I know you touched mostly Syrian genetics, but I wanted to add the biggest issue with campbells & hybrids genetic wise, aside from temperament and diabetes, & glaucoma, would be the breeding of two ruby eyed (not to be confused with red eyed) mottled hamsters. They will be born with no eyes and no teeth, so while Syrians can live life, the dwarfs pass by about 2 weeks of age due to starvation.

RoyaleHamster that’s incorrect. They get separated at about 4 weeks. You split the genders up at that time, then they get separated into their own enclosures between 6-8 weeks. If you leave them all together until they are eight weeks old, you’re going to be having multiple litters on top of what you already have. They can be sexually mature as young as four weeks.
Here's a quick recap for anyone who missed it: *just dont breed your hamsters!* Breeding comes with lots of risks and responsibilities, so if you really want to better the species consider shadowing an already ethical breeder instead. :)

This is important for any animal. I remember when I got my chinchilla, he was alone so I started looking for a friend for him. I checked all the rescues in my area and saw that the animal shelter closest to me had one for adoption, problem is, it was a female. When my sister saw this, she was like "oh you should get her. we could breed them and sell the babies." I told her no, absolutly not. We knew nothing about the care for chinchilla litters and we also didn't know their genetic backgrounds since both would have been adoptions. I was not gonna put the lives of the mother or the babies in jeperdy just because someone thought it was a good idea to sell the babies.

I think this is why, you should always check the signs even for home breeders as I didn’t know. This is so important video, I really hope that people who decide to breed just for cute babies or profit see this. This kind of breeding is also such a big problem in pet budgie communities. I've seen countless comments on videos about how people (mostly kids) ask how can I make my budgies breed or why won't my budgies breed. Their reasoning for breeding is to get cute chicks. That's it. And it always makes me so sad that there are so many irresponsible people who breed. Most of the times, the birds are from pet stores. You don't know their health, history or sometimes even age (also they might be related). I could go on and on about this topic. (Sorry for brining birds into this, but I know if I commented on a bird video about this I would get attacked and I needed to get it out.)

@@Thehamsterperson33375 People (especially kids) just don't want to hear that they shouldn't be breeding their birds. Most of those backyard breeders don't even give their birds the basic care they need. And they get their info from bigger budgie channels that also breed their birds with unknown genetic backgrounds, so they think it's fine.

As a breeder myself I can say that it isn't as easy as especially some children think. I sometimes hear children scream OOOHH I want Baby hamsters!!!!. The problem is that doing this without knowledge is gonna create stress and suffering. In most cases the mother will do just fine. It happens rarely that a mother dies giving birth. It happens more often that a baby dies and that also gives a horrible feeling. Before I became hobby breeder myself I came in contact with some breeders in my country and one of them that had bred Roborovski dwarfs with some kind of neurological problem or brain problem that accurs at some time in their lifes. I had 7 robos that I had from that person and 4 of them died the same way within 1 year or earlier. I guessed it were brain problems because of how the hamster died in my hand. I sudden noticed that she wasn't moving normel. She was making weird moves and shaking her head. I took her out and tried to understand what was going on. Her legs were going completely towards her back. Few seconds laters she seemed to breath different and seconds later she died....... Ofcourse I notified the breeder and explained the problems that I had. Then I realized that she gave me the wrong ages. They were much older then she told me from the beginning. I was very dissapointed but also disgusted by the situation. I don't breed roborovski dwarf, but I breed Winter whites (the species that I know the most about and that I have the most experience with). The difficult thing of winter white is that many aren't 'pure' winterwhites. Some people claim they have pure winter whites, but they lie and some do have pure ones. The most American dwarfhamsters are hybrids. It's clear to see that because of 1. the colour of the fur 2. the face 3. the behavior. Campbell dwarfs tend to be more territorial and Winter whites tend to be more calm is my experience. Both can be tame, but still a campbell van be very territorial when they are in their cage. My own bred winter whites are very calm, have small ears, thick beautiful fur, beautiful clear eyes, they are friendly. I never bred a hamster with problems as cancer, neurological problems, Diabetes, blindness, parkingson, teeth problems, heartproblems, seizures etc. yes all these problems can accur with hamsters. maybe you could talk about Diabetes in hamsters in a next video. There are more and more hamsters that have genetic diabetes because of people that ruine the Campbells/winter whites. Diabetes in hamsters is horrible and very difficult to deal with. I took one Campbell dwarf over from someone else that had genetic diabetes and it was horrible. She was very overweight and she was drinking SOOOO much. I had to clean the cage constantly because otherwise within 2 days there would be molt. She died when she was just 8 months old. I could give her different food but that would get the diabetes under control but that would make her literally die of starvation in the end... I couldn't do that.
@chickenbatnana46004 жыл бұрын
I think she should talk about diabetes in dwarves also. someone in a hamster group im in had a dwarf with diabetes that died at 6 months old. even with feeding specialised food, lots of vet care, the hammy only weighed 30 grams or so in the end when normally it was around 45. its the saddest things for these small babies they almost never live their full lifespan

Last night my hamster was climbing on the mesh on the top of his cage. I don’t know what to do. I’m thinking of upgrading his cage. I found a bin cage with 800 sq inches

It’s so sad when people unethically breed hamsters or don’t know how to take care of pups. I saw a dwarf hamster day 1-30 once and every single pup passed including the father. They got stuck under the wheel and horrible things like that! Thank you for informing people Victoria ♥️ 🐹

So sad :( If they knew basic litter care they could have easier prevented those deaths

My hamster is getting surgery on Monday please pray for her❤️. I'm super scared she might die and any extra prayers or crossed fingers will be nice❤️she unfortunately died during surgery Update:. So she died peacefully. I'm so happy I was able to provide her with the proper care before she went to hammy heaven.❤️

The topic of genetics and breeding ethically is so fascinating, not to mention the huge moral side of caring for the proper lineage and breeding of the species...love it! Wow! I used to have hamsters and follow you, Hopping Hammy, and Erin's Animals. I'm glad you are always trying your very best to educate us on how to properly take care of our hamster. I stopped getting hamsters because I was young and felt guilty when I could not properly provide for them. They are the cutest little things but take a lot of time and care. I appreciate all the work and research you put in to taking care of your fur babies. We need to be educated before buying or adopting our pets. ♥️ Thank you Victoria

I got a 12 inch silent spinner and it’s coming in the mail! I’m also gonna try to save up my money to get a 1000 square inch cage! My cage right now is 741 square inches but I really wanna upgrade! I use sunburst and mazuri rat and mouse because it’s affordable and easy to find. I used to make my own mix but I decided to not anymore because it was very expensive! I have 12 inches of bedding, I also ordered 2 cork logs, and 2 grapevine sticks! I have a female syrian and she’s black and white! Do you have any more tips for me? Like anything I can improve on? Thank you so much!!!

I also got a rabbit and he’s on his way to being free-roamed!!! And I got 2 leopard geckos! Too much in 2 months 😂 Anyways hope you have a good Christmas, Hanaka, or any other holiday you celebrate!
