I built a Tele with all fender parts for around $1000 cdn. Found a lake placid blue body from 2014 and a maple neck, also from 2014 on eBay. Fender vintage Tele pickup set, locking tuners, the whole 9. Set it up and it sounds and plays great. Super low action. I love it

The Fender Custom Shop is incredible! Luckily, I ordered mine back in 97' and still have it to this day. And I have another Relic I purchased and few years ago, and they play and feel great. Just like a well-worn guitar should.

I had the CS build me a Strat for my retirement gift to myself. It's an awesome guitar. My only advise would be to think about it heavily for a year or so, so you get it right. If I were to do it again I'd have the same guitar but a different finish. See through butterscotch blonde rather than faded sage metallic.

I hate my custom shop strat honestly. The frets weren't level when I bought it and I had to do a complete setup on it. Worst part is, I can't sell it. I have it listed on reverb for $1,500 less than what I bought it for. Obviously my one bad experience doesn't mean they're all terrible, but when I custom order a guitar for $4,500 bucks it damn well be perfect.

No matter the quality of the guitar, doing a setup is expected no? Just the shipping will mess up the setup a bit. The frets should be level though.

Sounds like an outrageously bad experience. Any good US guitar should arrive set up and definitely have level frets !

@@A_Noid I think your question is valid, but I don't know the answer. In my heart, I'm a Fender guy. So I keep giving them chance after chance, but my Fender Custom, my 3 American strats, American tele, and my Chavel all required extensive work to play at the level I expect all guitars to be. I even had to sand down the neck heel of my Chavel. The only Fender I've owned that didn't need a lot of work was a MIJ Fender Aerodyne. My PRS, Fano, Gibson, Ibanex, etc. all played like a dream right out of the box. I'm not discrediting anyone's great experience with Fender. But clearly I have bad luck and Fender's QC needs improvement.

@@shaunw9270 I'm in Canada. So yeah, extreme weather swings are pretty common, plus the vast differences in climate across North America. That doesn't help keep guitars well set-up when shipped.

Tim and Scott from Polyphia are 100% guitar gods! Discovering them and learning to play their songs has made me such a better guitar player. It's incredibly frustrating trying to learn their music, but if you just break it down and learn it piece by piece, it's the most satisfying feeling when you can finally play a song from them all the way through! My new favorite band!

i've modified an '06 american standard strat and got amazing results. lsr nut, custom pickguard hss with 1 vol, i tone, (i wanted space between the strings and the vol knob) evh frankenstein bridge pickup, locking tuners, fret level, crown & polish. i added a spinal tap volume knob that goes to 11. i had an art student paint the fender logo that was embossed into the case, to look like it was on fire. other than the art, nut and the fretwork, i did the rest myself.

Love those Wildwood heavy relic over sunburst HSS, still haven’t seen a Ferrari yellow over sunburst with a channel bound ebony board and reverse headstock lol , that’s what I would do . I love the small talk and off on a tangent chats y’all have it’s always more interesting than any radio morning show when y’all get to talking about movies or different fandoms or whatever it maybe. I mean there’s only so much you can say about the Fender custom shop the work speaks for itself. I’ve seen all kinds of their normal ish stuff I like when you show the oddball stuff like that meteora and this thinline strat. I wish that the mod shop offered a roadworn or relic option even if it was just the bodies only.

Lately I've been thinking a Orange Gretsch eather a 5420 or a 6120 full body but with telecaster pickup combo. Definitely a Bigsby I think that would look soo cool. Some flame. Crome hardwear gold pick gard and rings. Anyone else think that would look and sound awasome? I wonder how difficult it would be to retro fit a Electromatic with tele pickups the plate bridge for a bigsby the whole thing?

I need to play more custom shop guitars before I would pull the trigger on something like that. I actually like the 7.25 and the 9.5 radius on Strats. Also need to try more neck shapes, I am pretty sure I know what I like but I'm not there yet. My favorite neck so far is the asymmetrical neck on my McCarty s2.

YES!!! Build your own custom shop strat is exactly what i did! I went and picked up a Tokai Gold Star Sound that doesn't have to have any mods or anyone else's tendencies etched into it done! lol It's a head scratcher to have someone deface paint etc on a guitar to then charge more for it! I mean lol

Would love a surf green over black paisley Hardtail strat with SRV neck, 12inch radius (but with maple fretboard not Pau Ferro) with Jumbo frets. The relicing job should let you see the black paisley finish. Oh wait I just remembered I don’t have custom shop money 😅😅😢

Eddie is the KING….Us old guys grew up with the absolute best guitar players and musicians in general: EVH, David Gilmore, Mark Knopfler, Neil Schon, British Wave of Heavy Metal with dueling guitars like Tipton and Downing, Murray and Smith….then we have the bluesy Angus Young…common guys…no one today comes very close…maybe Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy in Alter Bridge…Love the channel…keep it up please!

my thoughts on Eddy. If not for Dave, he would have been a Steve Vai or Joe Satriani-virtuosos for sure, but not ROCK STARS. Everone also talks about how Grunge killed hair metal, but VH pretty much killed all the guitar music that came before it. I remember an interview with Nugent in one of the mags and he was pissed and bitter about Eddie saying he could play as fast as him without all the "tricks"

My dream Fender is closer to a Charvel or Kiesel than a Fender. The Ultras/Elites are close, but quite there, especially for the Jazzmaster I'd want. I'm going to settle with a Troy Van Leeuwen loaded body and a Warmoth neck (wenge, block inlays and binding, 12-16" radius).

I asked, they can't. All I wanted was a strat, any colour but it needed to let killer bees out after each face melting solo. Apparently, according to fender, well I'm just not right in the head. Personally I think they don't know how to fit bees into the guitar. Actually I'm just happy I got a strat and a tele. Nice there is a service you can order what you want.

Please don't get me started again on Fender Custom Shop guitars. All i am saying this time is don't expect them to get it right with the first sample. The most important part is ordering it through the right custom shop dealer, it makes a big difference when your dream turns into a nightmare. You are so lucky in the USA, you have some great people like Casino to buy from, here in the UK we are not so lucky. I have two custom shop Strats both ordered a few years ago, the first one was a Hank Marvin spec one, which was perfect on arrival, but a few years later i ordered a Bonnie Raitt spec one, and it was a disaster, i was lucky that the dealer was as annoyed as i was, and he realy had a go at the Custom Shop, they admitted that it should never have left them as it was, and offered a free upgrade to a master built one, thankfully after 18 months later it arrive pristine this time. Price is no guarantee of anything, but a good dealer are worth their weight in gold when it all goes wrong.

I have played many CS guitars and I own 2 K line and 2 Nash guitars and forless than half the price they are every bit as good as a CS. I ordered my Nash tele and didn't have to wait a year to get it. I don't care about the name on the headstock.

What irks me is that the Mod Shop offers mahogany bodies but you can't get a natural finish. The Mod Shop guitars are flawless. Can't justify the $ and the crazy lead time for a CS guitar.
