Yeah, a lot of the smaller game stores did not survive wotc'd reduced store support (in lieu of increased arena investment instead) and the C pandemic. Lucky for wotc, they can deflect/hide most of the blame to the pandemic.

Prereleases are awesome. But wotc, what we want is an effective arena economy, a real competitive scene, and a second printing of sets like TSR.

I would love to but in my area the MTG scene is being held hostage by a few unsavory stores. These stores either foster unfriendly atmospheres, charge almost double the MSRP on new magic products and/or offer very little in terms of prizes for any sort of event that is held. It's painful to be a part of the scene when you know your hosts are making money hand over fist and offering very little to their customer and player base. Example; new Kamigawa set booster, reasonably priced every where for about $105-115 give or take, or you can go to one my LGS's who meet allocation discounts and still charge about $150 for it. That's insane, and the real fun part is you're not even guaranteed a buy-a-box promo. The levels of greed are through the roof.

My Lgs still isn't holding in store events. They talked about bringing it back in the fall but then cases spiked and new variants happened. I'm begging to think that they aren't going to resort back to holding any events. Especially since they ditched the tables for more space to sell more merchandise.

Weaker variants that is closing the pandemic as its getting weaker and the death rate is less than .6% less than 1% people die now world wide. CDC and Media fearmonger and people's lives are being hurt by this. I suggest you talk to your LGS to reconsider and maybe continue to use mask and hand cleaners.

I miss live play. But the tournament scene and incentive to play is gone. Pair that with LGS's having to charge more so that they can make money on the new overpriced product and an inability to buy directly, and you have a game that's falling apart. I play commander a lot and have cards collected since the late 90s - and WotC is continuing to fail the players. I don't want Arena. I want more incentive to live play and well designed products that are available. *Cough cough time spiral remastered cough cough*

Ø555Ø Can anyone explain to me what is Prerelease from A to Z. Everything in detail. If I'm not mistake, you pay fee to play // participate prerelease game and you buy at least 1 prerelease kit? Then you play with other people until only got 1 winner? But since 1 prerelease kit doesn't have enough land, LGS give? or sell? land card? Please explain to me A to Z.

I basically stopped playing all Magic:tG once in-store events ended such as prereleases stopped. If/when they come back to my local game store (LGS), I'll definitely to come out to sling some cardboard again.

I was just watching the the professor, and I actually buy booster pack, I ask switch to paper booster pack wrappings, and use biodegradable and eco-friendly. I have been playing magic ever since I was 8. Needless to say I wasn't thinking about the cost. But now I pay more attention to the cost of things and the cost to our environment, wildlife and marine life. I've never been to a single MTG event. I want better product and if you switch over to biodegradable papper packs. First Pre-release I went to i was matched up with people who were treating it as I it was a Grand Prix. Left feeling discouraged. Probably will just stick with Arena.

That's either a poorly run store who doesn't enforce REL casual, or a store with a bad judge. Actually, I don't know if LGS had to have an official judge anymore, so you might not actually had a good qualified judge per say.

If you happen to run into a bunch of cutthroat wannabe PTQ-grinders who have never smiled in their life and bring an incredibly tense and unwelcoming atmosphere to the table, the judge can't help you to make the experience more fun.
