Ever wondered what English majors actually do (or don't) at university? Still doubting whether to study a degree about English? Well hopefully I'll shed some light on the topic with this video.
Please do comment if you've got any more questions, although I'll probably be more active on instagram or reddit.

15:55 not only cinema, but also any artistic work in general, ESPECIALLY if it has any kind of story or narrative involved: i.e, theatre, music, poetry, comic, novel, even painting, COOKING GOD DAMN IT. I can't consume any piece of art without over-analyzing it. Yeah, thanks uni, I guess. Great video and great analysis, btw :3 if I hadn't done it already, I would definitely go through the degree again after listening to you guys.

Congratulations, guys, I really enjoyed it♥! It was so comforting to listen to someone who has lived/is living the same as me.. I couldn't relate more. I'm really looking forward for more videos! I have a little suggestion, I'd like to hear about the type of insecurities a student of this degree could have and how to overcome them... I'm in third year and I'm super shy every time I have to speak aloud, am I the only one? :(

You're definitely not. I remember that in my first year I couldn't keep my knees from shaking as I started speaking in any presentation or whatever project. Being part of a theater group definitely help me gain confidence (shame we've got COVID now, I remember you were a decent actress ;D), but it's also something that comes with experience. A friend told me that she forced herself to "practice" by asking a question at least once a day, even if it was something she already knew and just rephrased the information, and she'd check a box. She kind of turned it into a game, and in keeping that streak, she ended up quite confident just because of the habit of doing it. Hope it helps :)

Hi there!! There aren't so many videos about people who study English philology, but even less English philologists talking in English, so to me, watching yr video has been awesome. I hope you pop up with a new one soon.

Great video guys, and a very good idea too. I would've liked to have something like this before starting this degree, especially considering how I was certain that I wouldn't be a teacher after I finished, and it turns out that is precisely what I'm doing (partly because it is my only option) I specially liked how you mention that you can deal with a lot of topics and not really become much of an expert on any unless you pursue that yourself. And I agree that there should be more work on academic writing. In my experience, I needed more practice handling several sources and working on extensive writing before doing the TFG.

Hey, nice to hear from you, glad you're finishing the degree :) And yeah, totally. In my case, I was lucky to do a few 3-5 thousand essays during my exchange, but if I hadn't done that, I would've been completely lost having to write a 15k word dissertation. Then again, this is probably a problem at our uni in particular, from what I've heard from other international students.
