My view on Sekiro regarding difficulty. It isn't easy but I think that its actually tougher for Fromsoft veterans because it took longer for us to adapt to the combat differences. I think lady butterfly was the point where I actually realize I needed to use posture and deflection (prior to that I was trying to play like it was DS). There are also a couple of spots that I think are designed to troll their fan-base which non-fromsoft players won't even notice.
@ViviVariety2 жыл бұрын
I have a similar theory, I think later From games are designed to "trick" veterans. Bloodborne forces you to shun shield based combat, then Sekiro heavily punishes the roll-based combat that has been a series staple. In the end each game's difficulty is subjective but I think you're on to something for sure. I feel the same.

Ds2 is my favorite so far, working thru ds3 right now and partially doing elden ring and ds1 coop. Really excited to keep playing these games whenever I have time which is rarely with work and social life but I'm totally hooked. I'd tell anyone the beginning is the hardest as you're weak and with limited tools, as you progress and gain confidence in your setup, how to approach enemies timing wise, overcome some bosses, it all gets easier. I also fully stand by the "get gud" mantra, as funny as it is you will not succeed in these games if you don't try to improve on the mistakes that get you killed and challenge yourself to be better. Reading wiki or researching a build type or weapon can make things a tonne easier but even just trying a boss one more time after being super frustrated helps, I've done that a few times and it's worked, especially with some of the hardest bosses (the ones I found hard) like capra demon, o+s, 4 kings, gwyn, ruin sentinels, ancient dragon, fume knight, margott

It’s the single piece of media that has entertained me the most, gave me the most laughs, connected me to the characters most, and just enthralled me most out of everything I have seen. It truly is my favorite piece of media in general and it still holds a special place in my heart all these years later. The show’s staff put their heart and soul into and it shows. Truly a labor of love and I’m heartbroken that it’s over.

"There is so much more to this series than just difficulty" is the statement people who did not play them need to hear. I started playing these games recently, with Elden ring, and I first I thought that souls like were just horrendously difficult games for masochists. Yeah they may be hard sometimes, but that's just one aspects of these games which are first and foremost incredibly well designed worlds which you will want to explore again and again.
@KayOScode Жыл бұрын
Dark souls 1 was my first four years ago. Since then I’ve played through every single one many times each and can still confidently say I like ds one the most. Every aspect of the game was so well thought out. The world design is incredible. It doesn’t feel like a game with many small dungeons, it feels like a game with one big dungeon. Shortcuts you open up at the beginning of the game are still used often till the very end. Every boss except bed of chaos is great, either in the fight or in the lore. Later entries just seem to have the same atorious or manus repeated many times throughout. While those bosses are fantastic, those entries miss out on some of the more gimmicky puzzle fights. Yes they have them, but most fights are just a guy flailing his sword around and you just have to figure out how to string your rolls together to dodge it. I love how in ds one, you can be easily punished for rolling a lot. And often you don’t even have to roll to dodge attacks. Spamming roll isn’t what made ds one so amazing, it’s the culmination of everything. I love the newer entries, I just wish they would go back in time in boss and level design a bit.
@ViviVariety Жыл бұрын
I think similarly at times, because as messy as DS1 is, it's so hard to top things like the level design, or even the minor things like the fact that your weapons feel like they actually have weight to it. While I generally prefer the later games just a bit more, there's something about DS1 that feels so carefully crafted, which isn't something I can say about games like DS3 and Elden Ring.

I just wrapped up Elden Ring after playing it exclusively for nearly 2months. It’s no exaggeration when I say it’s top 5 best games ever created. I would go as far as to say this is the best game I’ve ever played. It’s rare when I obsess over a game, but there’s something really special about this game, I just kept coming back. I think the biggest hurdle for most people is really understanding the enemy move-sets, learning their attack patterns and exploiting them. The other big hurdle is preparing yourself mentally that you will DIE and DIE SEVERAL times, that’s also part of the beauty. Sure, it can be incredibly frustrating, but you’ll want to keep going because it’s just that good.
@ViviVariety6 ай бұрын
I think people really underestimate the power of mental fortitude with these games, so much that I think mechanical skill is more like a recommendation, not a requirement. For example, my wife is a self proclaimed "bad gamer", like she didn't get into games until later and she generally prefers RPGs and things with less mechanical skill. Yet, despite being a so called "bad gamer", she blasted through every Fromsoft game to this date, with no summons or cheese to boot. Was it easy? Nope. But you'd be surprised what you can accomplish once you accept that you're gonna die, a lot, but you only have to win once for it to count.

Started blind on a DS1 playthrough via a $5 Xbox sale on my friends Xbox 360. I was able to play it on his newer Xbox and I played it completely blind. I'd go to his house to play it and he would watch me, mesmerized that i would keep trying and making my way through, all while laughing at my mistakes. To date it is the best gaming experience I have ever enjoyed, leading to many playthroughs in DS1, then a playthrough of DS2, DS3 and finally Elden Ring. I own Sekiro but I haven't brought myself to continue because of the difference in combat; perhaps with the improvement with my timing, I should give it another shot. Demons and Bloodborne are on my top list of playing next but I only own a PC for ways to play. I WISH I could inspire my friend and others to really and truly give these games a good go - do not let the difficulty on the box drive you from trying to complete these. They are beautiful worlds and many different things/concepts that the game will show you. The lore and gameworld makes you think and consider certain actions, some having irreversible consequences. These are essentially "cleansed" on your new game playthrough or through certain game actions, giving you a larger overall look at the things that happen, a new gauge to your skill level and a larger appreciation for the game as a whole.

Breaks my heart making it to the bosses arguments of this video,l. After POURING so much time into elden ring going back and reminiscing on all the glorious engaging challenging in the sense its not artificial difficulty just overall culminating a gameplay experience to go unmatched and be a huge change in gaming overall. Isshin the sword Saint is still to this day probably my favorite boss of the whole franchise and imo is the pinnacle of all of their efforts over the past decade.

Yeahhhh I admit to also having mixed feelings on Elden Ring's bosses. There are some I absolutely love, and others that are just...ugh. I have a theory that we wouldn't be so mixed on it if we weren't spoiled by such a good run of Old Hunters to DS3 to Sekiro. Then Elden Ring feels like a step back.

@@ViviVariety absolutely, just kind of disappointing like all the previous installments can easily name so many great bosses on a whim and elden ring just doesn't quite do the same thing, will say maliketh and rennala were huge standouts in my first playthrough but everything just seems more lackluster in subsequent plays. Hopefully they bring some big patch along with dlc and hope to see the game thrive for a good while

I'm with you on Malekith, for me I really liked him and Morgott. And while there's a lot to say on ER bosses, I will say that I really, really like the gameplay and story integration. Bit of a teaser for the Elden Ring video but still, that's one of the highlights for me when it came to ER.

It’s amazing to me how you go from feeling like the game is SO hard, and feels impossible to progress in the first level… to BREEZING through the first level with ease even on new playthroughs… but you didn’t get faster, your reactions didn’t change, nothing about your inner motor skills had to improve for you to get the game.. you just start to understand how it all works and you learn to swim with the current. It’s like everything about the game changes and you venture into new areas with confidence, but you didn’t need to learn how to have god aim or god speed or anything to do it. Just experience and adjusting to what you encounter

Great video! I've been a FromSoftware fan since 2017 when I first tried Bloodborne, and since then have played and finished DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring multiple times. Maybe I'll try the older ones (especially DS1)! Though I agree with others that say the boss quality in Elden Ring is worse than previous games, I think it has its fair share of great bosses. Maybe a combination of mechanics comparison, nostalgia and the sheer number of bosses in ER favor the idea that bosses were better in previous games? But I think when met on its terms, the main ER bosses (i.e., those with remembrances, plus or minus some required ones) are great as well. When I think about BB and DS3 main game bosses, I realized that many of my faves are really from their respective DLCs. So here's to hoping that ER DLC bosses will also be the best!

You've expressed something I've been thinking about as I script out Elden Ring, it's actually uncanny. We've been spoiled by such a good run from Old Hunters to DS3 to Sekiro, so anything less than incredible really stands out. Elden Ring does have good bosses, like I'm partial to the Omen Twins and Maliketh. But there's also a lot that are less fun and more frustrating. And even the "weaker" Elden Ring bosses aren't that bad.
