I am a Hungarian living in the USA. Contemplating moving back, due to the insanity happening here. Although from Budapest originally, Szeged is the place I am seriously considering. It is a nice college city. Enjoy!

What cities do you recommended to move to in Hungary? I have Budapest, Pécs, Szeged, Debreden, and Pannonia in mind. You mentioned College City. I a applying for a Masters program, but I also want a social life, go our every now and then, meet new people, and have different spare time activities if you know what I mean. What's your final word? Thanks in advance, and I hope we can meet sometime. Happy 2023!!!
@SFUndertaker2 жыл бұрын
@@carlosmunoz7829 Happy 2013, Señor! The universities are concentrated in the bigger cities in Hungary. Those you mentioned, or especially Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged are all good choices. To be frank, I would chose Szeged or Debrecen ahead of BP. BP is a very big city with the associated traffic issues and such. Lots of tourists in the cool areas and that creates tourist prices and petty crime. Remember, Hungary is a fairly small country and all places can be visited with ease. If you have an opportunity, visit those cities for a few days each and decide then. I wish you the best of luck and enjoy Hungary!
@carlosmunoz78292 жыл бұрын
@@SFUndertaker Thanks!!! The thing is I'm applying for the Stipendium Hungaricum and I have to decide my top 2 choices right now or before the deadline. Another Panamanian who's living there said it's easier to get a job at BP considering the allowance is not that big. I'm okay with small cities, and I totally see your point. Having more opportunities and options in the city increases the prices and it may be more stressful 😅
@SFUndertaker2 жыл бұрын
@@carlosmunoz7829 I see. A bit more complicated than initially meets the eye. Unquestionably, in BP you will have an easier time to find employment. However, the cost of living is likely higher as well. There are reasonable areas, especially if you get out of BP proper and find housing in the “suburbs”. The public transportation is safe, reliable and cheap. Maybe even faster than driving a car, in some cases. Not to mention the parking. For a tight budget, that’s what I would recommend. When young, everyone want’s to live in a flat above the liquor store and five minutes walk from the bars and clubs. However, it is fun for a couple of weeks and then reality sets in. For someone from a city in the US, BP is cheap. Even in the pricier, central areas. If you are from Panama, the cost is not that cheap, especially in the aforementioned neighborhoods. To summarize: If you need employment, BP is the way to go. Pick the university and based on its location, pick the area where you want to live. Cost, transportation to the school, transportation to possible work (which is likely in the center). How far to walk to the nearest bus stop, tram (villamos) stop or commuter train (hév) stop. When is the first and last public transport to that area? Do you need to change lines? BP, and Hungary in general is real safe. However, you want to avoid the more rough and tumble neighborhoods. No one needs a fight with some drunk or get pick pocketed. Get a good map of BP and surroundings with public transportation schedules. Research the districts of BP regarding cost, traffic, accessibility and safety. I wish I could be more helpful. Suerte Amigo!

@The_Catnip11 ай бұрын
This isn't Scandinavia. We learn English and other languages in school but people don't use it and they forget it. In Budapest or the bigger cities it is more common to find people who can speak English. But to expect people in a foreign country to speak your language is a little bit annoying... Maybe move to other English speaking country if you don't want to deal with the language barrier.
