We car camped here based on your recommendation and absolutely LOVED the experience. We ended up extending our stay at the campground longer than we originally planned because we were enjoying ourselves so much and saving so much money! Now, we're planning a trip to Oahu and are looking for a similar camping experience there. Do you know of any similar campgrounds on Oahu?

Stayed 2 days in tentalow #1 last weekend, the 1st night was INSANELY windy and woke me up most of the night (even with earplugs) , but the 2nd night was amazing and clear starry nights. The only thing that bothered us a little was the shower, it was either fully cold or scalding hot with no middle of the road. We will go back!

haha, yes, that wind in Olowalu can get bad. The worst reviews for Camp Olowalu used to be their dirt lot in a wind storm, hence they put gravel down during the remodel. Still a wonderful place for the price (Maui prices of course).

@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide it was overall a really lovely place in a perfect location! I actually booked the place based on your video so I really thank you for the help! ☺️

Hey there... we stayed in the tentalows 5 years ago on our honeymoon trip, and now i see they have added family tentalows which is good because we're coming back with kids. What we didn't do is stay overnight in Hana and this time we're planning to do that. I'd love to hear about the cabins on the state park.

check out our video on the cabins here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXyQn2OQYs-Fbsk and see this article for more info on lodging in Hana: thehawaiivacationguide.com/where-to-stay-in-hana-maui-for-one-night/

@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide Thank you! It really helps to see how the beds are set up, we're going to travel with 3 teens so everyone getting their own bed really helps avoid a lit of conflict and when lodging says sleeps 5 or 6 you don't always get that. Nobody is happy when 2 teens have to share a double bed lol! Have you done a video comparing the horseback tours on Maui?

I had never heard the term 'glamping' until today, watching these clips. I moved to Maui from Los Angeles in 1990 and lived there through 1994. I drove past Oluwalu many times, my job picking up tourists and taking them to the top of Haleakula. I had no idea that place was there. Lord willing, one day I will move back to Maui and I hope to be able to afford to experience glamping. Thank you for your wonderful & informative vlogs. John, (Las Vegas)

What a cool job, John! If you do make it back here, the glamping experience was really cool. They also have tent camping! All right near that beautiful beach :)

@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide I have actually camped at Kipahulu, (7 sacred pools), nearly a dozen times back in the nineties. The job I had was with 'Maui Downhill', one of those bicycle tour companies that would take people to the top of the mountain (before the sun arose) and they would ride the bicycles down. Back then we started the bike ride at the 9,741 elevation level. Now, I hear they start the bike ride around the 6 or 7000' level.
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnO318 Those bike tours are insane and I can see why they are popular. I'm glad you survived all those trips. We are planning on camping at Kipahulu the moment it opens again! We can't wait.

@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide Camping in Kipahulu is on my bucket list FOR SURE!! Unfortunately, currently, (I've heard) that swimming in the pools over there is up to how the rangers feel about it at the time. I have seen the water level there too dangerous to get in before, but most times very safe. I have jumped off of the bridge there into the water below about 50 times during my numerous experiences camping there. LOVE IT!!! Also, have you heard of 'Venus pools'? It's somewhere on the road to Hana. I've never been there, but have seen yt clips. It looks so amazing!!!
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnO318 The water level was perfect when we drove by the pools two weeks ago, now we need them to open to visitors again. I have not heard of the Venus Pools but will check them out. Probably one of those places that gets dicey.

Looks very nice! I've just reserved a tent spot for 8 nights in December, and will bring all my gear with me. As for getting around the island, I'll just make do with the bus system. Rental cars are incredibly expensive at the moment......
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide3 жыл бұрын
yes they are! you could try a moped as it won't be too bad to get around West Maui with a moped.

Do you guys have a specific snorkeling equipment you recommend?
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide3 жыл бұрын
We like to recommend renting or using the resort gear when on the island as it is easier than brining your own over. They rent good equipment and ask them to help fit it for you. If you are in need of your own, check out the Cressi Adult Light Weight Premium Travel Snorkel set. It is a great travel snorkel set.

Thank you for such informative video. I'm renting a camper for my upcoming trip to Maui, do you know if I need a camping permit? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide Жыл бұрын
you will need a camping reservation/permit to stay at the national, state, and county campsites. they sell out fast. for beach or roadside camping, you don't need a permit at this time.

What do I need to bring with me for camping in a tentalow? Is it easy to get a propane grill? Do we need to bring our own propane? Is there drinking water?
@TheHawaiiVacationGuide4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions! The campground was full when we were there and it was not hard to get access to the propane grills. The grills and propane are provided. There is drinking water in the tentalows from the tap which was delicious. You don't need to bring anything special, like camping equipment, for staying in a tentalow. They provide linens, towels, lights, and other hotel-like comforts. I hope that helps and let me know if you have more questions. Thanks, Jordan
