Word of caution: Softer stem materials like POM when tub/bag lubed can get scratchy from hitting each other. I've been doing this for months now and noticed that switches with softer stems (such as KTT Kang White V3) tend to sound scratchier even after lubing. Tub lubing is a great time saver, but could cause more harm than good on the wrong stems.

I've been tub lubing for about 2 years and I don't lube the bottom anymore. It might not be as good as hand lubing everything but it is 1000x better than not lubing and saves me a ton of time on the job I like least about building a keeb. Yes, I use plastic tubs - also for the springs - and yes I use one tub per oil/grease. When I tried out tub lubing for the first time I actually wanted to automate it by using a small motor to rotate/tumble the tub but that didn't work since the stems would just stick to the sides. So shaky-shake it is, it's a lot faster anyway :)
@AnzelLmao2 жыл бұрын
tub lubing is awesome! if i feel like the switch is smooth enough or that lubing doesn't change the sound too much, i also skip lubing the bottom. I also recently bought a rock tumbler to possibly automate my tub lubing but I guess based on what you said it might not have been the best idea LOL

Now we just need a quicker way to lube the housings. Maybe make a brush head out of silicone that's molded to the exact shape of the housing then use a lubed sponge to apply it to the custom brush
@AnzelLmao3 жыл бұрын
Very creative! But a suggestion that I have is to just skip bottom housing lubing altogether and just go straight to overlubing the stems!
@regenosis3 жыл бұрын
@@AnzelLmao Wouldn't you still need to lube inside the bottom of the bottom housing where the springs will contact?
@AnzelLmao3 жыл бұрын
@@regenosis depends on the switch! It’s all preference, and there are times where I lube only the stem and spring. Experiment on a few switches before lubing a whole batch to see which method you like best!
@jagdteaguer2 жыл бұрын
@@regenosis you dont need to and shouldnt do this, if you lube your springs this will be enough lube for the inner part of the stem housing. If youre not careful you can overlube this area and cause an air seal which will make your sound squishy and also cause your switch to be harder to press due to the negative air pressure build up in the bottom of the stem housing since the air cant leave due to the over lube.

hii! great video! this looks like a very efficient method! i just ordered some ktt halu halo switches and i might lube them, but i saw a comment that said this method might damage soft stem materials like POM (which is the stem material of the halu halos). if i just do this method more gently and slowly for the stems, would it minimize any damage they might sustain? also would going slow make it harder for the lube to coat/spread?
@AnzelLmao Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the switch- Most stems are pom and I haven’t had an issue. While I say to exercise caution personally I’ve never had issues with scratching stems after lubing, even with stems that are very soft (raeds/naevy v1). But gentle and slow is fine! You just have to do it for a while.

Actually, it's not bad bag lubing tactile stems either. You can just brush off the lube from the stemlegs with a humid-wet cuetip before closing them off with the tophousing. It works just as fine with tactiles too :) Clickies however I cant answer too, since the lube might actually catch the click mechanism stuck I dont think thats a good idea.

To add a comment about SuperLube, been a big fan with SuperLube Oil and their Grease (part no's 21014, 41106, 21030). For stems/housings I use a mix of SuperLube Grease and Oil (it's about 3:1 grease to oil) in a separate container and have had good experiences with it. I also tube lube the stems and brush lube the bottom housings using this mixture. Since SuperLube grease is also pretty cheap, tub lubing is less of an issue with waste.
