The ads look a bit goofy, but I really really liked Upgrade so I was always gonna be interested in Whannel’s next project regardless. Also, I remember laughing hysterically throughout the trailer for Don’t Breathe before seeing the film and being really into it. I think certain movies are just really difficult to sell through short form soundbites removed from context, but giving too much context can give the whole thing away. There are a lot of really poorly edited trailers today, but there are also a lot of cases where after seeing a full film I don’t envy whoever had to cut a preview for it.

A lot of film channels make film feel really inaccessible, YMS for example, while I do enjoy his work he makes a lot of film feel inaccessible bc of they way he talks about it. Ryan makes it feel so accessible and safe and also acknowledges when something is more complicated and/or pretentious than what the average audience may be used to and also very much gives an air of "I know this thing isnt for everyone, I'm just talking about it because i enjoy it/found something worth talking about in it"

I couldn’t believe Upgrade was made for only $3 million. Looking back, there’s nothing that would be too crazy expensive, but the action is just so well done that it doesn’t feel like you’re watching something on a budget. With the premise and setting it could’ve easily ballooned into this overblown cyberpunk epic that was trying to do more than its budget would allow, but he knew how to keep it small scale enough that it just feels really polished and professional and most importantly engaging. Probably took some notes from his involvement with the first Saw on how to make a movie on a budget.

I just saw this and it was fantastic! One of the best horror/thrillers I've seen in years! Amazing perfomances for Cecilias actress and Griffins. To me there was something haunting about Griffins lab in the film. In addition to the creepy voyeuristic implications of the suit, it felt almost taboo, a veritable Pandoras Box of tech ripe for abusing. I left wondering how many suits he actually had and whether or not he had other labs and other people under his thrall. The fact that stealth suit technology is likely being researched as we speak only makes it more frightening to think about.

I rewatched it a couple of days ago and I was genuinely surprised to see Blumhouse's logo in the opening of the film. To be honest they've done a few good films in the past. It's not a horror film but they did do BlacKkKlansman. They also did the 2018 Halloween reboot/sequel. The Purge wasn't a bad film. Split was a surprisingly decent M Night Shyamalan film. They also did Get Out which is a great film as well. So despite shit like Insidious and it's sequels as well as Truth or Dare and Unfriended Dark Web, they've released some pretty damn good stuff.

To be honest, I think a mistake with this film is with its name. Instead of calling it the Invisible Man, they could of just called it something else. I know that the directors had to make reboot of the Invisible Man but it sort of resembles it own thing. In fact I would argue that the movie Hollow Man was more of a direct reboot/remake of the original man than this movie. Apart of the invisibility element, it does sound like that the film stands out as it own idea rather than being just reboot of the invisible man.

Leigh Whannel is such an interesting creator to follow. He's not some instant virtuoso that exploded onto the scene. Despite the Hollywood fairytale of his first film spawning a huge franchise on a shoestring budget, James Wan got a lot of the attention that followed. And when Whannel stepped into directing, his work had some noticeable flaws. But he's shown consistent growth. Everything he is critiqued on, he improves in his next venture. I really respect it. He may not be a savant, but the ability to improve on your shortcomings, make consistent growth by taking criticism: that's one of the best skills a creator can have.

When I found out this was a Blumhouse movie, I assumed it was going to be a shitty jumpscare fest, but the movie is an amazing psychological sci-fi thriller and I loved watching it. The whole first half I was wondering if PTSD had her imagining things and that the audience was seeing through her paranoid eyes. Then when she throws the paint and we finally get confirmation that she was RIGHT, I about lost my shit. Don't even get me started on the sister throat cut, I was so surprised I remember literally gasping and throwing my hands up. There's a few scenes in this movie that seem to drag on in the beginning when it's establishing the characters, but other than that, it's absolutely phenomenal. I'm sure even if you rewatch this 100 times, you'll never be able to figure out which scenes Adrian were actually in the background of and which were just paranoia.

I was actually excited by the trailers, i thought they gave too much away, and they kinda did, but i was still shocked and tense throughout the entire film. I wholeheartedly believe this is a modern classic

FutureCreator dr.Wu from Jurassic Park is not broke, he just has a small problem on his hands. Also woke is worse than broke.
