I thought it was odd that your output shaft only had ball bearings, my 04 wrx trans had tapered roller bearings on it. That's why this happened; the ball bearing couldn't handle the thrust loads and failed causing the rest to fail. I think a good lesson from this might be to run a phase 2 5mt if one wants to do the conversion.

Yea, I’m from Washington so that’s what I’m used to seeing 1st gens go for. One popped up on Craigslist out here in MN last year that was prettty minty, but not even the turbo and they were asking $4500 with 170k Single owner though. Old grandma

Huh the Subaru rear diff isn’t meant to have all that power? Who would have thought. 😂 My first thought with a Subaru rwd swap was to swap in r200 parts with custom axels but what do I know 🤷‍♂️

Why would you want custom axles when you can use 350z axles? The amount of information a available about RWD Subaru’s when I built that car was so small. I did the build series to help get info more accessible. It’s nice to see that people are starting to know about RWD subies now.

Tire sealant is crap. I carry a plug kit, pliers, spray bottle of soapy water, and a 12v air compressor. You either fix it with that or put on the spare.

Would a TL701VD90A bolt up to your motor? If so wouldnt that make a rwd conversion easier, im sure you would need a custom drive shaft and maybe a different differential

I have been thinking about picking up a 2005ish subaru legacy GT and performing this conversion. Have you ever tried putting the front CV axles back in with the welded centre diff? I live in canada so I would want to switch back and forth every 6 months

You should never fix a flat a tire that has tpms in it. It will completely clog them up and break the sensors requiring them to be replaced. Hope you didn't have to use if you have tpms

@Antonio Cordova Yo sorry to dig up such an old comment but I think this dude was talking about using fix-a-flat. That shit ruins senors because it gunks them up and introduces liquid to an electronic component. Also it doesn't even work 90% of the time. I work at a discount tire and people come in all the time with tires full of the stuff. Repairing those tires are a pain with all the mess they make and they complain when we tell them that their sensor died because they put fix-a-flat in there.

Inflating tires more does improve fuel economy. You have less frictions between the tires and the road, decreasing the load by a bit thus giving you better fuel economy

That looks almost like my 98! Mines an auto though! A guy in our town has a manual, and told me that the RED ones are pretty rare. Do you know anything about that? He also said that the rear windows are hard to come by, so don't break it!

@@davidregan9872 Hopefully not, maybe it's just sleeping for the winter. I pulled the 2.5 outta mine for a built 2.2 with 2.0 heads. Haven't installed it yet, finishing touches. Another way to enjoy boost, pre-99 ej22 bottom end in between the 25D heads makes for a great budget turbo motor. I had one that saw 18 psi daily, pretty good for all stock components!

David Stevenson how much money? Dirt cheap means it's not a lot of money. If you like the engineering of a flat engine and you know every in and out of your Subaru and have a yard available with plenty of subarus, why not stick with the car you already know and try and learn some things? Too many people think knowledge is static. Part of the enjoyment of building these cars is how much you can learn. Your attitude is the reason things don't get invented. You're just a basic consumer. Go sign some papers and give a dealership your money. You don't get it.

Some guy did it in a Forester, but there was major modification involved including cutting and welding the bellhousing to relocate the starter.

@@Dirtcheapdaily fly out drive back dont give up. A few hours with a drill press some plate steel aluminum and longer trans shell bolts you can build a sandwich plate the hold the trans from blowing up thats the cheap fix work great
