Artist. You're the only youtuber I know that fully leans into the sci-fi theme... even "just" for a review or contemplation on gear. Love your style man. You know lenses, light, filtration, grading, SOUND (people don't use this enough). Cheers! Love watching this kind of content. Make Art Now and Andreas Hem are also creative like this. This video was one of several which inspired me to pick up a used A7S Mark I with a 1800 shutter count. Since owning it, I've been stunned by how much better in low light and how much sharper it is than my Canon 5Dii and EOS M (which are my only two other cameras) I even used the A7S on a paid job filming a musician's album launch concert, and I can say the A7S blew the 5D out of the water!

I did hear you talk about the A7 and the Canon 5D cameras in the past but never expected you to still use the A7S to this day. I love my A7SIII. It still is capable for good enough photos for online use. That said I still gravitate towards my A7III to make sure I have an "everlasting" set of footage. Once again GX, blowing away my expectations as a photographer and proving that the tools don't make the shooter. It's the person behind the camera.

Fantastic video. I love your style as always and the "sponsorship" was really fun. You made me want to take a closer look at the a7s as part of my kit alongside my a6500 and x100f. A couple weeks ago as I was taking Christmas portraits of my daughter with a vintage Ricoh 55mm f1.4, I was thinking about how a bigger sensor would help me to better deal with background distractions. And since I wanted a candlelight look, the a7s would have fit the bill well. That said, my daughter isn't quite 2 and it is tough to keep her still for a well-focused manual shot, so autofocus was also on my mind...maybe I decide what I want to do by 2045.

Well, that was fun. I mean it. The dystopian look was a bit of a shock at first, but then really cool. What a unique and interesting way to produce a review video. The serendipity is that I've been shopping for an A7S (first model) for about a month, trying to find a decent buy. I have a ton of vintage glass in my collection (especially my Konica collection, but a lot of Nikkors and odd instances like some Russian glass) that was fun to shoot on a Nex-5N. I couldn't justify an A7S when they came out, but I can go for one at current prices. And... you are right on the mark about resolution and cameras. My favorite cameras, the Fuji XT-1 and the X-H1, have plenty of resolution and decent high-ISO performance. But even my old D300 still produces solid images (if I'm in the mood to lug something heavy). I miss my Sony Nex-5N with the EVF. I rarely used any of the E-Mount lenses, shooting mostly adapted vintage glass. I came away with many interesting captures during that period, partly because the little camera was so handy and partly because of the look of vintage glass. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement to find myself an A7S.

Hey man, i absolutly love the style of your photography and the aesthetics of this channel. That Blade Runner-esque opening shot over the city was really something. I can honestly say, im just as excited to see a new video posted here than i am for the next episode on my favourite shows. One thing i want to say on the video topic: Having a small, lightweight, video-capable mirrorless full-frame camera was always fascinating to me. So when sony released the A7C, i was super excited for it, but honestly i feel the main problem with this kind of setup is not the size of the camera body, its the size of those large full frame lenses that negate the advantage of having a small and compact camera. Anyways, superb content. Ill be sure to give those lightroom presets a look.

Dope video as always! As a FP owner I would be itnerested to see what you think after using it. It is SO small and yeah there some limitation but being able to shoot 12 bit cinema DNG in 1080 24fps to an SD card is what makes me love it.

I would definitely love to try it out, but the lack of a tilting screen and an EVF would make it a bit hard for me to use as a photo camera, but I could definitely see myself using it for video (though I also still would wish that the screen tilted)

@@GxAce yeah it can pose some interesting issues for sure.

Totally agree, I recently upgraded to the a7s3 for my thesis film, but from time to time I still miss using my original a7s.

I can never get over how amazing your videos are, man. The effort really fucking shows. I'm trying to chase this aesthetic right now, but goddamn is it harder than I thought. Keep it up, man!

coolest reviews on youtube, seriously. I would also mention that the original a7 are pretty good looking, with its simple lines and piano black finish. It's a pitty they have been making it bulkier and totally messing up the shape. If they 'd continued refining the design instead of putting steroyds now we would have an a7iv kinda close to a leica sl

buying an a7s in 2021 after watching this video makes me feel im the chosen one :)

The zeiss 55mm f1. 8 only weighs 281g (10oz). It does sacrifice some sharpness for the sake of being smaller. The weight it DOES have is due to being almost all metal in its construction, which makes it a tough little lens. My Helios 44-2 weighs only 50g less than the zeiss.

so what about x-t3 though? I remember you were saying that you don't need FF because of that cam :/

You don't! hahah Full frame is definitely not something you need, but cameras are just fun in general. :)

@@GxAce oh, I see :) I was just thinking about a7s as good platform for my helios lens, so maybe might give it a try

Love the part about the obsolescence: The fact that most of the pictures clicked today on phones is 12MP proves that the image quality is good enough for a large percentage of the population. I had the original A7 and the size difference is very apparent. Love the bigger battery units on the latest gen A7 bodies though

It’s something that I don’t feel people think about too often, but it’s really hard to get a bad camera these days

Stupid question: how could I put a soft release button on an A7 like in this video without destroying anything? I'm planning to buy one and customise it to make it look closer to a vintage camera (which in a sense it is lol)😮
