I applaud you. I wish more people would stop caring about view counts because it’s pretty obvious when people care so much. It seems to affect their creativity. They paint themselves into a tiny little box of what they think will trend. We were so FREE back then not worrying how many people visited our personal Geocities websites. Who was thinking about SEO back then? Also, the videos and pics we took were for ourselves and our circle. We didn’t have in mind about sharing it all publicly so we weren’t afraid to experiment.

I have gotten into retro camcorders originally to convert tapes & I want to add some tips about Y2K camcorders. Prior to 2010s, the best type of camcorder used MiniDV cassettes, and before that, hi8 and digital8 cassettes (90s style) and those are honestly a bit of a headache to convert. The Sony DCR-SR/SX series and Canon HF x00 series in the 2010s were great for using hard drives and SD cards and still evoking retro vibes. So anyone wanting to get into Y2K camcorders w/ old school vibes, get standard quality 480p with internal HDD, flash memory, or SD card support. Happy shooting! 📹

You actually are the reason i started vlogging (it shows in my editing style), as someone who has always feared change and growing up i found that in some strange way vlogging has helped calm that fear. Really, such a great video! The simple yet effective way you present your thoughts is actually impressive. I personally don't see it much on social media now a days, maybe because, as you said, there is too much short term content, in which people feel the stress to share a lot of information just in a few seconds, and don't choose to make a longer video, where their ideas can be presented analytically and with less stress. I stopped using social media and deactivated all my accounts since last week. KZbin is good, I like to see it as replacement for TV. Instead of the company choose what you watch, I search for what I wanna watch. Still, I don't use the recommended videos, I just go straight to search bar searching for what I want to know. I love this, youtube contents have so many knowledge to learn about, not like short videos of anything trending that changing you to be a new animation character. I just found your channel, and before a few days ago I have never taken a big interest in photography / film, but I'm really looking to enrich my life and find a new way, besides writing, to document my life. I thought it was really interesting what you mentioned about short form content being made to entertain, because instagram / KZbin shorts desguises itself as a form of creating community, and when you seek to find community, the first urge is to open social media. When watching KZbin, I just love really connecting to a video, learning new things, and reading the comments of people, who in some way, seem to be going through the same thing. Scrolling on social media makes you feel like you are part of a community, because your feed is so altered through the algorithm, but all the information is too general to actually enrich your identity.

Love this, well done. Your footage will pop a little more if you make the exposure manual and bump it up a bit. Auto exposure almost always makes the bright window or sky the priority, at the expense of making everything else look a bit dark. Let the sky or window overexpose while everything else is nicely visible and I think you'll be pleased with the results. Something to experiment and have a bit of fun with.

I hope folks who are sitting on a tight budget and who own a smart phone do not get "fomo" because they don't own or have the means to own a "y2k camera". regardless of what medium, if you want to hold true to the ethos of what Katie is getting at, you should record your life with whatever hardware you have. it's never the camera, it's always the photographer and it goes the same for video. you do NOT need a quirky retro camera to hold true to the true meaning of what Katie is getting at in this video.

Camcoder is as same as polaroid, it's used as a way to capture nostalgia and moments.... May sound cliche but it feels soothing to see recording cames out from camcoder rather than seeing footage from your phone camera

I think I’ve always wanted to capture my life in any way possible, it’s so fun to look back on no matter what medium it’s in (video, pictures, drawings, or even journal entry’s) I personally just hate the idea of taking videos with my phone, it’s just so boring and no one ever wants to be filmed. A camcorder though…is more known for stuff like family memories and stuff like that. I grew up with camcorders. I recorded moments that most people wouldn’t have. Everyone got them out for birthdays, Christmases and vacations. But I would record regular life on occasion. Even today, although people record more snippets, they don’t record what their regular day looks like. Something your older self will want to see.

I don't have any interest in starting a vlog. But I do carry around a little Lumix TZ80, with a 30x zoom, which takes pretty good photos for its size. It has a video feature, which I do use occasionally, but it's not really meant for video. Anyway, I don't get why people think that phones will make compacts redundant. Does your phone have a 30x zoom? I don't think so! Anyway. I found this video informative and it was worth watching. You make a great point about creating your own sound and music. But also I think that people overuse music on social media way too much. I agree somewhat with your point about long form vs short form video. 🙂
