I stopped at the window too, dumbfounded by the priorities of the maintenance staff in Anor Londo. There has to be a reason why it is not broken, it wouldn't really change anything if it were still busted. Here's why d3 lore is so crazy. Dark souls 3 was my first souls game, I fought this boss called Aldrich and thought hey it looks way different than what the game intro showed. After completing the game I went on to buy DS1 and DS2. While playing DS1, I fought a boss called Gwyndolin, and instantly realized that hey that guy looks familiar, he looks exactly like Aldrich. After doing some research and watching this video..... I realize Aldrich is actually the black goo.....he was in the process of devouring Gwyndolin. Now that is DARK souls.

I've more speculation about the "Pilgrim Butterfly": if you look around the High Wall of Lothric at the beginning of game, you can easily see a very lot of trees where the hollows peoples are praying. All the trees have arms, heads and and are ALL pointed up in direction of the Castle of Lothric. The form of the trees resemble an hollow in the act of fly into the sky and looks really similar the Pilgrim Butterfly's wings as well. May be the trees are the incomplete form of the butterly?

I wonder what Aldrich's train of thought was? "I just have a vision of a world of deep sea further down the line, imma eat the gods, to grow fins or something"
@simonhogg11433 жыл бұрын
The deep miracles are characterised in some cases by the "gnawing/biting insects". Aldritch might have seen this as the path to getting closer to understanding the deep. So he eats and eats, and becomes an almost liquid in form. Perhaps he believes that is he can consume everything, his liquid form will cover the world and bring about his world of deep sea?
@danny53573 жыл бұрын
Or perhaps like Kefka he wanted to demonstrate the lack of permanence in the so-called gods by striking them down and defiling them. After all, even he became a lord of cinder, not for virtue but for might. A demonstration of the meaninglessness of power by virtue of its vulnerability. "The gods are meaninglessness, anyone can be powerful. Watch." And by devouring the gods and their power, cutting ties with the age of fire and making himself the champion of the deep.
@TymaDem3 жыл бұрын
@@danny5357 So, basically, Aldritch wanted to get a fourth DS3 ending before the player does 🤔
@anagoth93 жыл бұрын
I always just assumed "The Deep" was another term for the Abyss, ie. darkness, ie. humanity. The vision of a "deep sea" would be the darkness the envelops the world when the fire fades, which is why Aldrich abandoned his duty to relink the First Flame after his vision. Like the Locusts and the Sable Church of Londor he rejects the old gods who embodied the First Flame and did everything in their power to stop the age of darkness, so it makes sense he would devour them to stop them from interferring.

Well at least you don’t have to fight the dancer at the time. She is basically impossible for a new player at the correct level but is actually impossible in reality because you only have a +1 weapon when she is balanced around having a +8 or even a +10 weapon. Your vigor is also really low still and she will one shot you. You definitely need more experience and levels before I think it’s reasonable to defeat her. Even then she is still pretty challenging. At least you can just pick up the banner and leave if you killed Emma and deal with the dancer later.

The moral of the story is: -Iudex Gundyr: Always try to be on time, otherwise you get the job that no one wants. -Vordt of the Boreal Valley: Your boss has absolutely no respect for you! -Curse-Rotted Greatwood: Nature is damn scary sometimes... and gross. -Crystal Sage: If you do your homework and study really hard you get superpowers -Deacons of the Deep: Priests are scary! -Abyss Watchers: You and your friends might be powerful enough to change the world, but at that point the only people left to fight is each other. -High Lord Wolnir: Even the strongest, most powerful people in the world are afraid of the dark. -Old Demon King: Respect your elders because some of them can still kick ass. -Pontiff Sullyvhan: People don't become assholes just because they're rich, riches attract assholes. -Aldrich Devourer of Gods: Even if you only eat one god, if you call yourself the devourer of GOD'S most people won't question it. -Yhorm the Giant: even when you are good at your job, responsible, royalty, a gold-plated badass, and you have a giant sword, someone will still laugh at you. -Dancer of the Boreal Valley: When you are famous people will fuck with you just so they can say they did. -Oceiros the Consumed King: I got nothing, this guy's just fucking weird. -Dragonslayer Armour: Inanimate objects have just as many stories to tell as people do. -Champion Gundyr: see above (Edit: sorry @Yohannan, i wrote that wrong. i meant see the entry on Iudex Gundyr) -Lorian and Lothric: Crippled people can still be fucking awesome. -Ancient Wyvern: Fuck this boss it sucked -Nameless King: Some people never give up on their friends, and those people are usually badasses. -Soul of Cinder: Your legacy can last long after the world has forgotten your name. -Champion Gravetender and Greatwolf: if you are boring people will pay more attention to your pets than they do to you. -Sister Fiede: Nuns are scary too, also: Some people will die for their family. -The Demon Prince: There's no lore on this guy, i got nothing. -Halflight Spear of the Church: no mater how good you are at something, someone in the world is better than you. -Darkeater Midir: No matter how good you are at something, some challenges are too big for you to beat on your own. -Slave Knight Gael: Starting from the bottom of society and working your way up can make you strong enough to survive the end of the world. I've thought of a few more: - Curse-Rotted Greatwood: (Thanks, @Endurabledude for reminding me this boss isn't a natural spirit tree) If you pile all your problems away in one place instead of dealing with them as they show up, one day it will come back, all at once, to bite you in the ass. - Deacons of the deep: Organizations that are around for too long eventually forget their purpose and devolve into nothing but keeping their group alive. - Lorian and Lothric: Family can be more important to some people than the rest of the world, and sometimes it's hard to tell if feeling that way is a good thing. - Ancient Wyvern: @CER SIVA is right, there is always another way. But if you can't find it, ask a lazy person to do it for you. Not only will they show you how to do it, but they will do it in a way that requires much less work. - Demon Prince: Even if you have nothing special about yourself, you can be famous too if you let someone rich insert something inside you. Bonus points if they're royalty. - Oceirus the Consumed King: Some parents love their children, but others raise their kids to do what they didn't, or couldn't do when they were young. When these children try to live their own life, their parents can't take it and snap. - Dragonslayer Orenstein: A consistent story isn't always the same as a good story. Pointing out plotholes might only be distracting you from the point someone is trying to make with their art. filling in plotholes however, can be a fun and thought provoking excersize. - Patches the Unbreakable: A small business run by one person can be just as corrupt as an international mega-corporation. Pay attention to where the things you buy come from. - Emma the High Priestess: Young people often assume that their elders are full of old and archaic ideas that don't mesh with the modern world. That kind of prejudice only blinds them to how, even if flawed, those ideas are born from how much their elders care about them. - Segmeyer of Caterina: Fan service can be a bad thing, but if done right it can be an opportunity to tell a beautiful and interesting story. - Orbeck on Vinheim: If you do your homework and study really hard you get superpowers... or you could die. Especially if you hang out with cultists. - Hawkwood the Deserter: when you see your friends going down a path that turns them into something less than what they were, and you can't help them, it can be the hardest thing you'll ever do to just walk away. Be a good person, if not for your own sake, then for the sake of those who care about you. - Horace the Hushed: if all you do is sit in the corner of the room with your arms cross, and never say anything, everyone is going to pay attention to your hot friend instead. - Eygon of Carim: When you have a character who dresses in all black, has a deep gravely voice, speaks in jaded insulting quips, wields and over-sized impractical weapon, and is literally a knight who decided to protect a maiden without her asking him to, it will take a special kind of writer to make them truly cool. Usually it's just cringe inducing. - Ludleth of Courland: If you were a powerful person in your youth, but now you're just a withered, crippled old person, there is still a way for you to be helpful. Maybe even a way for you to save the world. - Giant of the Undead settlement: Sometimes making a friend is as easy as walking up them and saying hello. You would normally expect Sesame Street to tell you this, but sometimes adults need to be reminded of that, too. - Lapp: sometimes people who go on long soul searching quest, that take them to the end of the world, come away from the experience thinking being a dick is just as good an idea as it's always been. - Pickle-pee: Even the best written and most depressing stories have a place for a character whose name is a reference to a penis. - Locust Preachers: Some people will always be stupid or desperate enough to fall for someone in a dark alley promising them the world. Thank's for reading all the way to the end. I know it's just a youtube comment, but i really appreciate all the positivity. This took a long fucking time to come up with. I'm dyslexic, so it took even longer to write, since i had to keep fixing so many mistakes.

I like to think that the Soul of Cinder is literally an amalgamation of all the chosen undead who linked the fires, and that the Soul of Cinder doesn’t just adopt Gwyn’s fighting style, rather it’s Gwyn’s very soul surfacing, the god king himself trying one last time to preserve the age of fire, HIS age of fire.

One thing that I do not understand is how is it preserving the flame when it is trying to kill us and not let us link it? 🤔
@jotarokujo3603 Жыл бұрын
@hasimansari843 it's likely a test, if you can't beat it then you won't be able to link the flame. Although this doesn't explain how unkindled ash tried and failed to link the flame before. But it's possible that the soul of cinder had not manifested when they tried. It's also not clear when the unkindled ash attempted to link the flame, for all we know they could be from all over time, as far back as the events of ds1. Perhaps the soul of cinder manifested in response to many failed attempts to link the flame. Dark Souls gets murky pretty quickly when you try to clarify anything.
@Chopper1539 ай бұрын
No, the soul of cinder is fighting you to test your strength, not to preserve the age of fire. It's a test to let only the mighty become a lord of cinder and link the flame. The soul wants you to win, but it'll test you first.

But the Lothric line is what kicks off DS3, not the previous two. That would mean they would have to go back in time and smash literally EVERY statue. Not exactly out of the realm of possibility, but it does seem excessively petty.
@ASlopedRoof4 жыл бұрын
Lothrics curse was to become a lord, drastic means was most likely abandoning the faith in lothric, and using dark sorceries of the kingdom to transfer the ressurection ability of a lord, to his brother by magic[who could actually fight], ressurecting a lorian who would go out and kill a demon prince, and die while doing so, to acquire enough souls and flame to potentially link the fire, but upon ressurection the curse blinded and left lorian crippled, but nevertheless he succeeded and defeated the demon prince, only to have upon returning, and seeing the consequences of fire, to abandon their faith

The one thing i still don't understand is lothric and lodran the same place or just because the stagnant of linking of fire, the place got fucked and twisted? I just can't wrap my head around why irithyll and anor londo is connected, or why the old firelink is the boss stage of demon prince
@jacobturner14903 жыл бұрын
@@ilhamadigunawan5264 actually I just read about it the other day. Irithyll is Anor Londo. When all the gods left and Gwyndolin was the last god in Anor Londo, he became more confident (I guess) in his deific status, assumed the name The Nameless Moon, replaced the golden sun with a bright moon, renamed Anor Londo Irithyll (which means moon in the elf language of LOTR, apparently) and filled the city below with his Darkmoon Knights. Pontiff Sulavyn, who worshiped Aldrich and wanted to feed him a god, joined the Darkmoon Knights and usurped power. Now instead of following Gwyndolin, the Knights followed Sulavyn, not knowing they were being corrupted by the deep and serving Aldrich. Pontiff gave his Knights eye rings, which slowly turned them into Pontiff Beasts (which is why The Dancer and Bort look so wonky). The pontiff and his Knights stormed what was Anor Londo during the fading flame and imprisoned Gwyndolin in the chamber for Aldrich, and Yorksha in the church tower for later. One of my favorite bits of lore!

"Devourer of Gods" does not mean you have eaten more than one, just like you only need to a kill a King or a member or royalty once to gain the title "Assassin of Kings"
@xBINARYGODx8 жыл бұрын
BTW - the weapon at the end of Aldrich's staff is not a real weapon - it seems to be there only via spell - like Soul Great Sword, only more permanent. The Nito great sword dissolves once you kill him, but his staff (Qwynndolyn's staff) remains. Since we what kind of affect eating someone like Qwynndolin does to him, if he HAD eaten Nito (who cannot be eaten since he was cannon-killed in the first game) he would probably look different than what we see. I mean, the fact that Nito is gone and even in the second game only a highly-faded soul of his is remaining, makes it hard for him to be eaten.
@VaatiVidya8 жыл бұрын

I kind of wondered why the Soul of Cinder would fight you if your going to link the flame - but then I remember that all but of the endings is not about linking, and after seeing it again, the link-ended does not look like it works (comparing linking at the end of DS1 with DS3) - so perhaps even if you try, linking the fire is either no possible for you even now, or perhaps it simply not possible at all anymore. Or perhaps it just means that you DID link it, but each linking leads to a less impressive linking and less impressive first-flame (so, at this point, might as well be a failed linking).
@jean-philippehaufroid64258 жыл бұрын
I like your idea. When you think about it, Dark Souls 3 is the game that let you many way to end the game where the two firsts only give you the possibility to link or abandon the flamme. Here you can litteraly TAKE the flamme for yourself ! It's like if the fire had became more malleable, weak enough to be put in someone's hands and to be use for whatever we want... And sorry for my english...
@samsed68558 жыл бұрын
Well, the linking ending is normal linking, but the flame is already way too faded, not strong enough to burst into flames. Soul of cinder not allowing you to link the fire may be the same reason as why all the lords don't want to sit at their thrones. They don't want to link the flame. They want it to end.Or, more believable, is soul of cinder guarding the flame. You may just want to start a new age of dark, why would the soul risk it?

I have a theory about the four Lords, and maybe this is just me. I think they are a meta reference to the four main play styles of Souls games. Lothric and Lorian are the people who always co-op, Yhorm plays offline (hence the loneliness), Aldritch is the person who spends all night invading other people (and teabagging you after backstabbing you for the 10th time thanks to a laggy connection), and the Abysswatchers are the people who play in fighting pits. I feel like that might make the Lord of Cinder the person who's played this game so long under so many files that they can handle (almost) any challenger with ease.

I’d say that Gundyr did get his wish in at least helping link the fires. The coiled sword imbedded in his chest is a testament to that. He serves as the guardian and gatekeeper of Firelink Shrine. A brutal way to determine who was worthy, to be sure, but it proved it nonetheless. Slaying Gundyr proved that our Ashen One was the one who would link the fires, and the the sword in his chest is the one that ignites Firelink Shrine’s bonfire. He helped find one worthy enough to link the fires, and even if it wasn’t him, his hope was to find one who would, wasn’t it? I feel that, in the end, he did fulfill his service.

I think the “unspeakable means” mentioned are some form of illicit sorcery used to fuse the souls of Lorian and Lothric. They both have something the other lacks. Lorian is powerful in physical strength. Being able to single handedly take down a demon prince. While Lothric is weak and frail but powerful in the ways of magic. By fusing the souls of the two brothers together they could make a dual being powerful enough to link the flame

theres no way aldrich could 1v1 nito, nito was the OG lord
@SohanSmol8 жыл бұрын
yet he was pretty weak and i also don't get how possibly Aldrich can eat him cause Thıs game happens after dark souls 1 and takes the timeline that the chosen undead from DS1 fallowed words of Frampt perfectly , never met kathee , didnt even accidently hit illusion of gwynvere and fought gwyndolin (so he rests alive that way Aldrich can eat him) then just normally linked the fire
@dawsonanderson92307 жыл бұрын
Memeaboo well nito was the lord of death so he could have come back too life... but it's more likely Aldrich dreamt up his weapons

+Memeaboo maybe the chosen undead give to nito 73951 eyes of death and nito give his soul
@coolduck52627 жыл бұрын
he didnt have to. he didnt kill nito, just ate him. his corpse, that is. or nito lived again after being killed in ds1, in that case he didnt have his great soul, while aldrich was a lord of cinder himself.
@sambog9t7 жыл бұрын
It seems clear to me that Aldrich and the Pontiff's story is very tied to that of the royal family of Anor Londo. Keep in mind that even though in DS3 its implied that many, many cycles have passed since the first, the story is that old lords of cinder are being re-awoken. So, perhaps Aldrich was the lord of the second cycle. Perhaps this is why Gwyndolin was still alive, and Anor Londo exists once more. As for Nito, we know from Dark Souls 2 that lord's souls manifest themselves in newer beings - and Nito's soul actually appears in one of the bosses (I believe its The Rotten right?). So the other theory for how Aldrich could have gotten Nito's power is that he devoured a different lord who had inherited Nito's soul.

After revisiting this video i just realised something. What if Aldrich's age of the deep sea is actually in reference to the rise of the old ones in Bloodborne (FYI this is in support of the shared Soulsborne theory). The elder gods in Bloodborne are largely based off of Lovecraftian horror which has a big focus on the deep sea and is where many of the elder gods reside. That, and the fact that the gods in Bloodborne are largely fish-based. a pretty flimsy idea but i do think its worthy of thought.
@MKsukkiiMiso4 жыл бұрын
I always think that Aldrich has many connections to BB since he talked about vision of deep sea. His name in Japanese is “Erudoricchi” or in EN is Eldritch which represents Lovecraftian horror. Also his covenant’s icon is similar to Oedon, the formless great one, rune too.
@Blackhawk2114 жыл бұрын
And don't forget there's an actual Caryl rune called "Deep sea"
@enveritas49484 жыл бұрын
Could be a reference to Moonside Lake where you fight Rom in Bloodborne. Aldrich dreams of the deep sea that is in fact the barrier/pocket dimension Rom is in. Also Rom teleports around and uses a mass homing attack. Maybe Aldrich learned that from Rom?
@ilhamadigunawan52643 жыл бұрын
Nice theory, but i wonder, if the word "deep" in the "deep sea" refer as actual depth of the sea or the "curse" that aldrich brought to the deacons or the church itself
@a.s.raiyan2003-4Ай бұрын
The Japanese texts suggest it's similar to the Abyss not the sea.

Is it just me or does it seem like, in the world of Dark Souls, they are becoming more and more desperate to find people to link the fire? If you assume Yhorm came first then Aldrich and lastly the Abyss Watchers, it reveals something interesting. First is Yhorm, a giant that apparently no one liked but everyone admitted that he was immensely strong. Then there is Aldrich, who was a lord "not for virtue but for might alone." Lastly there is the Abyss Watchers, who like fit the title lord in the absolute loosest sense. In fact the prince Lothric wasn't even naturally strong enough to earn the title of lord.

Interesting. Yet another example of decay, though this one is of standards. How desperate must the denizens of this land be to make a crazed, cannibalistic once-human beast that practiced sorcery the epitome of godhood now that the gods themselves have fallen?

Lothric is really interesting because he was born for the sole purpose of linking the fire, which is really unusual. But he was too frail so Lorian basically had to carry him the whole way. Then they didn't even link it in the end but whatever

@@onespecialddnerd5933 Lol. It's a reference to one of the more difficult MMO's bosses named "Tarasque" it's a giant skeletal dragon, the game was born during EQ times I should also mention. Basically, you have to pvp the enemy faction's players, fighting your way to the basement, the winning side gets to fight the dragon. Sometimes beyond 100 players show up on each side to do this, it drops some rare loot, but only a few pieces so like 90% of those people get 0 besides killing people. So when I saw the name similarities, I decided to make a git gud joke.

At the High Walls of Lothric, you have the undead that are worshiping, the Dragons/Drakes, but some of them seem to be worshiping the other undead that seem to have been turned into trees. Are the Pilgrim Butterflies a third stage? Undead Pilgrims, Pilgrim Trees, and then into the Pilgrim Butterflies. Since so much of Dark Souls revolves around the repeat of cycles. Could the Pilgrim Butterflies be the early stages of the rebirth of the dragons of the first dark?
