Totally agree 200% with your title. That's why the Cut page is so amazing. I might use 3 video tracks at the most far B-Roll & Graphic. Now Audio tracks, are a different story. I can go up to 5-7 tracks when it comes to sound Designing on different projects. Keep up the good work on explaining the art of editing.

I generall can understand and even agree with the Thesis to an extent. However, when I work with sequences I would rather sync the visuals on multiple tracks, find the development of shots and then cut what I dont want (doing this in the timeline rather then the media bin). To clairify, I do use 3 point editing for finding the i/o point of a scene, but I prefer having the shots all on the timeline when dialing in my i/o on a clip to clip basis. This comes in handy when switching camera angles if its just not worth using a multicam clip. This video did challenge me to rethink my timeline organization though, spcifically just reducing to 1 or 2 tracks and just eliminating from the timeline what I am not actually using. Also giving multiple layers of space for each single layer you use for something can be a lifesaver when making revisions for a client. Just like writing out an essay in double space so you have space to add changes. Thanks!

Thank you! sometimes I work in the same way as well, for example when I edit music performances that have 5 or more video feeds. When projects are long though, say a feature doc, I try to keep the project as clean as possible. I’m glad the content was useful! It’s great to hear feedback from other editors.

Great video. The one big frustration I have with Resolve when it comes to using two different track for A and B roll is when it comes to transitions. Resolve doesn't react the same way as Avid does when you add a transitoion to a clip on V2. (Basically, it messes up the transition, and the only way to get it working right is to bring the B roll back down to V1.)
@cromostudio
@cromostudio 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I haven’t had problems with transitions in DaVinci actually- not that ai use them much. Can you tell me more about how it messes them up? I’d like to try
@rowalong
@rowalong 3 ай бұрын
@@cromostudio Thanks for the reply. I've just tried, and I think they've improved things for v19 . Certainly all of the standard push / wipes in the transitions work ok now on V2. But a lot of my third party transitions (I like using fast whip pans) will only get through the first half of the transition (on V2) and then when the V2 clip ends, so does the transition. Like I said, it's better, not all of them are doing it now. So at least posting this comment has made me examine this again!!

Excellent video. The only point I’d add is, if you map P to “append to end”, You can press, I to place an In point, O to place out point, then P to go ahead and drop it onto the timeline without having to drag it to the right viewer. Easy peasy!

Some very useful tips especially the setting of IN and OUT in the clip an then adding to the timeline. I would add the "replace function" [F11] as a very useful. If you have a video preset or just make similar videos often you can just replace the clip in the timeline and add the new one with alle the effects, transitions and so on.

Sometimes you're blending multiple shots into one frame which is when you'd want to use multiple tracks, or if you're using blend modes for other footage/media you'd use multiple tracks.

@cromostudio Yes exactly. You really missed the mark on this major thing. My first test edit as i switch to DaVinci Resolve as a program is a very easy video but it needs to have 2 video tracks at once because I'm editing a reaction video with both my face and the video I'm reacting to on screen at once as i edit. It's kinda like multicam editing which DaVinci has built in sync features for that i haven't fully figured out but it is a little different.
@cromostudio
@cromostudio 2 ай бұрын
My next video is about multicam if you’re interested. As for mixing videos, what I meant is to not use more than one video track for the content that is not visible, but yours is a different case as you’re showing both videos. Still, in my editing career there haven’t bern many occasions to do split screens or video fusions, so I tend to consider it as an exemption.

Honestly tho, what ever makes you more creative, if you need 10 tracks then please use 10 tracks, not every style of video can be edited in this manner, example music videos. the advice I give everyone I teach how to edit is... find your workflow and make it work for you.

You can use the multiclip feature. You place an In in both clips (video and audio), then right click, select create multiclip and select the In point as sync point. Alternatively you can modify the clip by adding new track in the Media tab , although I don’t recall the process at the moment

Well, that's an outdated way of thinking. Simplicity is not always effective. There are many reasons why you might stack video tracks. I don't find it confusing or imprecise at all to work like that. I've been doing it for years and have never had any problems with it! Stop posting such stupid general statements and pretending you know everything better! Everyone is different and has different ways of working!
@cromostudio
@cromostudio 3 ай бұрын
I never said the other way is stupid. If you’re fine with it then keep doing it. This video is for people who are starting - for example my students in my many master programs in universities - and I find it very effective with people who never edited. Please keep a constructive tone as this approach is not appreciated at all by me.
@mylivetubetv

@@gregormarini How is what you wrote helpful to anyone other than your own ego? I also use video stacks and agree with your thinking though your way of communicating is quite unnecessary.
