Hey guys, check out what kind of mess a failed pilot bearing caused because who ever worked on the car installed new DMF and they did not replace the pilot bearing. It ran out of grease and it fell apart which caused an audible sound between the transmission and the engine, around the flywheel area.
Always replace the pilot bearing if you are doing a clutch, engine, or transmission replacement.

Pilot bearing on my old car died a month after install. Don't go with the cheapest one either. Had the pull the whole transmission again just for the bearing.

On my previous Ford Escort ZX2. Did an automatic to manual swap and used the pilot bearing that shipped with the clutch. I hope not to have to do anything too extensive like that to the ST yet, only at a year and 15k miles so far.

Would it damage the crank shaft my truck makes chatter noise starting off on a hill or driving going up a hill it will make chatter noise it’s not that loud tho

Hey man, I just paid $900 labor to a mechanic to do a clutch job on my 93 VW Eurovan Westfalia. I found the brand new pilot bearing I gave the guy inside the van. He forgot or ignored to replaced it. The car has 188k miles and god knows how many on that bearing. What would be the right thing to do ? They guys is not replying my messages about it. Thanks (car runs smooth though)

does Jetta MK6 TDI with manual transmission also needs a pilot bearing? according to the service manual the Pilot bearing/ "Needle bearing" not used in manual. but i still get noises when releasing the clutch. i have a Single flywheel

Is the sound what you showed at the start of the video due to the pilot bearing (whining on deceleration)? I have that sound but on acceleration and deceleration but my car is a diesel with not a lot of engine noise. From reading forums people say the pilot bearing shouldn’t make any noise while driving with clutch up as it isn’t moving?

I am replacing my clutch, flywheel, release bearing & pilot bearing for my 1971 Dodge & the pilot bearing that was in it had roller bearing like the video, It came out in pieces. I am not sure if the race is still in the shaft opening but when i place the new bushing in the opening I can tap it into place. Should I or is the race sleeve still in. I have pix.......any advice???

Well, in my case, preparing to lower the transmission again, just barely over 25k km since cluth, press and slave cylinder replacement, so a real pain in the ass to get out
