@@Lonqudor One thing that makes the hoovy disguise more convincing is binding your mouse scroll to switch between all 3 weapons. Can't tell you how many times in casual and low-level Highlander I got away with my acting. fun to b-hop and rapidly swap weapons. Helps disguise the fact that your GRU doesn't boost you! ;P And you're right about the Spy. Either you control the games as Spy, or it controls YOU. Deaths don't matter. Teleports and medics win games and being a strategic, sneaky bastard and learning timing makes you extremely effective, no matter the level of players you're against. Every team makes a mistake. Every team has at least 1/3 of the players as the lower eschelon you can pick or mess with or induce paranoia. Find that 1/3 and do everything you know to mess with their heads. Good examples are: 1. Ambassador headshot low hp classes - this signals to the enemy that you're not to be trifled with. 2. Pick the Pyro. Same reason as before. 3. Teleports, Snipers and Demos are good knife picks. Low HP Scouts, Engies, Soldiers and Pyros are great Ambassador picks. You don't have to be a MGE expert. Just be an opportunistic a-hole. ;)

@@Lonqudor Also, kind of a flex here... before jungle inferno I was basically 'unkillable' in pubs using the DR, kunai or spycicle and Ambassador. I learned from stabbystabby videos, then learned gunspy aftewards, and focused on how to manage me cloak meter for DR and Invis. Knowing those timings are essential to staying alive. Positioning is great, too, but I always counted in my head how many seconds cloak I had left so I could focus on escape routes. Also, also.... get your stabs down to 100% reflex. Then you won't have to focus on them. Actually, don't focus on them at all. (Eventually, you can ) Train yourself to barely have to watch the animation and you can pretty much do it w/o looking most of the time. Comes in handy when understabbing scouts and soldiers.

There was this one match where this pyro was dominating me almost every time I decloak. I don't know where he comes from, and he makes playing spy impossible. Then I see this small chain of players rushing to the flank of the frontline, and I chose to use the Heavy Disguise in hopes to blend in. when I was starting to walk my way to their backs, I felt a bump from behind me, and it was the exact same Pyro, I knew I was dead as dirt. But then he went around me, and out of fear and instinct I backstabbed him and got my Revenge, I was so surprised that I almost didn't get away intime. I've been respecting this disguise ever since, even if I still don't use it often.

One extra detail Due to the rev time on the minigun, heavy's spend a lot of time not shooting while repositioning, so you can be near a fire fight taking no pot shots *without* raising any suspicion.

I think you could do the same by just going as an actual Heavy, though. Like, the reason pretending to be a hoovy is "effective" is because playing a hoovy is the equivalent of going "time out! I'm not playing the same game!!" and hoping they respect it. It's kind of a dick move to mess with that trust, and when it works, it says more about the victim being good-natured than the fake hoovy being clever. And if there's one thing TF2's community doesn't need, it's more reasons to not be good-natured. XD

Having a faster disguise (scout, medic, etc.) bound to a key is very helpful for when you've fooled someone with your heavy disguise but still need to catch up with them. It doesn't require you to swing your knife to drop your disguise and also keeps sentries from targeting you.

A very good while ago I played a spy in TwoFort. I was very low on health so I decided to disguise as a heavy in front of briefcase, acting like I was watching over it. I got some grief by someone else on our team but when they captured the case I followed (not sure if the speed debuff was a thing back then) and got 2 easy backstabs, allowing the case carrier to run a bit farther. I believe but am not certain we got a point there as I recall they finally stopped the case carrier right in front of our base.

Don't tell anyone but disguising as a same team heavy while pushing the cart is a genius way to scare off any lone enemies that might try to shoot you. A random scout or pyro will likely run away if you and someone else are pushing the cart.

Nah, I just don't buy into this logic. The number one thing a decent Heavy is doing all game is revving constantly. So many players jump rev just for the hell of it. A lot of Heavies when rolling out long distances will just have their fists out and punching the air all the time. Heavy disguises are painfully obvious because no decent heavy is idle for more than 2 seconds at a time. Also none of the clips you provided leant any support to the disguise being good. Nearly every clip was on enemies that didn't even recognise you were there to begin with (making your choice of disguise irrelevant), with the exception of one clip against the Heavy you were disguised as lol. I agree that medic's do lose their Spy awareness a bit around power classes, but that's more of a case for Soldier and Demo being stronger disguises over Heavy. Genuinely don't think there is a single fringe case in the game where I'd ever pick a Heavy disguise over literally any other. If it works, I can guarantee any other disguise would have worked too and not nerfed your move speed (which baring mind also limits your backstab window heavily).

Something I forgot to talk about is that Heavy disguises are great "mix-up" disguises too. It's a great disguise to use maybe a couple of times once the enemy has caught on to your preferred disguise. I think discrediting the clips demonstrating these points is a bit bias though. I remember the games well, they recognised I was there, but had no inkling I was a Spy because "who on earth would disguise as a Heavy?" These clips featured a mix of Uncletopia and Casual servers. I was not just playing against oblivious players, and I got caught many a time when I was out of place. And yeah, I agree as well, the boons of the Heavy disguise are Not unique to it. Other disguises feature these as well. But the sheer surprise factor of the Heavy disguise is what makes it so strong in my eyes. The best disguise? No, there isn't one. A great disguise? Yes, but only when used sparingly. Thank you for your comment on the matter, I really enjoy having discussions along these lines.

@@Tann3rr The reason people use the scout disguise is almost purely so they don't lose any movement speed as every other disguise other than the medic causes Spy to lose some movement speed which can make the difference between getting a stab and being caught. The reason people don't use Medic instead of Scout is due to how medic disguises are harder to pull off in a pinch since med is usually with his team 24/7 compared to Scout who is more likely to break off from their team and thus can be "anywhere"

i feel like the main downside to this is that people just, dont play heavy so you look much more suspicious being full stock, theres also the problem where when there IS a heavy, they are normally on the point, making a big impact with loud noises and bright flashes with the tean olaying around them making it harder to convince them as they will obviously know that the unrevved heavy next to the currently shooting heavy makes it obvious you are a spy.

Ah yes, the hipster effect. Since no one does it, it goes against the normalcy of things, hence no one expects you to go heavy as a disguise. I feel like instead of the cloak giving a damage resist it should be the disguise kit. And depending on which class your disguised as the resistence is greater, heavy naturally having the greatest damage resist. Would give the disguise an actual practical use in exchange for it being SOOOOO SLOOOOW.
