I know you touched mostly Syrian genetics, but I wanted to add the biggest issue with campbells & hybrids genetic wise, aside from temperament and diabetes, & glaucoma, would be the breeding of two ruby eyed (not to be confused with red eyed) mottled hamsters. They will be born with no eyes and no teeth, so while Syrians can live life, the dwarfs pass by about 2 weeks of age due to starvation.

RoyaleHamster that’s incorrect. They get separated at about 4 weeks. You split the genders up at that time, then they get separated into their own enclosures between 6-8 weeks. If you leave them all together until they are eight weeks old, you’re going to be having multiple litters on top of what you already have. They can be sexually mature as young as four weeks.

This is important for any animal. I remember when I got my chinchilla, he was alone so I started looking for a friend for him. I checked all the rescues in my area and saw that the animal shelter closest to me had one for adoption, problem is, it was a female. When my sister saw this, she was like "oh you should get her. we could breed them and sell the babies." I told her no, absolutly not. We knew nothing about the care for chinchilla litters and we also didn't know their genetic backgrounds since both would have been adoptions. I was not gonna put the lives of the mother or the babies in jeperdy just because someone thought it was a good idea to sell the babies.

This has helped me so much, it has made me understand more about hamsters overall. My hamster that I got that was from a home breeder, passed away sadly yesterday and she only lived for a few months. I think this is why, you should always check the signs even for home breeders as I didn’t know. She was also very scared and skittish as I got her but she was so good and I was so proud of her, it’s just so heartbreaking to lose a best friend that you gained there trust and worked so hard for them to sadly pass away. I know no to be careful even when buying a hamster from a home breeder, as it was very clear this person only bred them for the money. Thanks again for the help 😇

This is so important video, I really hope that people who decide to breed just for cute babies or profit see this. This kind of breeding is also such a big problem in pet budgie communities. I've seen countless comments on videos about how people (mostly kids) ask how can I make my budgies breed or why won't my budgies breed. Their reasoning for breeding is to get cute chicks. That's it. And it always makes me so sad that there are so many irresponsible people who breed. Most of the times, the birds are from pet stores. You don't know their health, history or sometimes even age (also they might be related). I could go on and on about this topic. (Sorry for brining birds into this, but I know if I commented on a bird video about this I would get attacked and I needed to get it out.)

@@Thehamsterperson33375 People (especially kids) just don't want to hear that they shouldn't be breeding their birds. Most of those backyard breeders don't even give their birds the basic care they need. And they get their info from bigger budgie channels that also breed their birds with unknown genetic backgrounds, so they think it's fine.

As a breeder myself I can say that it isn't as easy as especially some children think. I sometimes hear children scream OOOHH I want Baby hamsters!!!!. The problem is that doing this without knowledge is gonna create stress and suffering. In most cases the mother will do just fine. It happens rarely that a mother dies giving birth. It happens more often that a baby dies and that also gives a horrible feeling. Before I became hobby breeder myself I came in contact with some breeders in my country and one of them that had bred Roborovski dwarfs with some kind of neurological problem or brain problem that accurs at some time in their lifes. I had 7 robos that I had from that person and 4 of them died the same way within 1 year or earlier. I guessed it were brain problems because of how the hamster died in my hand. I sudden noticed that she wasn't moving normel. She was making weird moves and shaking her head. I took her out and tried to understand what was going on. Her legs were going completely towards her back. Few seconds laters she seemed to breath different and seconds later she died....... Ofcourse I notified the breeder and explained the problems that I had. Then I realized that she gave me the wrong ages. They were much older then she told me from the beginning. I was very dissapointed but also disgusted by the situation. I don't breed roborovski dwarf, but I breed Winter whites (the species that I know the most about and that I have the most experience with). The difficult thing of winter white is that many aren't 'pure' winterwhites. Some people claim they have pure winter whites, but they lie and some do have pure ones. The most American dwarfhamsters are hybrids. It's clear to see that because of 1. the colour of the fur 2. the face 3. the behavior. Campbell dwarfs tend to be more territorial and Winter whites tend to be more calm is my experience. Both can be tame, but still a campbell van be very territorial when they are in their cage. My own bred winter whites are very calm, have small ears, thick beautiful fur, beautiful clear eyes, they are friendly. I never bred a hamster with problems as cancer, neurological problems, Diabetes, blindness, parkingson, teeth problems, heartproblems, seizures etc. yes all these problems can accur with hamsters. maybe you could talk about Diabetes in hamsters in a next video. There are more and more hamsters that have genetic diabetes because of people that ruine the Campbells/winter whites. Diabetes in hamsters is horrible and very difficult to deal with. I took one Campbell dwarf over from someone else that had genetic diabetes and it was horrible. She was very overweight and she was drinking SOOOO much. I had to clean the cage constantly because otherwise within 2 days there would be molt. She died when she was just 8 months old. I could give her different food but that would get the diabetes under control but that would make her literally die of starvation in the end... I couldn't do that.
@chickenbatnana4600

I think she should talk about diabetes in dwarves also. someone in a hamster group im in had a dwarf with diabetes that died at 6 months old. even with feeding specialised food, lots of vet care, the hammy only weighed 30 grams or so in the end when normally it was around 45. its the saddest things for these small babies they almost never live their full lifespan

A few years ago I had a neighbor that was a hamster breeder. One day I went to her house and I couldn’t believe what was happening. She had more than ten hamsters in small enclosures less than 450 sq inches, and they were VERY small. I didn’t say anything because she was a strict person and would get mad very easily. I asked her if I could see the baby hamsters and she said yes so she took me to her basement and there were more than 40 hamsters. Some of them were dead and some of them didn’t have any eyes. I told her what she was doing didn’t seem right and she quickly kicked me out of her home. I called the cops they showed up but didn’t do anything about it. To this day I’m still very sad for the hamsters.

My sister and I’s hamster’s accidentally mated and had two babies. They did not live In the same cage. One of them escaped and got into my hamsters cage (male) but one sad thing is that my hamster (the dad) died the day the two were born. We kept them both. And if you are wondering why she just had two, it’s because she was an “older” hamster. She wasn’t even a year old. And the babies genders were/are a male and female. The female is still alive and her name is Pineapple! She’s black and white, and sooooo cute!💜💜💜💜

Emma Workowski they haven’t gotten the hamster yet but I’m sure they will cause they know how hard I have worked to learn and how much I want one. I will let you know tho cause I think I’m gonna have to do everything over again. They went to petsmart and thought the pink castle was good because that’s what petsmart said. I then corrected everything on the sheet that was wrong. They r still beginners but if they care for their future hamster they will listen to me

I use sunburst and mazuri rat and mouse because it’s affordable and easy to find. I used to make my own mix but I decided to not anymore because it was very expensive! I have 12 inches of bedding, I also ordered 2 cork logs, and 2 grapevine sticks! I have a female syrian and she’s black and white! Do you have any more tips for me? Like anything I can improve on? OMG IM SO EXCITED IM GETTING AN 800+ SQ INCH CAGE FOR MY NEW BABY TODAY!! (his names Toby and I already love him to death!!) I bought him from a pet store (I know, horrible idea, won't happen again! Gag) 3 days ago for my 21st bday and of course the lady at the pet store gave me ALL the wrong info about care for hamsters and your videos saved my life!! she told me to buy a crap box 200 ish sq inch critter trail cage and I feel so horrible for even buying it now that I've seen your videos but TODAY IM GOING BACK TO UPGRADE/RETURN THE ASS CAGE /o/ and the wheel that came with the cage is WAY too small PLUS IT DOESNT EVEN WORK 😭😭 I'm going to be buying all of the things that will make him happy including a sand box, more hides and some sprays/ hay/herbs to scatter around the cage not to mention LOADS MORE BEDDING :D im SO EXCITED AHHHH again THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH for making these videos youre a life saver!!! I'm going to be building a bin cage for him with the biggest bin I can find!! I made a makeshift play pen out of cardboard to let him run around and he started climbing on me after about 2 hrs of letting him run around/sniff me!! Not sure if you'll see this but I'm very ashamed for not doing research prior to buying Toby. I'm a huge advocate for proper animal care and this is my first time with a hamster, so I appreciate your videos SO MUCH and I can't wait to get Toby all of the things he needs to live a happy, healthy life!!

My sister and parents won't listen to my advice about this,they said that I just watch some yt vid I feel like I know everything (at least I did research),my sister won't buy a bigger wheel and enclosure for her robo and she hates it when I tell her she should buy one because the hamster is bending to be able to spin,I even offer to buy the wheel for her because I really love the hamster and don't want complications,my parents want to breed 2 syrian and 2 robos without knowing the things to do,the syrians are breeding and the robo is 1 female adult and 1 male kid ;-; the Robos ofc are territorial and they hurt each other and my father got mad at the hamster for the territorial animals they are. I am mad at my family and self for not being able to produce all the hamster needs,in the near future I'd like to own hamsters again with proper care.

My hamster « lineage » is sort of complicated. Someone came to a rescue with 64 hamsters since they kept breeding and couldn’t keep up with them. My hamster’s grandma and twenty of her (idk maybe family members) siblings came along to a rescue in my town. But all the females were prégnante and all had about 3-10 babies. Three of which got prégnante since the rescue unfortunately kept the females and males together for too long. And two of the three females passed when giving birth. My hamster’s mom had nine babies and is only a couple of weeks older than them. In the end only some of the hamsters lived since the moms neglected their babies or passed when giving birth. I can’t believe why someone would breed hamsters that much that in the end that family alone had about 80 hamsters (basically all one years old and under). I’m so glad you made a video about this!

I had surprise baby hamsters and though they are healthy and grown now, I don't recommend the experience to anyone at all. If you wanna know what it's like, I'll conclude that every single day is consisted of preparing extra foods for nutrition, making sure that the things inside are baby safe, and constantly researching for the next step of life. When they get bigger you have to observe if any siblings are fighting, their individual behaviours and you keep having to plan on and on for their future. So don't try it for everyone's safety.
