I have the Tesla model 3 2021 long range awd. I do not charge 100%. Highest was 98% on a trip and got 305 miles to 5% power. My average charge is 84% after 11 months have not lost range, Keep it charge when at home. Battery will last longer. I did customized car with stripes on the hood and larger spoiler and custom the 18" wheels. To give it the muscle look, pictures on CF Tesla Facebook. The car is well worth it and it will save you money from high gas prices. It does have 2170 Battery but not 4680 new battery. I have prodiction 2122 the price will go up on the 4680 battery, so buy it now.

Ordered a Tesla Model Y AWD last week. Base color, base wheels, no options. Delivery date is September, 2022. That's what you call an order backlog. That's what you call demand. Waited to order because I'm hoping to get a car from the Texas Gigafactory which should be at a high production level by then (front and rear 1 piece castings, structural 4680 battery pack). Also the increase in TSLA stock in the past month more than paid for the Model Y. However most likely will finance and still hold all the TSLA. Might trade the Model Y when the Cybertruck arrives (day 1 reservation). TSLA stock has been a life changer for many, many of us.

I am glad to order my Y last spring and got it in June. Prices have gone up like 5 or 6k since. Has been the most enjoyable car I've owned and never plan to go back to conventional combustion engine car. Tip for new buyers: don't wait for tax credits from the govt. it will take forever and prices will definitely increase even more when it does. Not to mention deliveries will be much longer due to higher demand like Gjeebs said.

I agree that now is a good time to buy a Tesla. Even if you don't get a federal tax credit, if you wait until 2022, the price of the car may have increased almost as much as the credit. My model Y was bought in March 2021 for $53,190 (long range, midnight silver paint, white interior), but it would now cost $60,440 for the same vehicle; an increase of $7,250 in just 7 months. Telsa has increased the order fee from $100 to $250, and they work hard to bury the additional $1200 document fee until very late in the ordering process. Keep me in mind for the drawing.

All of a sudden Tesla decided to ship Model Ys from China to Europe. I only had to wait a few weeks after ordering. Crazy. And the Chinese ones are really well built. Ordering a Model Y now, the delivery is in December. 🙂

Got my Y in late June and could not be happier. FSD is a personal choice, and to me it makes no sense. Why would I buy a car that drives this well not to drive it? Already at 10k miles! :)

Glad you mentioned the credits as they are HUGE. However, I disagree that Tesla will be completely excluded from this credit. The current legislation doesn't and given that the new credits are mostly about giving domestic manufactures the credit back or preventing them from losing it, keeping a cap doesn't make sense. GM and Tesla are the reason the credit is changing along with Ford which probably would have run out next year. You can't make a law which singles an individual company out and Tesla could easily sue and win. The best you can do is create rules like the $4500 union rule that favors other companies and this has already been done.

What did you do to 'fund' the retirement? I don't think I can move my brokerage money into a protected retirement account. I do have some in my HSA but that's a separate thing and I can't put any more into there anyway. Just curious, as I cannot put anything else anywhere. I think that's just how it works though once you max things out.

Yup you hit all the points. I have an older model S and put in a reservation for a model Y two weeks ago. I already saved $2k. And. I am a Tesla stock holder from back when I bought my S. The increase in the stock last week will pay for my Y if I were to sell the stock. Just the increase. Crazy. For those in Arizona. Our state registration is changing so paying $5k more for performance to get it before the end of the year could be free. Why? Because you currently can register your car (evs only) for 5 years $200totAl. Or next year it will be like any other car and cost over $1k per year.

Pros = Best EV, good resell value, tax credit, cool car, no more gas, fit and finess is improving, prices going up means more equity. Cons = Long wait times, becoming more common, rising msrp, 4680 not implemented yet, model y in Fremont has no front structural change yet, needs more color options.

Ben: I took delivery of my Model Y Long Range December 2020. The Federal Tax Credit was $0.00 because Tesla sold more vehicles and the tax credit was eliminated, as well as there is usually a dollar cap on the purchase price which excluded the Model Y long range. The Tax Credit wasn’t in my decision process. I love the Model Y.

Although surprised you didn’t talk about gas prices or that most Tesla models won’t even be delivered until next summer so even if you put a deposit down now you are almost guaranteed to get the new stuff Elon has promised. I put a deposit down for a MY two weeks ago, and I’m almost tempted to put one down for a M3 as well so that I can resell that one for more. We’ll see!

I agree with all your points except for the one about the extra range which you will get with the Model Y with the 4680 cells. Especially since that should already happen in 2022, it's worth waiting a few more months for it, in my opinion. Too bad it's only happening for MY though...

Tesla will not be excluded from the new POS EV rebate program. It has lifted all post restrictions after 1/1/2022. Only problem with it is Plug in hybrids will get a bigger rebate if there union made over pure Evs that are not union made.

in March, I was looking at a couple of Model 3 LR with FSD for $40,000 (with around 30,000 miles). Now similar models are $58,000. I will lose the depreciation game if I stay with Tesla, so it doesn't make sense at all to buy now. If the EV tax credit is available, then that will hurt resale values a lot. Once the Berlin and Texas factories open, that will help with demand, too. Once the cargo backup issue is fixed, that will reduce costs and waiting times for parts. I'm ready to buy a car Q1 next year and I waited 3 years to buy a Tesla, but it won't be a Tesla, unfortunately.

You know, waiting for a 400 mile range, a true 400 range, is a great goal but don’t hold your breath. I was going to wait and then I realized it was totally unnecessary. I charge at home 95% of the time. Who cares if you can go 275 or 375 miles? With the Supercharger network layout it just really doesn’t matter,at least to the vast majority it doesn’t. A more efficient battery would be nice but the newest 4680 battery is just a single step along the EV evolution ladder. When it’s time to replace my Y there might be something even better out there. I agree, if you can swing the price and wait times, now is the time to pull the trigger.

Extra range would be nice for towing. I take my Jetski on an 1100 mile (each way) trip at least once a year. Towing reduces range.

Range matters and more range is needed for a lot of people. I have owned a 3 and now an X. The SC Network still needs to be expanded to more convenient locations. On my LR Model X with Highway Driving, the max miles is 240-270 and that creates issues, depending on where you are going. It’s not like a gas station on every corner, yet.

Pulled the trigger at the weekend on a LR model 3, had been waiting for the Y in Europe but in the end didn’t think the extra 6k was worth it for the hatch and and less range. Dodged a bullet, the next day the price went up £1500

i placed my order for my MYLR in late September (before the October price hikes) and i was hedging a bet that the EV tax bill will go through and that Tesla would become eligible again. Even without that happening we'll still buy it and see how we like it. The worst case scenario we sell the newly purchased Tesla without losing much money, possibly making money on it due to the high demand.

I have had my Model 3 order in since just before the base SR+ price went above $40k. It was supposed to be March, then June, now December (although I plan to swap to an inventory vehicle to get a LFP battery even if it means postponing delivery to 2022). If you are okay with the NCA battery they may bump you to the end of 2021.

I believe Tesla is included in the new bill and the bill is supposed to go in to effect on January 1, 2022. So those of us who have a delivery date in December (mine is 12/22-12/31)-should we wait and potentially get a $8,000 tax credit? It’s a tough one.

I think it’s regarding when you get it. And not when you place an order. Right now, all Tesla orders are to be made near 6-10 months in to the future. Meaning if you placed your order now, you will still get the Tesla during the period on which the deal will be active

I’m in Australia. I only started to hunt for a Tesla and I will buy a Tesla. However the ETA for Tesla Model 3 and Y will change from the 2170 to the 4680 battery cell is March-April 2022. From this fact alone I can live without a Tesla for a little while longer. Autopilot / full self driving? Is useful for those you drive more than the average person. I drive 85km one way so that’s 170km per day in Miles that’s 105 miles. Autopilot will benefit me because I can have a much more relaxing drive home and quite potentially do other things like chat with a mate or do my stocktake or check my emails. 4680 battery cell will have a explosion is my major concern. I have this nagging feeling it will be in demand similar to the chip shortage. Everyone that is powered with a normal AAA battery to buses and solar power stations…. I fear the demand will be extremely high so I want to get my Tesla with a 4680 battery cell as soon as possible before everyone is the world places their orders for one
