Fire Emblem 7, the first game released overseas and also known as "the one that has Lyn it", let me explain why you should play this game in around 4 minutes and 30 seconds. It's definitely a better introduction than feh (Fire Emblem Heroes) that's for certain, and it its story isn't laughable bad like Fire Emblem Engage.

Some notes and heads up for anyone who wants to get into this game: You can only have 5 support conversations per unit so pick who supports who very carefully. Units that die in Lyn mode return in Eliwood mode but not the next chapter of Lyn mode (yes, I've had people think they join the chapter after they died lol). The fortune teller lady is really useful and is available throughout the entirety of Eliwood normal mode in the battle prep menu, I'd recommend using her for character recruitments instead of resorting to an online guide so that you can play this game as blind as possible.

Also one thing i found out on my latest playthrough: use the mani katti as much as you want in Lyn mode. It will repair itself completely once you enter Eliwood or Hector mode

Honestly I used to say awakening was a better start, but after replaying both hector mode and eliwood mode on switch, I think fe 7 is genuinely the best way to start. Even if some of the maps are a bit hard to navigate for a newby

I used to think Awakening was the best entry point for FE, but it sorta makes it harder to get into older games with the grinding opportunities and casual mode, fe7 is a better option for people who wanna go back to the older games, plus it's easier to get people to emulate a gba game than it is a 3Ds game.

I actually just replayed this game (LHM --> HNM) and i must say: i still love it. It was my first Fire Emblem game but even playing it now i'm impressed by just how fun the maps are. The game being a little on the easier side makes more units viable even if they're not the best, and the map design is amazing at keeping me engaged throughout. Even Lyn mode, on hard mode without the forced tutorials, provides some maps that always leave me feeling satisfied. I love this game. I think that it is my favorite traditionally styled Fire Emblem game. I *might* still like Shadows of Valentia slightly more in some aspects, but that game is so different that it's hard to truly compare. But Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade is tight :3

Only looking at gameplay and the thorough tutorial, I would agree with FE7 being the best Fire Emblem for beginners. But if I think about what saved Fire Emblem and made it far more popular than ever before, which is to socialize/having supports with the playable characters, I'd rather recommend Awakening or even the more complex Three Houses as a first FE experience. Supports in older FE titles are almost non-existent except for PoR. I, for example, completely missed the intriguing conversations between Matthew (my fav from 7) and Jaffar and only read the supports on the fandom page. Also another point, I personally started playing FE with Awakening mainly because I liked the art of the game. Compared to it's modern artstyle, the older FE's looked outdated on first glance so it took me years to give them a chance. Only after playing Shadows of Valentia did I start to go all the way back, now with PoR and Light & Shadow being my narrative favorites. I think first impressions and character design is what sells games too. That's why I'd still say Awakening is the best starting point. No offense to older FE titles though.

Well that stuff all hinges on what someone is actually looking for in a game so I think looking at gameplay is a more pivitol point of discussion. Also once again the artstyles for every individual game is up to individual preference, I know for a fact there are plenty of people out there who would probably look at for instance the GBA trilogy vs Three Houses and choose the former for its bright colourful pixel art over Three Houses more detailed but drab af 3d models.

I would've praised Lucius if he didn't get hit by that God damn 2% crit in Dragon's Gate twice even after I reset. Friendship with Lucius is over, now Erk is my favourite early game magic user.

No for the love of god this game is NOT CLOSE to the best starting game. Path of Radiance is the best starting point IMMO because the story is built for newcomers and it feels very natural. The forced tutorials and relatively underwhelming main story of FE7 are just not it. It's also easy to learn the game without getting rekt in POR and with the game's story, newcomers would very likely be enthusiastic about checking out the other FE games.

Honestly, if i was recommended FE7 as a newcomer to the series, i would probably never had tried any other games in the series. This was almost what happened to me, my first game was awakening which i didn't really like, then I played FE7 which i liked better, but was honestly just kinda dull and boring. If it wheren't for some close friends who were obsessed with the series that begged me to try other games i probably would never had become a fan. The game that actually got me interested in the series was FE4 btw. And for some explanation on why FE7 isn't great for newcomers. How i see it, the goal of an introductory game isn't to teach someone how to play the game, but rather to hook the person, and get them interested in trying other games in the series. The best way to hook someone is to give them an impressive or memorable experience. I just do not think FE7 is a very impressive game. I don't think FE7 impresses much when it comes to gameplay, its very bare bones with very little customization, cool tools to play around with, or much of anything to set units in the same class apart from each other. I also don't think FE7 impresses much when it comes to story either. Its just too simple, with most of the actual interesting part of the story either looked behind supports, hard to miss optional chapters or second playtroughts, which most first time players will not experience. Remember that most new players who wants to get into the series, are either coming from Smash, or from having played other JRPGS. For smash fans, FE7 doesn't have any characters from smash in it, which is already a huge downside. And for JRPG fans, these players are comparing FE7 to the likes of Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade, or Persona 5, FE7 just isn't very impressive compared to other giants in the JRPG sphere. Don't get me wrong, i am not saying FE7 is a bad fire emblem game, i am just saying that FE7's strengths, like good map design and replayebility just aren't things that will hook a new player, and make them want to try out other games in the series.
