Anthony do you know if you can make it just show one image when you press CTRL and click on the image on that preview part instead of it like collating all the images and making them smaller each time you select another image whilst holding in CTRL and clicking left click on the mouse? (you done it on the 12:00 point on this video). As i like to go through my images with the CTRL left click and click the image to select which ones i wanna import - but i like to view the image preview as im doing it and obviously on bridge its making each image smaller and smaller the more i click onto.

One of the things I love about Bridge is the CMD-L key. This is a full-screen view of the image. If you don’t do anything, it’s just a slide show. But the real power is you can left/right arrow to advance back and forth, use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out to 100% or more, hit the 1-5 keys to apply stars and 6-9 to apply color labels and verify quickly run through a folder of images, check for critical detail, mark it as a keeper, and when you’re done and return from slide show mode, you then can filter on just your 5 star images or your red labels to work on.

But you can do that as well in LrC library module, plus pick and reject, add to target collection and so on... is the only advantage of Bridge to skip the import stage? I never used it myself and I'm interested in what it can offer that cant be done in LrC, its quite easy to jump from lightroom to photoshop as well once the edit is done ctrl+E and then deal with remove tool, warp or anything else I need that LrC cant do

Anthony, I love your channel and your enthusiasm. I use Bridge to add all my essential IPTC and XMP metadata to my files, plus all my basic presets for different lenses, edit all the images via ACR and only then import all the edited Raw files into Lightroom for exporting using a range of presets. It’s brilliant at this and, in my view, much easier to edit in ACR rather than Lightroom. Keep up the good work!

I have been using Bridge for months now and completely agree. An added feature is that if you want to use Lightroom CC (not Lightroom Classic) you can easily invoke that as well. I find this helpful if I want to start editing on my computer but for some reason need to edit on a tablet o phone later. Bridge really was key in helping me move on from Lightroom Classic, and sped up my workflow dramatically.

Have ignored Bridge for years as it didn't have enough bells and whistles. Now, I see from your video, it has a lot more and interfaces well with LR and PS. Very timely. I'm in the middle of re-assessing my workflow for multiple reasons. My knowledge of Bridge was limited to it about 8 years ago when I didn't adopt it as I favoured LR, but with what you've shown, it's time to rethink. Anthony, thank you very much for this video. I have spent much time mastering Lightroom and only played with Bridge once when I first subscribed to Creative Cloud. Now I see how this could fit into my workflow and I will experiment with it. I have a huge book project that is half done, all in Lightroom, so it will remain there But for other little projects I can see that Bridge might save me time when there are only a few images to work with. Sometimes I will take half a dozen shots to experiment with a specific feature and there is no pressing need to import them into Lightroom. Once again, a great video.

Damn! 1-hour ago I uninstalled Bridge because I needed disk space for an update and I never used Bridge. Then your video pops up and I am now re-installing Bridge. And yes, LR is slow and arthritic on my inadequate PC so looking forward to your Bridge videos. Great job.

When in Adobe Bridge Camera Raw can be hosted in Photoshop application as was shown in the video by double clicking on a RAW image, but if you use Ctrl-R (Cmd-R in the Mac) then Camera Raw opens inside Bridge and when you click Done you go back to Bridge.

Thank you for this. I switched from LR to Bridge about a year ago and am much happier. I use it like you did in this video. Bridge to ACR to PS and back to Bridge. But I’m sure it has advantages that I haven’t discovered yet. Looking forward to more videos like this. Hi Anthony, I checked into collections in Bridge and whether they are a suitable replacement for the LR equivalent. Here's what I found out: first, there is no way to synchronize keywords between LR and Bridge. There may be a way of exporting keywords from LR and importing them into Bridge, but I'm not able to find a good explanation of how you do that. Second, Bridge stores keywords and collections in files buried in your Windows user area. You have to ensure that you back this directory up in order to save your work. Bridge does not prompt you to back these files up. Third, creating smart collections operates as a snail's pace. Because Bridge doesn't maintain a catalog, it has to look at every image file in your folder tree, interrogate the metadata to read the keywords and decide on whether to include it in the collection. In summary, Bridge collections are a poor substitute for LR collections.

I like the filter option in Bridge, cause it allows you to sort by the Crop, Orientation, and also Aspect Ratio. In Lightroom, filter metadata at the top filter guide options, will only let me filter by orientation , Landscape, or Portrait. I haven't been able to find any way to add aspect ratio to LR filter. its simple to do in bridge. as I am editing action sports shot I will crop at various size, then export them by there size, Bridge makes it easy to do this when I am done .

I've been using Bridge as my first step before importing files into LR, to do things like basic culling and file renaming. IDK, for some reason I have this fear that doing a lot of removing of files and renaming files in LR may lead to corruption down the road, so I prefer to use Bridge for this (plus it saves me time so I'm not importing files that are trash or not worth keeping around). Although I have thought about just going back to Bridge and ACR since i end up in PS most of the time anyway doing spot removal on my landscapes, so LR is sort of an extra step that maybe isn't necessary in the end. Although some things, like batch exporting and printing is easier in LR (the print module is easier to use than Photoshop's printing functions especially for batch printing).

I use Bridge all the time as an image manager with Photoshop as my image editor. Bridge is easier and much more straightforward than Lightroom. The ONLY complaint I have about Bridge is that when you're doing a search, it does a brute force inspection of every image which, if searching a 100 GB library of images, can take a very long time. LR uses a precompiled database of significant words (keywords, filenames, etc.) and so its search function is blazing fast compared to Bridge. Not only that, but the search function in Bridge is much more sophisticated then that of LR. You can search for multiple words, ratings, keywords etc. I use LR _only_ for its fast search capability. It uses a ton of disk space but I feel it's worth it for those lightning fast searches. If Bridge had a similar search capability I would uninstall LR right away. I much prefer Photoshop for image editing. I would really enjoy a video comparing the functionality of these two Adobe programs for keyword management and searching. By the way, you're apparently living in Buffalo NY. I'm originally from Buffalo too and had a friend in high school named James Morgante. Any relation?

I am a long time LrC user. To make a long story short I have used Bridge to cull my last month's image shoots. I find that it is slower than LrC, particularly when trying assign stars to an image. I have to wait for the final preview to resolve before the star will "take". I tried assigning a few key words, but I need to work there more. It would be great if you could do a video re adding keywords, filtering by keywords etc. An example with a few keywords would be easier for you, but I'd like to see a more realistic demo with a few thousand keywords. The edits in Bridge can be seen in Photoshop as well as Lightroom BUT, please emphasize that images should not be "moved" around in bridge which are also in Lightroom, for as I remember, the "Location" will be disconnected in the catalog.... and the user will wonder where the image 'went to' ?? Just a thought ....... At least that is the way I remember it. ......... PS - Thanks for all your hard work.

I use Bridge to sort, organise and view images before editing them in Photoshop, but I also use it as a vastly more powerful and flexible replacement for Finder. (On my Macs. It will also.serve this function on Windows machines, but I can't remember what the Windows equivalent of Finder is called.) It works on all the folders on your computer, and handles every kind of file: Word documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, videos, everything. For instance, double click on a Word file, and Bridge opens the document in Word. Right click and it offers an "Open With" function that's useful if you use more that one program for certain kinds of files. You can sort files by type, by size, by creation or modification date, etc, etc. Right click on a file and you can Send or Copy it to any other folder on the computer. (Finder can't do this, I think) It's immensely powerful and flexible, and has a much nicer graphical interface than finder. I basically use it as my user interface to the computer.

Ah ha ; I think you have solved an issue I have been having with Lightroom. At times I wish to copy an actual file, Lightroom will only allow a snapshot or virtual copy - not a physical copy. I have had to go to the Finder - copy it - then reimport the copy ( with a new file name) back into Lightroom. Bridge seems to allow that easily. Thanks for the info.

@@Tajhad Right click on a file in Bridge, and one of the options is "Duplicate." This creates an identical copy in the same folder. I do this if I want to edit a raw file through Photoshop, and don't want to change the original.

I use both Bridge and LR. Often use Bridge for initial look. Also, for travel I use a PC with only Bridge and PS because the PC isn't powerful enough for LR. One question though. I sometimes used two or even three instances of Bridge for comparing folders and moving files before LR import, but it seems like Adobe has disabled the option of running more than one instance of Bridge in the latest version. Anyone found a way to run two instances of the latest Bridge?

@@robertdeforge2179 Bridge itself is a file-management and viewing utility, not an editing program per se. In Bridge, you have the choice to open a JPG (or a bunch of JPGs) either into Photoshop (in which case you can certainly overwrite the original file after editing, simply by hitting "Save"), or you can open it in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), which is exactly the same editing engine that LR uses. You can also export and re-size, individually or as a batch, straight from the thumbnail display, and apply any ACR preset 'recipes' you have saved as favourites, all without actually opening ACR. Bridge will also open files into any compatible software, whether Adobe or not. I can open straight into Topaz AI or Capture One, if I want. Once you've edited a JPG in ACR, it's treated similiarly to a RAW file. You can click "Done", and the changes will be effected and saved, along with the xmp information so you can go back and re-adjust, exactly like a RAW file. But that file will then only open again in ACR. Of course, you can also save-off a version, just like saving a JPG from a RAW file (which will be saved as Example.JPG_1/ _2, etc). There is no need to import or export anything to or from libraries or databases in order to edit it. Bridge accesses the original files, wherever you keep them, and will save edits back to the original folder (or somewhere else, if you tell it to). It's a fantastically useful program.

I used to use Bridge(it's a free download!) with Affinity Photo since Affinity don't do a DAM. But DxO improved their DAM capability so now I use Photolab for DAM and Raw. But Bridge is a good tool, better than DxO TBH, but DxO does all I really need.

Bridge and ACR has always been my preference especially with all my actions in Photoshop. LR just seemed an unnecessary step with little value added. Were I a staff photographer, I might find the catalog useful. Maybe.

I'm using Bridge to navigate my folders. Not using Photoshop. However, I'm frustrating by how Bridge manages Favorites and Collections. When the folder is not available (because it's a external SSD, or has been renamed for example), Bridge alerts you this folder is not reachable, and deletes it. When you have a lot of rules, seeing Bridge deletes your collection because it can't find the target folder, is frutstrating. Bahaviour you don't have in Lightroom Catalog.

I import with LR and the folder is auto named by year/date and runs a default filter. Two clicks, done. Subject, location, genre etc. are done with keywords, collections, albums, catalogs - keywords can be applied on import. I rarely use Photoshop. Other than organizing images from disparate sources (inapplicable to me), I see little benefit of incorporating Bridge into my workflow. Am I missing something?

Hi Mr Morganti, Every YT video I've ever watched on LIghtroom, most by yourself always say not to do anything to files or folders outside of Lightroom, but you now seem to be changing that advice. If you do any processing in Bridge will that be picked up by Lightroom and recognized by Lightroom?

I only use Bridge and Photoshop for many years now ( since the stone age) and a pro photog, but a photog. friend has convinced me I should give LR another chance. As you point out you always have import into LR. So I hoped over to LR, it was great to have some easy presets and then apply to all the photos, it could save me a lot of time. but now they are just stuck in LR. can not see in my files without exporting out whole new files rather than the changes showing up on my original raw files outside LR. Or is there some other way? I don't understand why all 3 of these programs cant just worked together in harmony, LR is very pproprietary. thank you for just confirming that I'm staying with Bridge. if you have a suggestion I have not found would love to hear it. cheers

I just use Bridge rather than Lightroom. In my workflow I select a series of images with the Shift feature or a group of pics with the CRTL feature on my PC. Then click on the "Open in Camera Raw" icon on the top banner. It will then only open the selected pics into Camera Raw. After processing the selected images I may select two or three that I then open in Photoshop. This workflow avoids opening Photoshop unnecessarily.

When I use Lightroom I just add the images to my Photography Folder and name the folder. Then I just direct Lightroom to where the photos are on the folder. This is the same as what you say you do when Adobe Bridge. Don't see much difference there. Thanks for the video.

It would be interesting to see the time advantage of just downloading files to a folder rather than importing in LR; is it really that much different? Particularly as you can easily cull in LR import before even copying them to your HD.

Importing in Lr is also done physically to a disk/folder nowadays. And you can acces those files directly too. Somewhere alomg the way Adobe has changed this. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried Lr Classic after years of boycotting it for this reason.

When I finish editing the image, can I just 'Save' it, meaning over right it, and move on to my next image? The exporting option seems like an extra step I do not need, as I want to replace that photo in my folder with the edit. I work with JPGs as a sports photographer, as 95% of what I use are correct out of camera, just have to adjust a few photos before sending to a client.

But you must take your images off your memory card so they still need to be imported and if you just copy them to a drive you’ve got to make a note of files names to avoid duplicates? It wasn’t explained how to use bridge to cull images, am I being a bit dime here? 😢

@@sh8736 Yes, I do have to import the images to my computer but then they are just there in Bridge. You can easily go back and forth between all your photos. I've never had an issue with dupes. As for culling, I admit I am terrible at deleting images but I don't edit everyone either. I go through and give the ones I want to edit a 5 and then go to the filter and work just on those images. I really found LR to be confusing but maybe that is just me being a bit dim!

When you edit a raw file in Adobe Camera Raw through Bridge, the edits are non-destructive and saved as an XML sidecar file. You can also have Lightroom write edits to a sidecar XML file when you edit in the Develop module there, but it doesn't need to do so because it saves the edits in the Lightroom database.

Quick question, if editing in camera raw and you move into photoshop to use say the replace sky, once you save that does it then take you back to camera raw?

No, it does not. But you can open the image from Camera RAW as a Smart Object into Photoshop, and then you can always go back to Camera RAW whenever you want. Even if you decide a week later you want to adjust e.g. the Exposure. Hover your mouse over the "Open" button in Camera RAW to get the Mouseover info for the Shortcut to open as a Smart Object. (I believe it is SHIFT + Click on "Open".) Remember that once you open the image in Photoshop, you need to *export* the image as a TIF or PSD file to retain the layers. Replacing the sky is done via layers.

I just went Lr+Ps after decades of Bridge+ACR+Ps. All because a faulty import function in Bridge I could not fix AND the added value of the Loupedeck+ within Lr. I think Lr is more complete and the selecting process and global editing is much faster with the Loupedeck. I never do any local editing in Lr (or ACR). Ps is much more versatile for that and much more precise. But having to use Camera Raw as a filter in Ps is still odd when working from Lr. Setting up the Loupedeck+ for use with Bridge and ACR is just too much hassle. The only reason I used to hate Lr was the inability to access my library physically, as files and folders on a disk. But somehow along the way they fixed that.

I would love to use the latest version of Bridge however it has become so so slow, and rendering is a nightmare since the interface went to support 4k monitors. I had to revert back to using version 12 which works very well... come onAdobe lets sort this out

Sorry Anthony, you seem to have glossed over a few things. You mention collections as "like Lightroom". How does Bridge create collections without a catalog to store them? Also, you did an edit using camera raw. Is this non-destructive like LR? Do the edits to into a sidecar file or are they applied to the file?

Like Anthony said in the video, Adobe Camera RAW is 100% equal to the Development Module in Lightroom. I believe while making the edits to his image, he shortly clicked on the masking tool in Camera RAW and closed it again.

For me there's only one thing missing from Bridge such as Lr, output/print a page with grid and file nome on top of images, I can use text watermark but how can I make it the "filename"?.

Now what really interest's me is how many 100mb files you can cram into one single folder and open that from an external SSD with out crashing :) ( and how much RAM one needs doing this with a Macbook Pro or Air )

Maybe a daft question but in LRC all the edits are non destructive, is that the same when you use ACR through Bridge?

Yes. Usually the edits are stored in a small .xmp sidecar file. (Like in LR, you can choose in the preferences to write the edits directly into .DNG or .jpg or .TIF files, which I would not recommend.)

If you do any file renaming or moving outside of LrC, then LrC will be lost and have no idea as to what you did. If you are a LrC user, only do these things withing the LrC catalog.

I love Bridge, but I find it rapidly sucks my computer dry of resources/power/ram/whatever... certainly can't be doing anything else/have anything else open at the same time... am I using it wrong/do I have it set up wrong/are the previews it has to build as it moves from folder to folder too big or something? I've had to resort to using other apps like Lyn for image browsing, but I much prefer Bridge. Any tips anyone? Thank you!

Once you start Bridge, it starts building previews. Upon each change of the source folder it starts again (for that folder). That consumes CPU and disk space. In Preferences -> Cache and -> Cache Management you can purge the cache and reduce the amount of disk space. In the interface, near the top and right to the file location path, there is a drop down menu in the shape of a stairwell. Change "Preview Generation" to "On Demand". Furthermore, in Preferences -> Startup Scripts you can deactivate one or two legacy scripts (like "...CC 2014" for the Stone Age PS Pano and HDR creation, that were in place before their modern successors in Camera RAW / Lightroom.)

Thanks for the introduction. One thing I can not figure out is how to filter on a particular item of metadata (say ISO speed). It is not in the filters panel. If I right click on Filter I get a list of metadata categories and ISO speed is checked but checking/unchecking does not seem to do anything. I can use the criteria in a smart collection but that compares text instead of numbers so ? 2500 yields 640 as matching. Is there any way to filter like you do in LR by just selecting the field?

Don, I've just tried this on a Mac and (old) Windows laptop and for me it works exactly like Lightroom: you open the "ISO Speed Ratings" category in the Filter Tab, click on the desired ISO values, and instantly the images in the thumbnail view are reduced to the selected ISO values.

@@andreas.farsch I am thinking it is because Bridge has not yet indexed a folder. If I look at some old folders ISO shows up but almost no metadata shows up on a recently created folder. I have no idea how long it takes for Bridge to index and I don't know how to tell if a folder has been indexed.

@@andreas.farsch I want to use Bridge to set up a workflow for preprocessing high ISO images. I have set up a script using exiftool which transfers images from an SD card to a file structure that mimics LR except each day has subfolders based on ISO. That way I can send all the high ISO to Topaz or DXO or ON1 before I start working on them. Since I don't have the overhead of a LR library I can then run a script again to eliminate the ISO folders. It works well but the bridge indexing is laggy.

@@rdbimages For instance my user presets in LR has over 20 and in PS about half. Same with another B&W folder. And nothing "hidden" in PS. I haven't used PS ACR as much as I use LR but somehow there not syncing or using the same source folders completely. Can PS presets be reset?

My main issue with Lightroom is it doesn't support working in a "team" environment where multiple people are editing photos from a shoot at the same time. Is this possible with Bridge? Where are things like the star ratings and coloured labels stored? If I open a folder with bridge on my PC and set some ratings etc, will another person see that same information when they open it on their PC?

For anyone else interested, I just tested this myself and it looks like it does work. I changed the ratings on a few RAW files in a folder then opened the folder on another PC and the ratings were visible there as well. They must be saved in the metadata?

I really dislike the 2023 adobe bridge I use 2-monitors and like to have 2-3 open now it doesn't seem to have that option to have more than one open when I try to drag files into the folder it doesn't allow me soo don't have the time for tutorial.
