With 20 years experience as an Internet crimes investigator, Detective Richard Wistocki shares his controversial view of how protecting your children online starts with not trusting their technology use.
Detective Richard Wistocki had been with the Naperville Police Department for 28 years, 22 as a SWAT sniper and 20 as an Internet Crimes Investigator. He is one of the founding members of the Illinois Attorney Generals High Tech Crimes Bureau (ICAC).
Rich’s concentration is in teaching parents how to manage their children’s online activities, and instructing law enforcement officers across the country how to investigate internet crimes against children. He is an instructor for National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC), the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) and the State of Illinois North East Multi Regional Training Cenger (NEMRT). He is also the creator of the Illinois Sexting Law, Sexual Exploitation of Children Online, and the Swatting Law.
Rich has also recently developed a case management and online training site for school administrators, SRO’s, juvenile officers, and states attorney’s for handling cases of sexting, cyber-bullying, and the new SB100 legislation

This is a great guide on how to get us modern day kids to isolate and distance ourselves from our parents. I like my privacy thank you, just ask us how we’re doing and don’t spy on us please and thank you.

Unfortunately, and you know this is true, just asking how you're doing is not always going to get parents the truth. And unfortunately thousands of kids get sextorted and sextrafficked because you are too young to realize a lot of things that can hurt you. That's part of a parent's job because they have the life experience you don't. A predator will hang out in chat rooms pretend to be your age and may spend a couple of years grooming you, during which time he will glean all sorts of personal information about you. Be Netsmart dude.

Well yeah they should talk to you everyday and everything but yes don’t spy nor taking our phones and look at them and we do have privacy. And trust me I would buy my own phone but I can’t work well at least I couldn’t when I was younger so wtf they want

@@Dis-guysMADyou get privacy when your old enough to afford your own place and your own devices. Until then everything you do is because I allow it or provide the opportunities. Sounds like a lot but that’s how parents are supposed to be. Kids don’t have a clue the danger that’s out there it’s a parents job to protect them. Too many parents try and be their kids friend and not parent.

“There is no such thing as privacy for children!” EXUSE ME THIS GUY- JUST WHAT WHAT I think i deserve just as much privacy as adults, but since privacy doesn’t matter and i’m just an object my parents should care for and watch every moment of my life, guess this guys privacy doesn’t matter either does it

you earn privacy. What you think you 'deserve' sounds like entitlement? best you be safe and angry at your parents than dead with a predator/stranger/trafficker.

Sorry to say it, but kids deserve privacy. If you want to know if your child is doing something wrong, TALK TO THEM. I agree that kids should be safe but don't invade their personal space. And just because the child charges their phone in their room does not mean they're going to do things bad on their phone. But they sometimes do, in that case if you think they are TALK TO THEM. You are allowed to disagree but this is just what I think.

Wtf is wrong with this guy, if parents keep monitoring their kids stuff , kids won't feel any trust towards their parents, the way to handle this is just to form a close bond with your child when they're young , talk about what's happening in their life , dont go snooping around, it *will* ruin your relationship with your kid
