Don't fall for that!

The idea of a brand thinking that blacklisting Crinacle would be a good idea is hilarious. So you want to remove your products from review by one of if not THE most comprehensive reviewers on the planet? So you want to ensure that he's not going to cover any potentially good products you make in the future? So you want to make sure that all of the many thousands of people who turn to his site and forum pages won't see your products at all. By pulling support you are removing your products from public spotlight. Good job, you just detracted heavily from any potential marketing his reviews could have done for you in the future.

@@michaelmacvittie6977 What I'm saying is that I feel like he got half of the formula "right". Part 1 is acknowledging bias / conflicts of interest, and 2 is mitigating those. Simply stating that something doesn't affect your opinion does not make that the case. If I were to start a YT channel myself, I would probably take after Linus' approach to sponsors: prefer sponsors that are completely unrelated to the content in question, OR make a clear distinction between a "sponsored showcase" (which is more akin to an ad) and a "review" (where the product in question is purchased by them). Although I personally agree with Linus' approach, I understand that this is still a hotly debated topic. It's also worth noting that while I have thoughts on the topic myself, I'm not exactly an expert myself; I'm just a random dude on the internet.

Here is how I see it. A YT review channel knows their most valuable asset is their audience, that is what gives them value in the eyes of manufacturers. This value only persists if the audience have trust in the honesty of reviews. The only "problem" I can see arising is that there is probably a difference between the experience of using a product that you paid 300 USD for, and having it given to you for "free" (It is not for free, because the YTer has to spend X amount of hours on the video) But seeing as we are influenced by things like sunk cost fallacy and those things, I tend to believe that a "free" product gets a more fair treatment and avoids the emotional pressure to experience it as being better than it is. Just look at monster cable OFC pure copper snakeoil products

The main reason I trust Crinacle's reviews is because his tuning preferences largely mirror my own, though his ability to tolerate treble is still greater than my own, so the availability of graphs to further refine things is much appreciated. My most recent experience of purchasing largely due to graphs was the AKG K371, which he ranks as B on his comparison chart. I think that is a pretty fair assessment for the majority of people, as the treble does die off just a little bit prematurely unless you're treble sensitive like I am, in which case it's perfectly fine. You can't always buy based on graphs, because sometimes things end up sounding a bit different compared to how they graph, either due to your ears being weird or because the unit used to graph on isn't ideally suited for a particular unit. For example, particular headphones with giant ear cups can prove difficult to get a seal on freestanding ear analogues and require a full HATS unit to get situated properly. But, for the vast majority of people whose hearing is about average, the ear analogue testers are perfectly adequate as guidance for how something will sound. And, in my case, the Harmon tuning guide is well suited for gauging the maximum amount of treble that I can tolerate in a set. As such, the fact that this and other similar tuning guides are his preference make it quite easy to utilize Crin's reviews and grading to select earphones and headphones to listen to.
@totempolejoe12 жыл бұрын
One hypothetical issue with review units that I'm surprised you didn't touch upon is the idea that such units will be "bespoke" or otherwise gussied up by the manufacturers to be the best possible representations of their products. If I was a hardware manufacturer sending out review units, I would understandably feel compelled to make sure that those review units aren't hampered by obvious QC issues or other errors. But shadier companies may send out review units that either don't represent the product sold to consumers at all or are a front for an outright scam. Buying the unit "off the shelf" so to speak with one's own money bypasses this problem entirely--however, as you point out, not everybody has the money or the free time to do this. It works better for some things than others, too: TheReportOfTheWeek can readily pay for fast food items to review because they're fairly affordable, but someone reviewing newly released cars would need to either be obscenely wealthy or use review units. I'd say someone in your position needs review units not just because of the costs involved otherwise but because the extremely competitive market segment means tons of new products come out every year.

Say I buy a Hiby source. I want easy, preset sound settings optimizing the acoustic synergy between the DAP source and whatever IEMs I possess. Unitless, z=(optimal IEMs)(optimal tuning) for a given DAP that's gone through its own tuning against my IEM(s). The end GUI is a list in the DAP's online user's manual of IEMs and you tap your IEM to activate the tuning algorithm, optimizing the settings of my DAP with my IEMs. Sort this out and I'll forever trust you.

You're right Crin when you say the key is to be objective when reviewing. However, what users want - whether they admit it or not- is subjectivity, especially if it lines up with the subjective opinion of a reviewer. Unfortunately, as much as reviewers of any product want to be objective, the question that shatters that notion, especially with headphones/IEMs, is: "How do they sound?" This is the so-called "money shot" in this industry. That's what people want to know. And if what you think aligns with what someone else thinks, great. If not, inevitable destruction and dispair will ensue. Trust me, this is more of how our society is than some mindless preferences and differences in sound.

This is the first clip of your's that i see. I don't know what your content and if you are a person with bad interest for the viewer or good one. But, from my pov, you shouldn't use at any phrase in my opinion or anything else. Also, you don't need to make minutes of disclaimer... You can use 2-3 sec at top, with text that say what butterflies need to know. I don't like and also don't watch people that repeat more than twice a thing that's almost useless in that repetition, but doing for "legal" reasons, meaning they are forced by the law to say it otherwise the same buterflies from above can claim w/e bs they think. Regarding colaborations, as long you are honest (in your opinion ofc .😀 ) and also admit when things goes south then ppl should understand. The best example now is with big youtubers that were promoting _Established Titles_, are facing an alleged scam. Should they be doing a proper bg check, yes, should they be also human? Also, yes. This is when you do hundred of things and you also don't have time to bg check 100h of each individual bussiness offer you get. That means, we as humans we have this moments too, when we fail to see the truth behind. So, at the end, if we admit that we were wrong, it should be fine. BUUUT... not regarding big and offending scams. Like, crypto ponzi scams, or just ponzy schemes where all thing are hidden and all other overhyped things that are more complex than nasa data sheets. You understand wt i mean. At the end, people should have their brain on and also active will all neurons. We make the final decision and if we make it 100% biased, then more than 80-90% is the buyers fault. So many times the bad things are seeing from the title, or maybe from the too real to be truth promises and that's a frist glimpse of the potential scam. You also should have the power to say a product is bad, even if you have a long time colaboration... no matter what. If you find flaws in that product you must be able to say about them. I understand that you might not need to over hype that, but you must address it. And if the company is a good one will understand that, assume that fault and repair it as soon as they can. No matter the contract. You are a youtuber not their employee. Period. And as you already said, if that product / service is proved to be bad at some later point from who knows what, or unf. a scam... so be it. You can't go back and next time will pay more and more attention. That how things goes in life. I remember PewDiePie having some issues with his collabs at some time, also doing bad things in other ppl opinion, he addressed them, said sorry and moved on. But he also didn't scammed anyone (from my knowledge), otherwise he wouldn't be here as he is. Right? Now i go to watch some of your videos 😁 Cheers!
