@@BowerBomB Pretty much the point he was trying to make. And he's right. The media and politicians don't want you to think about what they are doing or saying, only to form some sort of emotional attachment to it. If you do that, it maked you less likely to research. It also makes you more likely to defend it even in the light of contradictory evidence. Finally, it also makes you more likely to vote favorably for a politician that manages to cause an emotional link to you... even if you hate them rather than like them.

He did his best, TED audiences are like, the anti-wrestling crowd, in that they're seeking profundity and insight while Bischoff just went in there and worked them into an uneasy silence they never saw coming. If only some people had the balls to start booing!

And in another metric the amount of wrestlers able to make a living on wrestling alone is at least equal to the territory days if not greater due to the success of NJPW and the British scene

As I said earlier there are more thriving companoes then ever, except the territory days perhaps, the revenue is up, the talent is getting paid, the only metric is less popularity but by all other accounts that doesn't matter at all. I've been saying for a while now that cable news has basically become pro-wrestling. The viewer has to tune in every day to see what the "bad guys" are doing, but they'll let the "good guy" win once in a blue moon to let the viewer know there's a chance that they will win. There's no reporting in cable news anymore, just narratives (similar to storylines or angles in pro-wrestling).

damn. haven't heard the name eric bischoff in a long time and he came back dropping facts. i noticed news media appealing to emotion more and more since the 2000s. It's a good way to keep people engaged without actually informing them of anything. the downside is you end up with a public who's blinded by rage and void of any fact or information. Politicians love it though. You couldn't produce an easier to manipulate crowd in a laboratory if you tried.

This is really mind-blowing. I'm a fan of Pro Wrestling too, and my country is about to hold a Presidential Election in April 2019. And looking at our candidates and our media, I'm 95% sure media in my country use this way of thinking when it comes to promotes them. Bischoff is a really smart guy!
