He is just repeating what he seen online. A 2004 VW golf 2.0 make 115 hp stock. You can get this engine to 165 hp with bigger cam and stock compression.

NA > Turbo any day. You don't need big HP and torque numbers to have fun. Also, the snappy throttle response of the NA is unique.

They all have their place. What are your thoughts on air cooled vs water cooled NA engines? Air cooled engines can be pretty lightweight.

I disagree with you if you're talking in a general sense. Not all 4-cylinder engines are built a like. Some engines are easy to boost like the mazda miata B6ZE(RS), or the Mitsubitshi 4G6/4D6 which can come as naturally aspirated or turbocharged from factory. What you said there could be easly misleading, just my thoughts.

thanks for the reality check i guess, I was thinking about building my rover k series, but now i think i'll just add forged pistons, shorter rods and the entire turbo system from a junkyard rover and slap a T25 garrett on there with like 5psi of boost... or, y'know, sell it, get a civic and tune that since it's cheaper haha

My original "script" would have been 20 minutes going into every system I talked about and as you pointed out I missed a lot as I pointed out too. And I'm not saying I left out details that you have experience with, haha I was eating boogers in 96'). I'd like to get your take on the next video of my opinion on why you Will indeed build a 4 cyl NA. The framework of this 'You Won't' video is you want your car to go fast like most 16-20's car kids, the framework of the next video is: we'll just have to find out ;)

Lol you are way off.. honda boys been building N/A 350-400hp motors for years. And you don't have to run more then 8,000RPM
@MegaMechatronics2 жыл бұрын
Some car guys don't blink when they spend $10k, this doesn't mean it's a good value when you can get the same output for half the cost with way less effort. What's cool and effective is a high output NA engine no doubt, but physics is physics. And if you break a 350 hp N/A 4 banger, it's going to cost thousands again and many hours of labor. If you blow a turbo'd motor, at the least it's going to cost you a new-to-you junk yard motor, no need to open up the bottom end (like to check/file ring gaps). I've checked ring gaps 2 too many times and found used ecotec engines inherently have larger ring gaps due to a larger cylinder bore diameters, which I reckon is the case with all piston engines.
@joelstatosky18173 жыл бұрын
To sum it up the cost for the power isn't worth it like it is with a properly built turbo set up. Na is more reliable but reliability isn't cheap. When you get that $6000 dry sump just because you want a 25% boost you will relies that the reliability usually isn't worth it unless you are rich.

😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣 You just described my build at the moment. I'm building a 4 cyl motorcycle engine, and I am encountering pretty much all of these issues. The project is really cool, but it is difficult and the costs are mounting. I'm having to research so many new things which is cool because I am learning a ton, but I'm definitely realizing that this is a very involved process. I'm definitely glad that the outcome will be way awesome and that this is mostly a learning project for me as I am currently in school for working on bikes.

I got 25% power gain and 40nm more torque for 2.5k hes being unrealistic no N/A owner would never dream of making 50% more power, most owners would be lucky to squeeze an extra 20bhp from their motor.
@randonauticanz40783 жыл бұрын
Mate you're scaring people 50% gain on a naturally aspirated engine is a ridiculous target, I have a 2L N/A engine I gained 25% bhp and 40nm of torque my car weighs 980kg I've doubled my nm per liter by 100% it ended up costing around 2.5k what your talking about would cost over 12k, there are grey areas, try gaining 50% on a 400bhp evo see how much that would cost I guarantee the evo owner would stick at 400bhp.
@adamammar71023 жыл бұрын
How did you do so with only 2.5k could You list it out ? I’m working on a 2.0l Kia Forte NA looking to do sum damage on this one thanks!
@verigone26772 жыл бұрын
@@adamammar7102 If you can weld and know how to tear down and engine yourself, you can save about $5K from what it would cost to buy all of the metal work and pay someone else to buy and install your parts. If he has to list it for you to understand why it costs that much then the list won't help you at all. It goes something like this: 10Ft of 3" Stainless tube, 20' of 3" Tube various Mandrel bends or another 20' of straight tube if you have a proper bender, new fuel system parts and a micro squirt, throttle body(ies), TPS, MAP and other sensors. You shouldn't need an upgraded oil pump gear until well after you see other oil pressure problems in that engine that aren't solvable for less than 3K. Plain and simple, I am in the same boat as you, Veloster non-Turbo, Step 1: Intake, Throttle body from an Elantra Turbo, Cat back exhaust...let it breathe. Step 2 - Valve springs, Pistons, Rods, Bearing Sleeves, crank caps, etc - See KDM Tuners they have the best kit and probably already fully configured for your car. If you do not like the price, look at what they are trying to do and see if you can find those parts cheaper. Also, if you do Step 2, tune only to consistent smooth running do not tune for power until you update your Clutch/DCT Converter-Clutch assembly. Step 3 is port, polish, ECU, bananas power gains and MANY smoked transmissions...basically, beyond Stage 2 you need to be looking to lighten the car, take the suspension to the next level, and improve Aero as those gains can only improve the car without risk of making it unstable. If you want to get to the same power level faster and with a little less to build up, throw a small turbo with a piggy back ecu and a small intercooler, but you still have to change the pistons to lower compression and you should update fuel delivery, lifter springs, and oil temperature monitoring.
@migguru5624 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm confused too on why you say "you won't tune"!!! You can tune any engine and depending on what spec you're looking for you can change one or all of components including modification to the head, block,ect... oh and solid lifters is an option too. With that said, your information is correct. Please change the title! Because people have and will tune their 4 cylinder N/A engines
