Hands down the best demonstration of this tool I have seen. I have been using Joe’s noise sensors for months! Absolutely love them, can’t go wrong with any of Joes tools. Great guy to deal with as well. Thanks for the great video man! Just found your channel, liked and subbed! 😎

Another variable with the chassis ears is the next time you create the noise, the noise itself may be different -- maybe you hit a bump harder, it was a different bump, or you the car was going a different speed, etc. Those variables, along with listening to chassis ears on a different channel, may make it hard to pinpoint the noise. Having the same bump/noise, recorded 4x from different locations on the car, but all at once - eliminates that variable. I haven't used Joe's sensors because I had already made my own -- but I used the chassis ears microphones, chopped off the ends and put bnc connectors on to use with the scope. I've also used them to diagnose bad wheel bearings. I've been burned by guessing before - the scope eliminates that. I use 3 channels -- one the left strut bolt, one on the diff (for fwd,) and one on the right strut bolt. Drive the car till you hear the bearing noise, and replace bearing from the channel that's got more activity!

Yeah exactly, I was going to say that in the video but pretty sure I forgot to say that part. The scope can save you hours to even days on hard to track down noises. Also it eliminates the doubt you might have by pulling the " let's try this and hope for the best"

Excellent video Jason. First time I've seen this product being used. Exactly what I need to track down a suspension related noise on my car. I think I will try out that Fnirsi 2-channel scope as well. Great tip for locating noise under car. It's hard to steer while looking & listening under the car with the car door open :)

Thanks! And it always seems to happen like that, get a new special tool and then don't see the problem again for weeks

Good idea. Never thought of using the scope as a noise detector..

Great video. Can you do a video on how to set up and use the scope properly? Thanks
@CarnageDiagnostics11 ай бұрын
Thank you, I will do a video just like that sometime soon....a lot of people are against and or scared of the scope so I'm trying to show how useful it is as a tool first.

How is this less time consuming than wired Chassis Ear? 0:41
@CarnageDiagnostics5 ай бұрын
It may seem like it takes longer to set up but once you get the hang of it it isn't much more time. If the noise you are casing happens over everybump you probably wouldn't need them. It's more for the ones that you have to drive around for awhile and it's more random.

I have used that matco one for years. Works great. I use it for all kinds of noises. I dont work on cars through. matco one also shows you bars for signal noise.

The pickups are clamps that stay in place and transmit wireless like a sensitive mic. easy to narrow down a noise to a location as you close the clamps in closer to each other. I made a video about noises and locating with that tool. I enjoyed your video. I only work on hd diesel so not the same procedures.

Like I said maybe I had a bad unit, I bought one of the very first ones. My friends that have them also love theirs but there's no denying that being able to see all of your sensors on the screen at the same time is a quicker more accurate approach!

fortunately I work on semis so I always have a driver for test drives. customers love it when I verify this way. keeps them involved lol@@CarnageDiagnostics

Great Video and excellent devices. Quick question. I was using ChasisEar probes on the Pic 2204A but those probes generate not only too low voltage but also probes are not consistent. often times no 2 probes in same conditions produce same voltages or output. This is a big problem to start with. I am wondering, with joes sensors, are they factory calibrated to produce same output under same conditions? I mean unlike microphones where one mic is too sensitive than other microphone and produce different outputs under same conditions, are these sensors (joes) were calibrated at factory to have same output/sensitivity for under same conditions? Do you know if they are pizo electric ones or accelerometers?
@CarnageDiagnostics8 ай бұрын
Which chassisears probes are you using? As far as I know they don't make any true plug and play devices to use a scope with. I have seen a few videos of people rigging them but not sure how accurate they would be. I'm pretty sure joes are pizo electric ones. I have 4 and I get the same reading if in the same spot so definitely accurate. He sells them for $35 each and they are definitely worth it! I'd say any questions you have with them to email him. I think he has an email up on his website

Hi CD, After analyzing your concept of using a scope and joes sensors i am now a believer. Question: Do the long enoughtest leads to reach far end of vehicle come with the units(s) or, are there specific leads that you recommend to order? Tony
@CarnageDiagnostics9 ай бұрын
Hi Tony, for a 4 door car and if say the noise is in the back, I just run them to the box on the back seat and that's hooked up to a computer on the passenger seat. For longer vehicles like a pick up truck or box truck they do sell lead extensions. Super high quality leads or extensions isn't really needed in this case because any movement is what you are looking for. I would however use high quality leads for looking at in cylinder and anything on a motor because the higher the resolution the better!!

Do the joe's sensor need to be calibrated?
@CarnageDiagnostics3 ай бұрын
No but you can change the scale on your tool depending on the type of noise/vibration you are after
@daleaferrrier10 ай бұрын
I have the scope and the sensors from joes auto electric, but not sure how to setup the scope properly to capture this.
@CarnageDiagnostics10 ай бұрын
If I'm using them to find a panel in the roof pop for example, I'll start at 5 volts or lower scale and 10-20ms for time. Set a trigger so it will pause the screen. When it's for heavy knocking in suspension or subframes I normally go to 12 volt scale. What are the settings and scope you're using?
@عبداللهالكعبي-ف4ن9 ай бұрын
Can it extract wheel bearing damage?
@CarnageDiagnostics9 ай бұрын
Yeah of course, it's also good for on transmission/transfer case when the noise sounds like it's from both. It can help you narrow it down
@americandieselllc10 ай бұрын
The ability to not have wires going to test leads is the benefit of having electronic ears. Test drive is the only way to recreate some noises.
@CarnageDiagnostics10 ай бұрын
Yeah but you drive them with the sensors hooked up just like you would with chassis ears
@americandieselllc10 ай бұрын
are the leads needed or is the sensor wireless? @@CarnageDiagnostics
@CarnageDiagnostics10 ай бұрын
No they aren't wireless so you'd have to tape them down with like painters tape but trust me, on those noises that are random and you aren't sure which channel was louder, this makes the diag so much faster
