was content to keep it that way. Soon enough I hit level 50 and realised that even without ever really playing against people, I was probably better than some others and had improved without actually realising it. This video has certainly changed my perspective and now I'm not so worried about what others think of me as long as I'm trying to improve. Even if it takes ages, I'll get there eventually and I've learned to lower my expectations for what's possible and to be happy with these small victories. If I get a couple kills on a human enemy laner or slowly improve my csing and last-hitting, I'll be happy and pleased with myself even if we lose the game. Thank you coach Boc. It's so easy to feel inadequate against other players that you forget we all had to start somewhere and we all learn and grow at our own pace. You've helped out not just me but lots of us low level players and it means a hell of a lot. 🙏

I really used to get so tilted when I started playing in season 5-8. I can honestly say i was expressing an unmet psychological strain in my subconscious and letting a game dictate if i felt alright. I got my life together and learned to address the underlying issues and when i started playing again this year with my partner, i realized that it really doesn't bother me to lose anymore. I really feel bad for people who get angry over a video game, especially when they lash out at the other people they are playing with. It is a sign of a weak psychological state and should be addressed. Flaming your own team, other real people you're playing a game with, is sad.

I struggle hard with tilt in the games I play (why I'm here, even if I only play unite and wild rift). I can be absolutely brutal on myself for making mistakes, and the thing I've noticed is that no matter how much better I get it doesn't make the tilt go away - it just means the bar moves for what I expect from myself and sometimes I tilt when I don't live up to it, especially if I worry about what other people expect of me (high expectations sometimes) and what they will think if I in particular have a bad results with a main I'm normally good with. I know it's the ego I have to defeat so I can relax and have more fun again. The ego is tough though. The passion for playing keeps me going. Been going through a lot of hardships in life throughout the course of my gaming with these so I know it's not just the games too. I like the wholistic approach this video took and I think putting that into perspective is going to help me a lot so thank you.

I feel like i'm (relatively) less emotional when it's not going well, but just a bad player. failing to track jg, kite, and react. sorry for whining. now i'm quite a light player who plays League a few games a week, but it's the same when I'm playing chess. your video reminds my weakness I've struggled with for a long time. I mean, thanks for a great video.

I think we all have our own shortcommings, and improving in league looks like improving in any other aspect of your life. It might be slow, but it IS possible through effort and intention! And some people improve more slowly or in different ways. I would just encourage you to keep at it as long as you're having FUN! And if you're not, then switch things up and see what happens!

@pellyryu2344 if you haven't seen my other video about improvement, I would recommend you start there. I give a resource I made that helps with habit/goal tracking that may help you keep focused. As far as a tip for you on staying focused, there are many things that you could try.. but it depends on what is distracting you. Keeping your daily goal as a sticky note on the bottom of your monitor or Taking 5 minute breaks after each game Or Doing a 10 second breathing exercise during your death timers Or Playing with a league-metronome to help you stay focused. All these things have helped players of various elos!

I'm not talking about myself, I'm talking about my friend who has been in bronze for 4 years. We play 2-4 games every now and then and over the course of the year he plays 150-200 games. Because of the introduction of iron and emerald and the 3 seasons per year, he is hard stuck in bronze. His whole account and his MMR are so bad that even if he played 100 more games he wouldn't climb. He knows so much about the game and has gotten so much better mechanically. I've never seen him tilt and he's always open to tips or advice. He can't sit down for hours and learn lots of other things and play lots more because of time constraints. Is there really no way to help him?

@@DeinoTV What i am looking at here, is he just has not played very much at all in the past year. S24 Split 3 : 10 Games S24 Split 2 : 0 Games S24 Split 1 : 5 Games S23 Split 2 : 76 games S23 Split 1: 18 Games S22 : 38 Games Without seeing his gameplay, I can only offer limited advice. But I will try anyways! It COULD be the case that your friend HAS learned a lot about the game in the time they spent in 2023 playing more soloQ, but due to the fact that they have played basically 0 soloQ this year, they have not actually had the chance to "prove" that knowledge and climb in ranked. Also, in Season 23, they did play a lot more games, and it looks like their best/main role is support. But I'm seeing some jungle games, some ADC games, some Top games.. I would advise them to shrink their champ pool down a bit.. IF their goal is to climb! The "rule" is usually 3-5 champs in your main role.. and if you can do even less (like 1-2 champs) that is even better for climbing. If your friend does not want to do that, then no worries! It just means they will climb slower because they are trying to learn more things at once than someone who plays more games on a smaller champ pool. At least they have their strong mental though! that is a thing many people struggle with.

As a person playing from season 2, my number 1 tip is: Focus on something you can measure improvement on. CS/min, ward score, jungle tracking etc. prioritize improvement over climbing the ladder. If you can, avoid looking at your rank altogether. Bonus: ignore teammate competency, if you’re not consistently better than them, you are where you belong on the ladder.

For me ranked is all about rewards. I like shiny stuff and borders are shiny. Every game when I lose I tilt because I don’t get closer to my goal. Found out that life would be easier and I would be happier playing ranked casually and just buying a boost to masters before the end of the season. I don’t tilt as often now because I don’t have to worry about not getting any shiny rewards. My goals are met and I am happy, isn’t that the goal at the end of the day?
@coachbocАй бұрын
@Bylefted if that is the solution that you have found that works for you, then that is better than you causing other people misery by playing the game when you are trying to gain rank. I do not think boosting is something that should be encouraged, but that is on you to figure out for yourself.
@ByleftedАй бұрын
@ yea I used to grind ranked a lot back in high school with my mates and I always held very high regard to people obtaining high ranks. Wanted to get those shiny borders no matter what it takes and it took a huge hit on my mental health. But now that I’m in a more favourable financial position with less time to commit to league, I feel that getting boosted still makes me happy while letting me enjoy irl commitments. It just looks shiny and pretty and that’s all there is to it. Also you get better quality games in masters compared so I genuinely don’t mind losing because people actually play well here.

I was an Irelia OTP that peaked diamond back in 2016. After years of neglecting that horrorgame, a few "friends" dragged me back into this hell. I ve come to find a lot of people becoming more refined in basically every role and different concepts. (Except some junglers that really don t understand anything about ganks or invades or especially lane states and prio for rotating to objectives still up to this day xd ). I ve gotten quite frustrated with it. Especially since I work full time now but still play the occasional draft or even ranked game with a few friends. SoloQ experience just seems abyssmal now. Like, recently I played one of my first real serious tryhardy placements and gapped the opponent mid so hard that I started throwing their jungle out of the game too. After just 2 wins I got calculated low Plat ELO. After that I got matched with 2 seperate trolls (1 each game, making winning impossible) and in the 5th game my toplaner sadly got gapped, which ended me in Iron 4. 💀 The whole powercreep and people getting better at exploiting what is essentually riots broken releases. I genuinely could not believe that a "tank assasine" or a "tank zoning mage bruiser" could exist. Boi got I surprised when I first played against Ksante, Skarner or Ambessa.. This video really helped to zoom out a bit and just start playing the game for the game instead of getting mad over riots newest balance adjustments. However I still can t help but feel almost useless in lower elos when playing midlane mages, especially when they re immobile. There is just so much statcheck nowadays with way too little teamplay to back it up. From my experience; the lower you get into ranked, the more scaling champions become broken, because everything takes just so unfathomably long that the match itself is drawn out to the 40 minute mark, where cho gath just walks down mid and ends their nexus. What I mean by this, is that you should play champions that are fun, because let s be honest, playing Sona or literally any othjer immobile squishy in this videogame must be one of the worst experiences known to man. I really didn t want to pick up Irelia again, since that would quite literally mean smurfing. But when looking at my recent matchups being Vayne, Teemo, Heimerdinger and Akshan, I begin to question if there is still a thing like toplane. I hard won 4 games and for now am at iron 2. When already having some vague understanding of Macro and some game sense it s incredibly easy to pick champions that statcheck their way through lower ranks. Being able to play the game makes the game also a lot more insufferable.
@coachbocАй бұрын
It's both really cool and really scary to see how far the general players base has grown over the years in terms of skill! Personally, I love the state the game is in where you can play a TON of champions in almost every single role and they have their own unique place. There is obviously a meta.. but unless you are Masters+, that really doesn't mean as much as it used to. I think what you mentioned in your post about feeling a lack of agency is something a lot of people feel as well. Being able to sit down and think of WHY you enjoy playing the game and what you hope to take away from your time here is a great starting place to rediscovering your enjoyment for the game. I wish you the best of luck!!

Iirc, the first subject you cover is called cognitaive dissonance, where someone is faced with a reality that is contrary to thier belief, which causes a stress response in the brain and the person will do whatever they need to do to either discard reality they have been faced with or realign their belief with reality. Usually the result is discarding reality and making excuses like "unlucky" or "hes not even good" and discard the reality in front of them.
@coachbocАй бұрын
@koolboy885 yup. You see this ALL the time.. If YOU die: the enemy champion is bullshit or your teammates suck If your teammates makes a mistake : you don't belong in this elo with these MONKEYS If you kill your enemy : they suck and you are the BEST. There's no losing for you

Hi i dont know if anyone is going to respond to this but. How would i decide what goals to set, even following the SMART goal setup since im a newish player decideing to main mid lane there is simply so much to learn and improve its near impossible to pick a starting goal. I havr past competitive game experience but this is my first moba and its hard to correlate goals and achievments.
@AHuemanАй бұрын
i'm not a high rank so take this with a grain of salt, but if you're just starting out then it's probably best to focus on developing a pool of 2 or 3 champions until you feel confident about picking any of them into most games. if you're not comfortable on a champion then it's that much harder to try to develop other skills while learning them
@coachbocАй бұрын
Hello! So I actually did another video on my channel where I spoke about improvement tracking/goal setting and gave out a free spreadsheet resource I made for people interested in getting started. Feel free to check that out : kzbin.info/www/bejne/lanRdH-fr6plaM0&t To address what you said; because you are new to MOBA's the cool thing is you can basically start ANYWHERE! But maybe that is leading you to some paralysis due to having too many options, so what I would recommend PERSONALLY is: - Find the champions (or style of champions) that most align with your preferred playstyle. For me, I love playing CSGO and PUBG, both games that prioritize positioning, rotations, and map awareness. So I enjoy champions that benefit less from the need for RAW mechanics, and more on how they help their team through good positioning, creating space through utility, and being where they need to be on the map. Tanks and bruisers top, jungle, and support essentially. But maybe you like the idea of HYPER CARRYING through damage, or being an assassin, etc.. After you've found your groove, watch some guides or content creators who main your champs and try and work on those mechanics as much as possible. Most of this game comes down to how well you understand your champions limits. From there.. go wild! I believe in you.
