That’s a pretty accurate list. As far as the homelessness I saw in Portland the issue is equivalent -my opinion- I’m curious what Austin metro area does to deal with it, trying not to get too political since I understand this is your business page.

He's right about walkability. I can walk to 4 different grocery stores, but that's purely because I live in a very convenient location. I could try to walk a mile in the other direction and have zero sidewalks. And don't expect people to pay attention to pedestrians either. You're taking your life into your own hands.

the problem with Austin is it's doing everything it can to become the way Portland is in 2024 if you want to move to Austin, move outside of Travis County and commute Austin used to be far safer and more affordable than it is now The only reason to live here is to make money

He's right… DON’T MOVE TO AUSTIN!!! I moved to Austin in 1971 to attend the University of Texas. The city was a paradise. Imagine this: 250,000 population with 50,000 college students and the main employers in the city were the University of Texas and a state government controlled by Democrats. We were the ‘liberal’ oasis inside of conservative Texas. Rents were cheap. I rented my first apartment for $200 per month. There was lots of live music, restaurants, and other fun things to do. People were easy-going, welcoming, and friendly. Traffic was quite reasonable. Rush hour lasted about 30 minutes. You could be the only car on a major thoroughfare. For me it was the perfect city-small enough to get around and escape but big enough to provide everything you needed. Now just the opposite is the case. The population of Austin is pushing 1,000,000 and the entire metro-population is almost 2,500,000. We are still struggling to get by on the road system that was largely in place when I moved here, and all the modern improvements to the road system turn out to be toll roads. We have a continuous rush hour that never stops. It can take hours to get to and from work and going anywhere between 7 o’clock in the morning until about 8 or 9 o’clock at night can be a very aggravating experience. Don’t think that public transportation will offer relief. Expect public transportation to take twice as long because the buses are stuck in the same traffic as the cars and giant ‘man’ trucks. That’s why drivers in Austin drive very aggressively and are angry all the time. Housing is very expensive and continues to go up. My friends that rent are paying $1700 to $1800 per month for one bedroom apartments. Soon their rents will be above $2000 per month. Wages are low. After all, Texas is a ‘right to work’ southern state. If you don’t have an elite high-tech job, expect to live in poverty. Live entertainment still exists but expect to be packed in like sardines and driving for hours in heavy traffic to get there and later to escape. Austin’s ‘liberality’ is eroding in a very hateful and draconian state. So, don’t expect to be welcomed if you move here. People trapped in a city that doesn’t work for them with no relief in sight resent the people that move here and just make things worse.

Seattle’s property tax rate is around 1%. I am in a suburb where the rate is 0.95%. Say I have 600K house and pay $500 for the propery tax every month. If I plan to buy a same price house in Austin and if the tax rate is 2.5% I would have to add $750 from my current mortgage. 😢 Seattle also doesn’t have income tax… but you can get a better house in Texas. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not trying to be political, but do people really want to be like other blue cities?

1. Austin is a liberal shithole, which is one reason it's expensive. 2. High property taxes. 3. TOLL ROADS! Can cost you $1500/yr. 4. Hot miserable summers so plan on buying a second property in Southern Colorado for a summer getaway.

Gotta love youtube fortune tellers like this guy, all he needs now is some taro cards. No one is "leaving in droves" as this guy suggests. Population in Austin Metro has consistently added 2-4% total residents per year. In 2021, The population of the Austin Metro area was 2,117,000. In 2022, Austin Metro added 59K residents for a total of 2,176,000. In 2023, Austin Metro added another 52K residents, increasing that total to 2,228,000. The current population in 2024 is 2,274,000, which is another 44K residents. Realtors like this guy are a dime a dozen. They don't care what they tell people as long as someone is lining their pockets
