Honestly I used Amazon during the COVID-19 crisis but now it’s like Nicole said “ when you put things in your cart and wait awhile you forget the urgency of wanting to have it.” I don’t have a membership. However because I’m disabled and cannot drive, I found the convenience handy, and used their ‘30 day free trail offer’ (only when the moon was blue)but I do use it sparingly and shop around in my area and shops that offer delivery. After COVID-19 they do! I would much rather give a local store $10.00 than Amazon.

I'm keeping Prime. I've cancelled it twice, and came back twice. People talk about buying locally, and I do that when I can. Then people talk about driving around to buy what I'm looking for. I don't drive. I don't own a car. I've been bicycling as my main transportation for over 40 years. I'm not riding all over town to find an item. I work 6 days/60 hours a week. I'm not waisting my time looking all over the place. I can't ride and buy three months worth of paper towels and get them home on my bike. It's a convenience tax, and I'm willing to pay it.

There's going to be exceptions, but there are a number of people who don't need the membership and may just be uninformed. If you ride your bike everywhere you probably live in or near a city, right? You may be close enough to just pick up smaller items, but not having a car is the real reason for this exception. Plenty of people own cars and live in the suburbs just 5 mins away from most major stores. Also, there are carts and ways to add storage to your bike. You could use free shipping for the larger items. Just my 2 cents.

There's usually a month per year where we order a bunch of stuff in a short period. So we pay for Prime, and _instantly_ cancel it. It lasts for the 30 days, and we just get all the free shipping, without accidentally forgetting to cancel it. Works well for us.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO! My Prime membership was up for renewal in early Feb at $139.00 USD per year. I did not and will not renew - EVER. I can get everything I need from local stores or other online, LEGIT merchants. The last few items I purchased via Amazon were not the real thing but cheap knock-offs. Just one example: in January, I bought PowerStep insoles from Amazon. The ones they shipped were NOT authentic - not even close. I returned them and at that point made the decision to never pay for a Prime membership again. THANK YOU for this video - you are right on the money!

I pay yearly. I think it's $139. And I don't have commercials in my movies. I think you got that part wrong. Amazon doesn't put commercials in movies. That's Freevie or Tubie or something where you can pay extra not to see the commercials. I would just say if you want to rent movies sometimes, Amazon is a good option. They have nearly anything you can think of and you can be watching it in seconds at any time you feel like it. Otherwise you are driving to the RedBox and making a very limited choice that you then have to return.

I've had Amazon Prime for close to 20 years but I cancelled it when you spoke about it in previous videos. You pointed out how much it's turned into the "Amazing new stuff, very great stuff, veritable super stuff, prime cool stuff, make you feel more gooder stuff, stuff for make you happy, stuff" store. Your videos have pointed out how everyone (governments, businesses, nearly all social media channels (including yours), and many people in real life are trying to get your money or sell you shit to get your money. Everything is advertising or a scam and very few things have value. In fact, now I'm just journaling here..., you might consider making a video or series of videos about the few things in life that aren't actually scams and have true value. I disagree. I buy all sorts of daily items on Amazon from dog food to my oatmeal. It’s gotten to the point where if I can wait two days for something, drop it off at my house tyvm. It saves me s lot of time, the cost of driving, and the aggravation of the store. The cost is often comparable and the convenience unbeatable. It frees up my most important resource, time. I can either earn $100+ an hour working or do something I’d rather be doing than errands. Their algorithm is not good enough that I mindlessly scroll the way I would social media. Let’s not forget: The sales on Prime Days are often a big scam - I’ve seen items marked up to way more than it usually is, just so they can “mark it down” for the same amount. That way you THINK it’s on sale if you have no idea what it usually costs. I watched a video where someone took screenshots of their wishlist, only to see this happen to most of the items they were hoping to purchase for less.

It’s been eye-opening when I see something I’d recently ordered, and then it was on a Prime Day sale or a lightning deal a few days later. Multiple times, it’s cost the same or more when it’s a “deal.” Often, it’s because the regular price has a coupon, but the deal price removes the coupon and then gives a percentage off the regular price. So when they compare to the regular price, it looks like a big discount, but they’re not telling you that on a normal day, there’s like a $40 off coupon. What a scam.

I came to the same conclusions about Prime. Not sure what I'm getting for the $14.99/month or $129/year, since all orders over $35 have free shipping anyway. What really bugs me is the way you're placed on autorenew by default, and you literally have to go through multiple screens to cancel or "pause" your subscription to avoid it. Their autorenew does not notify you when your subscription is up; it just goes down the list of every form of payment you have until it finds one that will go through. I felt like I was getting financially raped.

I didn't know notifications were an option. But the fact that it's off by default is part of that rapist mentality that seems to be the modern business model. I find those worth my time and money too.

While I canceled my Prime membership years ago, I still used Amazon for countless items. I made sure to buy *needed* items so I could get free shipping. It didn’t matter that the delivery date was 4 days away. I’m normally not that desperate for anything unless it’s produce (grocery store for that). Last week was the final straw though. Amazon dropped off my package at a door I didn’t recognize in the photo and I walked around looking for it but gave up. A lady walking her dog stopped by the next morning with my package. I canceled Amazon completely that Monday. I also noticed that jumping on Amazon was becoming a habit that I wanted to break, so all is good and I have zero regrets canceling Amazon. I know for a fact that some people need it for convenience like those who may be homebound, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all issue. I can go without it.

my mom is a disabled senior and loves Walmart groceries which annoys me to no end. But it's kind of funny, I go to Walmart 2-3 times per month for her and as for my household personally we only buy like 5 items there in a year and a total of MAYBE $30 of our shopping is spent at Walmart. I haven't shopped there regularly since 1999.

Having to DISAGREE. Been with Amazon Prime for 10+ years. Being a senior I pay $6.99 monthly for free shipping and movies. What I like when I do buy is SELECTION AND CONVENIENCE. Do you need a shirt in powder blue, size 3X (they have it) I need my monthly grocery staples (they have it) ETC. All at prices that are the same if not cheaper than local stores. Most of the orders arrive in 24 hours. Also i use the Amazon credit card and get 5%-6% back on every purchase. (make sure you pay it off monthly) Returns ? print out a shipping label, go down to my local UPS store and DROP it off. It's a win-win for me.

Nicole, I work for Amazon in a warehouse. We work normal hours and take normal breaks, just like any other job. At Christmas time we do have overtime hours, just like other retail facilities, but we receive overtime pay for that six week period. No one has to piss in bottles. If you are a delivery driver whose route is a completely residential area, there are no public restrooms. The driver will have to deviate from the route to find a restroom or think of another way to pee. Just kinda tired of the rumors about working for Amazon, sigh…

I have heard a lot of horror stories from people in my regional area, mostly a few years ago (pre-COVID). But they were all bussed from rural areas into the city with an Amazon warehouse. They were told to buy 3 pairs of sneakers and rotate through them to avoid wearing them out or hurting their feet. So weird to me. I did hear they made perfectly normal wages and worked pretty regular hours but then they were laid off en masse around 2019.

We do shop on Amazon, we live in a very rural area (closest Wal-Mart is 45 mins away, same for Home Depot/Lowes) and would spend so much time and gas driving around that we have to choose which evil to support. The time is our biggest issue; spend it in a car or doing something we enjoy. We, however, do not need Prime. We watch next to nothing on the streaming service and can easily wait for $35 spends on our orders.

I always love watching them and your no-nonsense delivery. It’s so refreshing to hear your honest descriptions of things. As a fellow Canadian (but currently trapped in the bowels of Texas) it makes me long to return to Canada and my roots. But as you highlighted in another video houses are too overpriced for me to want to buy there. By the way, my dad served in the Canadian army. He went to Canada to join the army in 1939 to fight the NAZIs. He served over 7 years in the Canadian army so he was there for the duration of the war. My uncle was in the Canadian navy and my grandad was in the English army during WWI. I loved hearing about their service. All the best Nicole and keep up the fantastic work!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I'm actually only paying $6.99 per month for Amazon Prime but that's because I don't have health insurance. Not really a good thing, I know, but regardless of whether I'm paying $6.99 or the regular price, I still find it useful because I don't own a car and walking out here in the Arizona suburbs sucks! Not only is everything spread out but it's super hot out here. You get all hot and stinky within 6 minutes of walking. It would take me nearly 3 hours just to walk to Wal-Mart, shop, and then walk back home. I'd rather pay a business to bring my stuff to me than spend that much time walking. Time is the key benefit in this for me. I'd rather use that time reading a book or gettting home chores done. In fact I do so much of my shopping online these days to avoid visiting shops. Why? Because people are quite unpleasant to deal with at grocery stores. We're all packed in like sardines in aisles and so many people throw temper tantrums these days over petty inconveniences that they deal with. Then you got the child-like mentality of some people fighting over a parking spot in the parking lot. I can avoid all that crap by simply ordering things online. I'm willing to pay more to avoid the circus performance that people throw on the road while driving and at shops. I find myself less stressed out these days because I avoid this. Look, I get that avoiding people isn't a healthy thing to do but as the Joker asked: "Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?" I get that not everyone is awful but times sure are changing, especially in my city. It's why I intend to move out into the country side. Even the suburbs are filled with crazies here and there.

There are no 'good' options out there for the most part if you use Amazon for business like I do. If a customer needs a part for instance, I can hop on Amazon and have the part delivered 'same day' or 'next day' in many cases. All of the brick and mortar part suppliers in my region are gone. Even if I find the part cheaper at another company the customer generally doesn't want to wait for standard shipping of five to seven days on many sites and any returns are generally arduous. I make more orders on Amazon yearly than there are days in the year, because I will order many times a day sometimes for customers and yes many of those transactions are under the free shipping limit. An example I bought an XLR cable for ten dollars including shipping, which ironically arrived right as I started watching your video. A local music store wanted fifty-dollars for the same XLR cable, which is insane even if I wanted to support their local business. I do appreciate your video for the average home consumer though.

Today, after watching this, I finally went ahead and canceled my Amazon Prime, so my Prime membership will continue until the next expiration date, but will not renew again.

I am not sure, the returned items go to a landfill. I recently ordered Revlon paraffin bath, and received cracked bath with melted wax inside and some missing parts. It came from Amazon as a new item. Of course, they returned my money, when I called. And I was the one, who had to send it to a landfill

In my area we have a ton of Amazon return stores - in most cases they have all the random stuff in giant bins for a set price that changes throughout the week, starting at 10 bucks and then if you go on 99 cent day it's literally just broken plastic and boxes of food with 2 weeks left before it expires. Pretty gross but preferable to landfills.

But... but... I haven't been to a physical store in so long that I forgot how to! 😳

I actually want to get rid of our amazon prime account. I will move things to my cart , then move them to "save for later" so I'm not buying crap I don't need, or at least things I don't need immediately or in the near future. I do share the account though with my in-laws and they also use the prime video streaming. so since multiple people are using the 1 account, I don't mind keeping it I suppose. I am going to share this video in hopes they will change their minds. There have been times I needed specific vitamins that either CVS or Walmart either didn't have in stock, or it was way cheaper on amazon for the same thing, but in reality most of the time the opposite is true and it's not cheaper on Amazon. Thanks again for another great video.

I have never had Amazon Prime. But I do buy things on Amazon and will continue to. Why? Because the things I buy from them are not available anymore in the stores around me. I used to buy the stuff in the stores but the stores stopped carrying it.

My b/f uses specialized electronic equipment and trying to locate the dozens of connectors and other items is impossible locally. Most of these stores either don't carry it or have gone out of business. So Amazon fills that void. Also, many of the online stores either don't stock it or just do not carry it due to low sales. His orders are hundreds of dollars each, so free shipping, and when he is onsite, ships the products there. Just my take on Chrome Domes empire.

Companies like amazon are killing the highstreet here in the UK. Don't be lazy folks, get off line and go to the shops 👍
