The right answer is "because at Motley Fool, we sell you information and stock picking is our business"

Exactly! Warren Buffet and Bogle agree that index investing is for most people But this dude seems to know more than those great men

So he doesn’t trust the wisdom of Bogle? Well the greatest of them all; Warren Buffet says most of us should own the S&P and forget the rest

The only thing you learn by investing in single stocks is that you should have invested in index funds long ago

"People in the top quintile are seeing great returns." Yeah no shit they're; they're the top quintile. The other 80% is wishing they just shelfed their money into an index.

If you really want to buy individual stocks look at a S&P 500 index with a good long term track record and buy the top holdings. Adjust (sell) if they are ever removed and put the funds in the new top holdings... The experts have already identified the winners in the fund. I've done this into Apple, Microsoft and Google recently after the split with no regrets

Perhaps the best option for those who lack the skill to beat the market is a good actively managed mutual fund.

Yes paying high fees for not beating the market. ?

Plutonius X Agreed💯 the investor puts the money up and assumes ALL the risk. The "expert" manager places trades with YOUR money and earns an annual commission (regardless if the market is bullish, or bearish) off the investors money...crazy!
