I have had my 2012 for 8 years and I run with the exhaust brake on all the time since the time I got it, I have had no issues with the stock turbo whatsoever, plus it saves on riding the brakes all the time, it doesn't matter if I am towing or not, it stays on. I forgot to mention but it sounds really good when you have a 5-inch turbo back exhaust.

When towing or not exhaust brake to its full potential it goes hand to hand with proper extra plus distance required to let exhaust brake to get 80% it’s properties.

Paul if you do notice resistance that is more than what it should be. Couldn’t you remove the turbo and clean the carbon buildup off the vanes and ring? To regain 100% actuation. Also I believe the exhaust brake works much better and efficient with the manual because you have greater control of engine rpm and maintaining the range. My biggest wonder is when do my brake lights go on and as I rest my foot on the brake pedal. Or are the brake lights even active with just the exhaust brake alone I never really bothered to check?

What about using exhaust brake plus using towing button while not towing? Transmission jerks aggressive regardless if it’s a Aisin trans or the more common on 3500 dually. Do you recommend using both while not towing? I found out towing button plus exhaust all the time it works so much better. Your thoughts please! I’ve been following you since your previous Limited. 🤙🇺🇸

I only had two customers trucks do that. Both 68rfe. They hit hard when they are in Tow haul And exhaust brake on. Seems really odd that Chrysler wouldn't address that. One was a 2010 and other a 2016. Aisin is really aggressive when tow haul and exhaust brake on but no trailer behind but works well.

Tell me if I am right or wrong. If I’m just empty in the city I should turn exhaust brake to auto and on highway to manual. When towing over 4K tow haul is on. Should I still use exhaust brake when towing light? Also I have heard to never use exhaust brake during winter conditions. I know that applying brakes on bad winter weather is a big no, but the exhaust brake does not apply the actual brakes. I just never understood why to never use exhaust brake on bad winter weather? Great videos. Oh, the truck is a 2017 model in case that matters to the questions

The reason you don't want to use exhaust brakes in slick condition is because it's using the engine to decelerate and not the brakes therefore there is no abs in case the wheel lock up making it really dangerous. I hope that makes sense

Thanks for the explanation, always wondered how it worked. I use mine all the time except when roads are slick. Why wouldn’t you use it in slick road conditions that makes no sense at all that’s when I use it 100% of the time because I get no wheel lock up and sliding in ice and snow.

@@Jon-O. I travel through the Canadian rockies every weekend and when the roads are slick enough and you're not in 4x4 the exhaust brake can cause your rear wheels to slide. 95% of the time there is enough traction for this not to happen.
@Jon-O.
@Jon-O. 3 жыл бұрын
@@briang7870 is it the weight shift maybe be why it’s happening because with my 6spd manual with exhaust brake in full manual mode. I skip a gear downshifting like from 6th to 4th you can see the nose of the truck dive without touching the brakes for my 17 2500.
@briang7870
@briang7870 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jon-O. possibly with yours but when it's extremely icy there isn't enough traction for the nose to dive it will just cause a skid with rear tires and it happens without any notice and you have to react fast.
@Jon-O.
@Jon-O. 3 жыл бұрын
@@briang7870 theres only one glaring problem the exhaust break has no relevance on wheel motion stoppage only the hydraulic brake system pinches rotors on the wheels forcing wheels from turning I’ve have stopped on a road with black ice about a two percent grade down from 60 mph to zero no sliding at all and a very short distance. Just to give you a idea of how bad it was. The ice was so slick that the truck after stopping gently slid to the edge of the road until it stopped when the tires hit the gravel on the side of the road. Just because of the road crown.

Using a J break, or your engine brake actually creates more wear and tear on your pistons your rings and the lower part of your engine. That’s common sense. You’re making those parts move more under pressure. And the reason why turbos are blowing is because they’re not fully releasing all the exhaust fumes that are in there so therefore your tune is incorrect. Your wastegate is incorrect. You have something incorrect because your turbo shouldn’t do that. You live in cold weather which turbos thrive in cold weather so this shouldn’t be a normal problem. If you don’t mess with the truck from the factory and try and delete all this extra stuff and try and race, these diesel trucks their trucks they’re made to pull they’re not made to roll coal. They’re not meant to be in fast and the furious or Tokyo drift or to go super Fast, you kids nowadays just drive them like y’all are driving a souped up supercar it’s a truck you’re post to drive it like a truck. You use that brake when you’re towing or when you’re in heavy traffic you don’t use it during normal driving all the time the truck was not designed and engineer that way it’s because of what y’all deleted and put on there that’s causing those problems. This is all common sense. I work on fleet 18 wheelers where yes we still refer to him as J brakes where you flip the switch and their 10 times louder and in a lot of sections it says no J breaks allowed from 18 wheelers. That’s not a system you’re supposed to be using all the time you’re having to use it because you’ve deleted stuff you’ve tuned it you’ve messed with the original design of the truck. They don’t put trucks on assembly lines and mass produce some if they’re going to have massive issues constantly. And all you’re doing is shutting off the exhaust fumes going into the turbo because that’s what the turbo takes to create power is the exhaust fumes so you’re just shutting that off which does prolong the turbo but overall this stuff has been engineered by master mechanics way above all of us combined they know what they’re doing and they know you’re deleting them and deleting exhaust systems and turning them and we know you’re driving them incorrectly. That’s why you want it tune that way so you can get more power so you can get the sound out of it it’s not supposed to have all that. if you make a race truck you make a race track your DD should just be a normal vehicle. You’re actually causing more problems for yourself and you’re gonna find that out in the end. And mechanic shops I’m just gonna be straight up we’re gonna sell you whatever you want it’s your money we want it in our pocket. It pays for our family. Gives us a better lifestyle so you want to spend your money. We’re happy to take your money. You want to put a loud annoying stupid exhaust on there, you want to put an air intake where you have a funnel under the engine and not inside the canister it originally came with you’re not gonna get extra horsepower. You’re sucking in hot air they don’t work they don’t add anything to it. We are happy to sell you snake oil and put it on in a heartbeat. It’s just money in our pockets it easy because yeah think it’s a trend you think it’s gonna make a difference you think you feel a difference just because it’s louder, it feels like it has more power and in reality it doesn’t you’ve actually lost power . You get more power when you tune from the air. Original box was just a upgraded filter. You don’t have to go all cone shaped and crazy. You can get the standard shade cannon and make sure it’s completely sealed. That’s the best cold air you’re gonna get in your car. And leaving your exhaust completely alone is going to make your vehicle last longer. Trying to remove things put bigger pipes on their role cold is that in the other I mean first of new people that are rolling coal on other people. Why don’t you go to certain neighborhoods and do that and see what happens do you think it’s funny some mom walking her kid or walking her dog or some lady and you roll: them or some high school kids do you think that’s funny. There’s half the populations that wish they can get their hands on you for doing shit like that it’s inappropriate and you’re screwing the environment for everybody. I mean what’s wrong with you. do you want to complain about gun laws and taxes in this that and the other one then you’re breaking all the rules yourself and if it’s not a rule in your state, it’s a rule of society you’re just putting maximum amount of pollution in the air for absolutely no reason, but your own amateur entertainment videos like this shouldn’t even be allowed on KZbin. This is too much and all you’ve done is Mansplaining the whole video. Everybody wants to be a KZbinr. You know you gotta state with the problem is how to fix it and show how to do it. You don’t have to main Splaine how every single thing around it works. It doesn’t matter it only matters what you’re working on. And there’s some fantastic mechanics out there that have fantastic, KZbin channels like Scotty he’s going to tell you the truth, Chris he’s going to tell you the truth he doesn’t manaplain things to you. He tells you the exact same thing I’m telling you. i’ve built so many race, cars, and every time you put a part on you tune it every single time if you find something wrong with it, you fix it, you tune it you spend more money tune in that car then you do bolting on parts. And if you don’t know how to read the live data what to select then you shouldn’t be messing with a motor at all. If you can’t take apart a motor do a head gasket job put it on time take your transmission off rebuild a transmission you shouldn’t be doing any work. Do you want to pay to have somebody do it whatever that’s fine, but if you’re going to try to make something loud fast and actually worthwhile then you Gotta know how to do it yourself and you got to do the work yourself. Just buying a diesel programmer and going through it is the easiest thing in the world. Buying parts bolting them on taking parts off bypassing things that’s a total waste of our abilities. We build high and high output cars. We also service fleet 18 wheelers. I’ve seen more stuff and forgotten more stuff than you will ever learn in your life. I’ve been doing this so long and so I have all those other guys that I explain they may not stand up and say the same thing but I guarantee you I’ll get a phone call from them and they’re going to tell me the same thing. Thank God somebody finally said something to these kids this rolling call deleting all the exhaust, putting these tuners on these diesels it’s a total waste of your money. And when the EPA comes down on all 50 states which is coming pretty soon, it’s going to be backdated to a certain date it’s not gonna be O in 2025 you have to pass emissions know it’s going to be from 2020 or even earlier. And then you’re going to be scrambling to get the exhaust put back on correctly and you’re going to find out you can’t buy used because everybody else is doing the same thing because they did this and it’s stupid so now you gotta buy brand new parts
