Appreciate the trouble you have taken on such an informative video. Useful for me as looking at the Elite E5 version. No future shock but read the ideas on upgrading tyres, saddle, stem and handlebar when I can afford. Should be good for the poor roads of England. Plus gearing good for step South Downs. Cheers!
@dano14863 жыл бұрын
The Elite E5 is excellent with a carbon seat post and carbon bar or Redshift stem. I have a 52cm and thought it was too small - refitted it and am loving it again.

I owned Roubaix with future shock 1.0 for couple years. I upgraded to Diverge 2022. Threw my Roval CLX wheelset, and BOOM created what i believe the Roubaix 2022 SHOULD have been. Loving the Diverge 1x so far. loving the option to throw back on the 42 wheels whenever i want to get dirty. One bike to rule them all !

What do I love about the Diverge (everything you mentioned) Plus that it comes in a size 64cm! I'm 6'6" (198cm). I like big bikes! (Sir Mix-alot). Also have first generation 2016 Diverge (64 cm), which I use (as a endurance road bike) 28cm tubules tires.

How do you like the aluminum vs a carbon fiber?

Did you use the stock seat collar for attaching the bike rack or did you get a different collar for attaching it?
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s the stock seat collar. It’s perfectly designed to install a rack.

Great video. Do you know if the Sunrace 8-speed cassette on the 2021 Diverge Base E5 can be replaced with the Shimano CS-HG50-10, 10-Speed 11-36t cassette?
@GreatEgretAdventure2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can't pair a 10sp cassette with the 8sp shifter that's on the Base E5. You can either get a 10sp shifter or buy an 8sp cassette. The problem is no company makes an 8sp cassette with a 36t ring new anymore. Not cheaply anyway. Your best bet is to get the 36t and upgrade to a 10sp shifter and cassette.

Dislike about mine is I don't get to ride it enough. Not a ton of miles yet so still shaking it down but it was a big upgrade over the checkpoint I had. I would say the future shock was the deal sealer!

Man, that’s the very best reason to dislike your bike. That future Shock is pretty nice!

I've got the same model, even same color. You mentioned tire clearance for 45, but specialized claims 47. I am running Maxxis Rambler 45s which measure out to 44 and there's still plenty of room, up to 50c I feel. As for gearing which wasn't mentioned, I was able to swap out rear cassette to a SRAM 11-36 for much needed low gear in the PNW. looking forward to the critiques...
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I misspoke about tire clearance. It is 47. The gearing on the Diverge, well almost all stock bikes, is definitely something I don’t love. That 11-34 just doesn’t cut it here in the Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin either.

I have the e comp 5 and have just Clocked up 500 miles on it. Nothing to complain about so far. Thinking about upgrades though if anyone has suggestions it would be great to hear them.
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
That’s a lot of bike for the cost. If it were mine, I’d get a more comfortable saddle and maybe a carbon handlebar to quell the road chatter. Down the road I’d upgrade to a wheel set you can run tubeless tires on. Other upgrades, like drivetrain or brakes, would depend on the type of riding you’re doing. Overall, though, the E5 Comp is a good bike stock.

@@GreatEgretAdventure thank you! Definitely thinking about a different wheel set and tyres which are more suited to summer and the tarmac. Looking forward to your next video on the diverge! 🙏

I have the tarmac black maroon comp e5 and upgraded to a Brooks C17 carved saddle/ Fsa K wing agx bars/ Teravail Washburn tires/ Crank brothers Stamp 7 pedals.
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
I am a HUGE fan of all Brooks saddles. Especially the C17. Those Teravails are similar to the Panaracer Gravelkings I use, but different enough that I want to try them out. They’ll likely be part of tire review video I’ll put out this autumn.

The 2021 feels very different from the 2019? Geometry speaking. I own a 2019 and not so sure if I should change for the new model.
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
It’s very different. The 2019 has more road-oriented geometry. The 2021 has what called “progressive geometry.” It’s slacker up front and has a longer wheelbase. It’s geometry that’s borrowed from the MTB world. The result is a bike that’s much more stable than the 2019, but also much less lively on the road. Specialized found a good balance between road and gravel with this design, but if your riding style is snappy on the road, the progressive geometry of the 2021 may not be for you. My next video talks a lot about these differences while choosing a gravel bike.

You didn't talk about why she went from a 54cm to a 52cm.
@GreatEgretAdventure2 жыл бұрын
Sorry. I did in a previous video. It’s not too exciting really. She’s was between sizes and at the height of Covid there were no bike fittings because of it. When she went back to the Sport the only one available was the 52. It’s been a good fit and now have a proper bike fitting, it fits great.

The Trek Domane can fit a 50mm 700c tire....
@GreatEgretAdventure3 жыл бұрын
That’s really great clearance. I misspoke. The clearance of the Diverge is 47mm. I love a large tire. I have 50mm Gravelkings on my Soma Wolverine. I won’t be able to put tires that size on my Bearclaw Thunderhawk, but with that bike 45mm should be just fine.
