For anyone considering getting a Golden Retriever, if you're looking at the negatives that are sometimes alluded to, I assure you that their positives outweigh these negatives, to an exponential level. In fact, if you listed every single bad trait that any canine has, or has had throughout history, the positives still more than cancel out the negatives. Basically what I'm trying to say is, their positives are so overwhelming high that there simply aren't enough negatives to overcome them. They're the greatest pets in the multiverse, and everyone should own at least two.

I'd love to see a video on Labradors that also explains the difference between the show lines and the field lines.

Labradors in show lines are generally calmer, less athletic, and usually fit the Labrador standard for appearance. Field line Labs require a LOT more room for daily running than most folks have. So if you aren't athletic, you do NOT want a field line dog. English Labs were bred to be happy mostly at your fireside. We have one, almost 3, and after a 1 mile walk, he's usually happy for a long nap. Generally, they act like old dogs. The big challenge is keeping them from eating EVERYTHING EDIBLE. English Labs are about 100 years old as a line.

I come across people who argue that my service dog, which is a field line lab, is not a pure bred lab all because he doesn't look like a show line lab.

Just a warning, since they are purebred many many generations back they are prone to illnesses and diseases. My golden retriever was healthy as a buck near a deer feeder, but he came down with Lymphoma at the age of five and passed soon after, as it spread. They are great dogs though for any purpose, whether it be to keep you company while your at home, or hunting!

That’s the next breed I’ll be getting some day. Lost my Yellow Lab 1yr ago, we still have our beautiful Bi-color German Shepherd, she’s 10, and wasn’t supposed to live past 9. At this age with her condition (born with no hip sockets), I don’t think it’s fair to her, if I was to get a pup right now. In the future, some day though. Beautiful pup❤️🐾

Goldens are among the SHORTEST LIVED DOGS. The breed was started with a very small genepool, and GENERALLY DIE OF CANCER. If you want a golden, consider getting a cross breed for greater resiatance against cancer. OR Find a breeder who has DNA tests from the U of Cal. AT Davis.

There’s a difference between aggressive and over-exuberant. I’ve never seen aggression at all in a golden, not once. But I’ve seen them jump on people, knock them down, basically maul them being overly excited. They are big, energetic and do need to be trained.

Bro he's not lying one bit. I have a 6 month old golden retriever and seriously every bone in her body just wants to please us. I've seen a lot of dogs in my life. Never have a met a dog so good with kids. She snuggles them, follows them around, plays with them, not a growl, not an uncomfortable face ever! She just loves it all, I have very young kids so they are still learning how to correctly act around animals, even when they get rowdy she handles it great. I highly recommend for a family dog.

Yeah... Tell that my golden retriever, she is scared when the water is to deep for her to stand. And if there are waves, its game over. We we're wandering through the watt when it was ebb and we came back when it was flood, so she had to swim.... The scratches all over my body still hurt when i think about that.

Not so much my sister's golden retriever, he's so lazy, a game of fetch turns into a stagnant game of catch. And that's when he's in the mood for it. If you have to ask he's perfectly naturally and healthy at least a couple pounds above average.

Just remember they still need exercise and to be socialized. Although they are less prone to reactivity then some dogs, they can still turn reactive,if not given the proper care, any dog can. So please make sure before you get a dog that you can provide proper care. Your fur baby is your literal child, if you wouldn't leave you two year old alone for 2 hours please don't leave your 6 month old puppy. And always make sure that you're getting the right dog for you and your family! Edit: there's a war in my comment section 👀 and no I'm not saying human and dogs are equal

A golden attacked my dog..so I don't trust them. Pitbulls on average score better than goldens on temperament test. ALL dogs can attack and need proper socialization. Not just pitbulls.

Every dog (and owner) needs proper training, even goldens. And there are very poorly bred goldens with health problems and bred aggression. I know… we had one and had to give her back to the breeder after 3 months because she was an absolute untrainable, unhealthy monster. 🫠

My parents tried to get us a golden a couple times, but the place was unwilling to help. We ended up with shelter dogs and a pure bred yellow lab that we rescued from hunger and if I went back in time I would choose them every time :) A golden would still be nice tho lol

Yeah Energy is the watch word. You keep them in good shape and their energy and puppy like nature never ends. I have a 5 year old male and a 2 year old female. I have my disabled brother watch them and they demand to go out 4 to 5 times a day for up to 2 hours at a time. They also go swimming almost every time they go outside which can lead to smelly yeast infections in their fur and once we even had a pair of hot spots on his cheeks. So keep them dry when not in the pool.

One of my friends had a golden lab, and for whatever reason, bro was *enormous.* Not like, fat, but like twice the size of a golden typically. Might've been a mix with a larger breed or something. But he *had* to sit in people's laps. They never broke him out of it when he was a puppy. I, of course, was fine with this. If I go out being suffocated by a 50 pound ball of fluff, then that's how I go out.
