How often do you have to reapply the lubes?

I'm going to be building my first keeb (Mode Eighty hot swap). I have 4 different sets of switches to try out. Holy Pandas from Drop, tangies 67g, Silent Alpacas 67g, Aqua Zilents 62g. Would you lube all of these? And is the difference between Krytox 205g0 big compared to Tribosys 3204?
@juansebastiancastroechever37633 жыл бұрын
every type of switch can be lubed. it just depends on what lube you are using, what parts you are applying it to, and your technique. For holy pandas, I'd recommend trybosis3203 it's a slight bit thinner than 3204 but still gives the same results just saves the tactile feel. for alpacas, tangies, and Aquas use kryotox for sure.

My main reservations for lubing is that i haven't seen any videos comparing a lubed switch to a stock one after they have been in heavy use for a a few months, or a year or more. Seems like everyone is simply lubing their switches without worrying about this. I guess worst case you need to re-lube your switches every once in a while? If a saw some evidence that the lube will last i would be lubing some of my switches tomorrow.
@dxqx37944 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is always my question. Like it isn't much work per switch, but per keyboard that's a loooot of time. If it lasts a long time then it seems worth it, but if it's back to normal in a month I'd definitely be frustrated. I'd love to see a 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year comparison. Identical board, switches, and caps but with one lubed.
@3Dant4 жыл бұрын
@@dxqx3794 Not worth unless you've got a lot of time to kill or your switches feel particularly bad. I think most in the hobby do it just for fun. Or you might want to do it if you're one of those weirdos who listen to the sound their keyboards make ;)
@graysonneal69662 жыл бұрын
Lubing is worth it. Also, Krytox lubricant is for very small parts in industrial machinery. It gets much less wear on a keyboard, you should not ever have to re-lube your switches again.

That focusing was crazy all the video lol. What I can see is that people put more lube with krytox 205g0 and trybosys 3204 than the quantity they put with 205g0?

Its probably way too late if you haven't done anything but Vaseline will eat the plastic slowly, I hope you washed them haha, even hand soap would be good enough

Why is it bad to lube the legs on tactile switches?
@hectaifernandez2 жыл бұрын
Lubing the legs of a tactile switch will make the tactile bump less pronounced. It will basically make it feel like a linear switch.

uh... Do not follow this guide for how to lube. Too much lubricant was applied. Even tho he says less is more towards the end, he should be applying wayyy less than what was shown. Apply a thin and even coat on each of the sliders (legs too if you want it to be as smooth as possible, just know tactile feel will be slightly lowered if you do this on tactile switches, which is normal because it will feel smoother on the tactile bump). Visibility wise, the lubricant should be almost invisible after applied, and just the texture of the brush should be seen where you applied. If you can still visibly see the lubricant color there's too much and prepare to feel and hear some weird "wet" switches. If you applied too much at first, keep brushing it off until it's even, and apply excess to the next switch. If your brush has too much lube on it, scrape it back off on the lube container.

Is it just me or was his lube job pretty bad? He globbed it on, didn’t evenly coat, and skipped the leaf, and barely did anything to the spring. Yikes tbh
@RurouniKenshinShinta3 жыл бұрын
Think you adding too much lube. When i put that much lube on mine they fee like a downgrade to my current switch. For example if i lube red switches they will feel like black switches. If i lube browns switches, they wil feel like blue switches. Pushing them down gets tougher. And this is coming from someone who lubes A LOT less than you are showing here. I can only imagine how gross these must feel with the amount of lube you're applying. Yes you get the nice quiet, mushy sound but at the cost of slow responsiveness and tougher push down. Not by much but it is certainly there. I think the main purpose to lubing should be for quicker responsiveness and obvoiusly maintenance but if it's going to come at the cost of the smoothness of my key push, i rather not lube.
