“Disposable” cameras were never meant to be just tossed out. They were meant to be recycled by the manufacturer. That’s also why they’re also called “one time use” or “single use” cameras. I think more camera recycling programs should be brought to light (no pun intended) as there are some out there that do recycle single use cameras.

I really can't get my mind around it. It happens so often that someone is genuinely disappointment that their photos underexposed, but then show the most gorgeous photos from the bunch. I saw a Reddit post a bit back, where someone showed a slightly underexposed photo they liked. Virtually all the responses were people giving tips on how to avoid making ugly photos in the future. Once again, I thought it was one of the better pictures I saw that day.
@zynthioАй бұрын
Came down here to say this! He kept commenting on being disappointed in many of these photos, but I found every single photo to be really lovely on both cameras. The variations in the exposure, colors, shadows, aberration, edge blur, etc were beautiful regardless - those little accidents and inaccuracies are what I love about film. I would actually be more disappointed if every shot I got was perfectly exposed and had perfectly consistent colors. If I wanted that I would just shoot a digital camera on auto

The timing of this video couldn't be better. I was contemplating whether to take a point and shoot to a festival next week or a disposable camera. To my surprise I think it will be the disposable camera. The image quality seems to be ok as long as I can tolerate the lo-fi look and it won't bring me to tears if I accidentally lose it. At least not because of the camera itself

@teocrawford5 ай бұрын
Ahh glad you like it! Oh please keep in mind that the camera has little influence on the colours. The greens look different because the cameras are using different films. The point & shoot had a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 in it, which is actually a film I dislike for similar reasons that you wrote, however it was fitting for the comparison in the video🙌🏼✨ Just wanted to point this out👍🏼

Another thought, this may be against your process of shooting film, but those casts are totally fixable in post/scanning. I don't mind editing that bit in post since the scanner is making that color balance decision already, but I'd get if you're not about it. But yeah listen to Teo that's a film stock thing more than a camera thing.

I feel like a lot of the P&S shots are pretty fixable in scan/post. Obv not the point of this video but that shot in 15:24 is definitely recoverable (unless this already is your recovery lol). And the difference in sharpness is brutal between those two. That said in good lighting the disposable did better than I expected. There's definitely utility in a disposable, and less to go wrong.

Hi Teo I have a question about rookie film scanning haha. I was using my Canon MG3620 printer the other day to scan my documents and I realised, what if I use the printer's scanner to scan the negatives? Do you have any suggestions regarding printer scanning? Keep up the great work Teo!
@teocrawford5 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm not too familiar with scanners, but you could give it a try I guess. However I don't want to get your hopes up too high. If the scanner is made for documents it will probably not be very good at scanning a detailed range of colour which for colour negatives is of course essential. But as said, I'm not too familiar with scanners, I'm just guessing here :)
@LillySchwartz5 ай бұрын
You need a backlighting unit to scan negatives and most printer scanner combos don't have that. If you want to use your printer, you will have to scan lab prints and that kinda defeats the purpose. Good scanners for negative scanning would be Epson v600, v700, v750 etc. Don't bother with the v330 - I had that when I started with film 12 years ago and it was terrible. If you can find a used v600 it's a good compromise between price and flexibility, but keep in mind that flatbed scanning is very slow for 35mm film. I only scan 120 film and bigger on the v700. And you only need the bigger variants, v700+ if you shoot large format film which I do occasionally. Only difference between v700 and the new v850 is lamp warmup time, the quality is pretty much exactly the same so you can save yourself 1K bucks by buying a used one. Imho DSLR/mirrorless scanning is a much more sensible way of scanning though because it's faster and processing time matters. If I didn't have a v700 and a Pakon already from 10+ years ago I wouldn't bother with scanners nowadays. At least scanners are very long lived though. I bought my Pakon used and it was released in 2006. Still runs fine almost 20 years later which is pretty amazing. The v700 is 10 years old too and hasn't broken although I've put hundreds of rolls through it.
@xlkoenigsegg15685 ай бұрын
@@LillySchwartz Hello! Thank you for your detailed explanation! I've actually recently saw a few videos regarding good-quality film scanning at home, that doesn't involve a digital camera. The V series of Epson seem to be the go-to for this scenario like you said, and the overall price from those 4 years+ videos seem to be just about $100 US. The price now on ebay seem to have inflated about around $200 dollars now for the V600 and honestly I'm okay with investing that much, BUT FOR SOME REASON the shipping for all those products to where I live (Canada) seems to be $200 Canadian as well (you heard it right, $200 for shipping from the US). The new Epson V600 is $440 Canadian on Amazon and is above my budget at the moment, I think I will stick to the film labs for now. Hopefully in the future I can afford or the prices drop down (prob won't and will go up) for these scanners :( . Thank you once again for your experience :))
