did I miss it or is your title misleading? Nothing wrong with a cone brewer, you just like this one better? Also why did you blatantly put down recycling containers from other industries? your viewers aren't big farms that need 2000 gal brewers, they are home farmers that 9/10 can't afford 'premium' purchases. I'd sooner shame the company for not wanting to recycle than give them a thumbs up after hearing them proclaim recycling is a fools tool. Isn't that what compost is, recycling?

Apologize for misleading anyone. Cone-tank brewers are a pain to clean & maintain, (ask any store that tries to service one on a regular basis). This company's brewers are a JOY to use. Time is money. Less time wasted prepping next batch of tea = faster, more efficient recycling of soil life, for ALL farmers, big & small.

I absolutely need it large scale. We are planting 120,000 outdoor cannibis plants here in Switzerland this year and I’m coming from California where we use compost tea. No one is using it here yet and I am about to introduce it here but I used to brew it for only 48 plants. As we are spread out over many locations I want to be able to brew it semi locally and on a large scale. We have plenty of the square 1000 Liter tanks available. Care to recommend a good blower for purchase in Europe anyone. I’m planning on going simple with the brew. A good organic microbe rich soil, some fish fertilizer, sea weed, like kelp or maybe sea 90 if it’s available here and black strap molasses, unsulfered of course

I've always read that conical brewers are superior in yeast, bacteria, and/or microbe production. I find it hard to believe that the wine industry has had it wrong all these years... The conical shape promotes healthy microbe biology, by allowing dead cells to fall into the seperation chamber, while the healthy bacteria flourish above.

@@VajrahahaShunyata That's seriously AWESOME, stoked to hear that you are gonna rock Swiss Tea👌... Would recommend 50 to 100 gallons per acre, 2x monthly. Use a "Dayton" type air blower (squirrel cage exhaust fan), hang it above the IBC Tote and run 4 inch ducting directly into the solution, (dangling through port-holes drilled in the top and using either fishing or baking weights to maintain submersion.

As a commercial tea brewer (4000gal ea week)I find cone tanks best because cleaning is simple. No way you can brew tea without heavy particulate settling on the bottom. Ever tried to clean sediment out of a tank with no drain hole at the bottom? Good luck with that. I clean my 500 gallon cone tanks nightly, takes about 10 min each. Cleaning the 2" pvc below (vortex design) with a pipe brush takes seconds.

What I can remember on the well known book called "teaming with microbes" by Jeff lowenfels,States that any bubbles smaller than a milimeter kills the microbes. I know the smaller the bubble means more air. But to small rips the living organisms. Have you read of this knoweledge boogie brew?

Yes we are aware of of this, although believe they were referring to fungal hyphae, (not microbes). Most compost tea recipes are bacterial in nature, microbes are a lot smaller than 1mm , so we don't feel that the oxygen bubbles can hurt them.

The post doesn't answer WHY should I NEVER buy the conical shape. Conical shape is an absolute breeze to clean. The absolute best brewer we found is the brewer by Synergy in Santa Rosa, CA. The brewer was designed by Milke, the owner, in collaboration with Elaine Ingham.
@BoogieBrew

Cone tank tea Brewers allow too much light to penetrate for one, and are additionally a royal pain to clean, they build up bio-film much more than straight / dark & light-proofed barrels.. Cone tank Brewers are an inferior design to begin with and are adapted from chemical storage containers, which were never made for the task of creating a clean, aerobic infusion. This video, by showing how a proper tea Brewer SHOULD be crafted to begin with, makes a mockery of all cone-tank systems.

A simple homemade airlift bioreactor using homemade vermicompost and black strap molasses will blow away both this machine as well as Boogie brew. Just what they state about molasses shows they lack knowledge in propagating microbes. If you doubt me just look at my videos.
@BoogieBrew
@BoogieBrew 7 жыл бұрын
Agree that my knowledge isn't up to the same level as many others, including yourself. Send us video links, will gladly re-post them. With our 'bulk-granola' recipe, Boogie gets overwhelmed by high sugars, but molasses is a WORLD-CLASS microbial propagator, especially with right ingredient combo. Thank you for setting the record straight, I DO stand corrected!
@MrTimjwilson
@MrTimjwilson 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your open mind. I thought I'd add that a single airlift with cone bottom tank is easily cleaned if done immediately following making ACT. Usually a rinse and light brushing is all that is required.
@Gizmo1869
@Gizmo1869 7 жыл бұрын
According to Elaine Ingham the sugars in molasses will promote bacterial growth in your compost tea, so if you're looking for fungal tea you shouldn't feed it sugars. It all depends on what you want, fungal or bacteria.
@gcdcpakmbs
@gcdcpakmbs 6 жыл бұрын
Too much molasses can cause an extremely rapid increase in microbes. Too many microbes can use up the oxygen faster than your diffuser can dissolve. So your tea can go anaerobic enough to reduce the population of microbes. Probably won't go totally anaerobic because once enough of the microbes die off, your air will catch up. Use molasses and other microbial feeds sparingly. I add more molasses, seaweed, and some humates to my tea when it is in the sprayer to provide the microbes with a better environment outside the brewer.

I still don't know why cone tanks are bad because in the cone tanks there are no added or moving parts (like the disk for example which has a huge static space under it) so they are easy to clean with high pressure water) In Growing solutions' brewers there is no circulation of water or oxygen at the bottom around the disk, so it's most likely anaerobic around there.
@BoogieBrew
@BoogieBrew Жыл бұрын
It's because they are a pain for most gro stores to maintain and clean, plus allow light penetration, etc. There's so much air moving water at the bottom of the Growing Solutions disc, no way will that ever become anaerobic.

Cos they are very difficult to clean of bio-film - it's almost impossible to reach their deepest crevices / bottom of the tank etc. It creates a complicated adaptation of something which is used for a different purpose, (which is that of a feed or chemical storage tank - not the ideal for brewing compost tea).

@@BoogieBrew Vortex brewers are superior, as they draw in more oxygen into the liquid compost.
@BoogieBrew
@BoogieBrew Жыл бұрын
@@katrielp Not when it's at the expense of simplicity and ends up requiring maintenance which becomes too much trouble for dedicated farmers to keep up with in the first place. How much oxygen do you really need before it becomes truly redundant? Using a decent enough air pump (with an output of 1 liter/minute for each liter of tea infusion), and a simple round barrel, a superb AACT can be produced easily and at minimum expense, without the unnecessary burden of scrubbing bio-film deposits from hard-to-reach pockets in a cylindrically shaped system which becomes a royal PITA to clean. We have seen this scenario play out time and again at well-meaning grow stores: Lacking the time and resources to properly clean their fancy 'air-lift' style cone tank brewers, the result is typically poor quality tea inoculated with bad (anaerobic) microbes. Keeping things simple to begin with is simply the best option.

Love the 500 gallon tanks mounted on the 18 wheeler. If the US govt was smart, heh, they'd buy a fleet of those, subsidize the cost of the ingredients, etc and America's food producing states would have turned the clock back in terms of pristine soil biology 200+ years. This will be the future someday when people realize what a compost tea can do for the soil and the food it produces for us! Love it!!

How are the aerating discs ever cleaned? Seems like a breeding ground for microbes. How is this any better than an air stone? Also, title seems extremely misleading, conical tanks have no flat surfaces for sludge to form or pockets of no water movement, making them instantly superior to a cylindrical model. As someone who has had avid interest in aquarium setups and water aeration techniques, this design seems clearly inferior even if it does look shinier than a "rudimentary" steel framed concial tank setup. For planted aquarium tanks, C02 diffusion is an art form which many involve themselves in. Compost tea brewers need to learn from that industry. The many microbubbles of this design is inferior to the rolling boil of a single aerator: whose primary role is not to aerate, but rather to move the water to where the oxygen is - at the surface. As the aeration of the water happens primarily on the waters surface, and less so from the microbubbles as they travel up the water column. Nevertheless, some great concepts shown in this video, love the business idea of compost tea brewing trailer. August definitely seems like an innovator, i'm sure many of Growing Solutions ideas will help change industry.

As usual Mr Boogie does not know what he is talking about nor does the poor fellow being interviewed. Facts are that large farms using ACT are using large sized cone shaped airlift bioreactors [brewers], 1,000 to 4000 gallons. There is nothing on the market which increases dissolved oxygen in liquid [water] as much as an airlift. This is pure science. Research it if you like. Guess what? This is why airlifts are used in big laboratories worldwide. Black strap molasses is a complex carbohydrate which is one of the best feedstocks for bacteria, archaea and fungi. If the fellows in the interview know so much about microbial growth [extrapolation] where is their video data? If you want to replicate this growing solution's brewer then get yourself the same diffuser, a pump, a mesh bag or coffee basket, a food grade plastic bucket or barrel and go for it. If you want superior results build yourself a system with an airlift. They are cleaned by hosing them out after use. A cone shape just ensures good homogenization; you can use a bucket or barrel. Mr, Boogie, please share where you get your knowledge that microbes are harmed by light. Ever heard of photrophic organisms and the tremendous benefits they can bring to soil?
