@@MattCatt09 Ehm, I am not in the climate crisis crowd, but just someone who had 3 semesters of biology. Plants also die with increased co2 levels. A 25% increase would kill almost all plants on earth. Of course during day light they would thrive (that is only the half truth, because plants evolved to our current athmosphere and with a 35% increased co2 they would bank down from 60% efficiency to 20%), but plants during the night also metabolise their c6h12o6 to basically survive and require heavily oxygenated air in that process. Plants do both, store and breathe out co2. Plants would just die and it does not need to be a climate activist to understand that, any advanced biology book would be enough for that kind of knowledge

The simplest way to survive literally any doomsday scenario is have a few bags of rice, tinned goods and some bottled water, enough for 2 weeks, this is enough time generally for busy areas to quieten down, then what you do is head for smaller stores, farmers markets etc. instead of supermarkets. The initial panic causes up to 75% of all deaths in doomsday/zombie movies, pass that phase and you're in a better survival situation
@yoman50296 ай бұрын
depends on the scenario. if it's a generic zombie virus or something like aerotoxins, then this is a really good option. but if it's something like a nuclear war or an asteroid hitting earth that was strong enough to wipe out dinosaurs, or a super-beefed-up-zombie virus that's able to linger for centuries...yeah, you may as well accept your fate.

The way I'd think of to survive is simple - identify which plants are creating this toxin first. Based on the plant scenes in the movie, I think we can say it's mostly bushes and/or trees doing this. I'm not an expert but have taken a college class in botany. With most plant-life, it's often a particular species and/or subtype of plants that creates different aromatic smells, offense option, and/or defenses. For a very simple example of this - only Female Gingko trees make that smell that 90% of people find gross. The male Gingkos never make that smell. No other tree makes that particular scent either. However, this scent smells good to a lot of bugs (and about 10% of people), which allows the Female Gingko to get itself to be better able to have the Gingko Nuts (with seeds inside) moved by animals. This is also the case on why Red Algae is dangerous to multiple things humans use while most other algae isn't. Most algae is green and can be fed on by all sorts of animals. Red Algae can literally corrode all sorts of stuff (including certain metals). So, if we can have some scientists figure out which plants are doing this, we don't have to destroy all plant-life - we'd just have to destroy the specific plant species that are doing this. Than, humanity can plant new, similar plants to be able to allow for Oxygen creation. We never see a Gingko Tree doing this, but we see a lot of classic green-leaved trees. So - I think we have a few good clues with just that fact. We also see no trees with obvious fruit and/or flowers on them either.

Oh come on! The way they were directed to act was so incredibly goofy that it's become iconic based on that alone. Truly in a "it's so bad, it's good" way. In the hands of good writers, the concept could work. Plants do create toxins etc, and there's a lot that could be done with it in the right hands, but this certainly wasn't well written. Terrible dialogue, storyline, characters - who again, are made even more silly because they were directed to act in such a bizarre way - weak ending, what's to like? There's also the fact that M.night had such promise as a director after "I see dead people" and Signs, but then began making terrible films like this one... it's a goofy movie, but if you like it, then it's okay to like it! You just can't rely deny that it's so silly.

My theory for how it jumped from USA to France is that it takes around 2 weeks up to 35 days on average for air to travel the entire globe. Maybe what ever caused the plants in the USA to start releasing the toxin, took a while to cause the plants in France to mutate. I also think its quite clear that the plants just wanted to thin the human population out enough to give us a chance to reset back down to a manageable population and to overall bring down stuff like our deforestation rates and plant consumption.

As much fun as the review is, and well deserved fun indeed. The scenario is not am impossible one. Plants already have developed in some cases the ability to emit things to ward off or kill predators. The ideal they develop one for humans, who had done massive ecological devastation could happen. Of course to the scale seen here all at once, that is far harder to swallow. If they showed, perhaps a plant somewhere killing someone. Then that plants seeds spread and a time jump later we see a later generation of these things that have drifted now in considerable number into populated areas before sprouting a deadly generation. Every year pushing humans back as they didn't quite understand what was happening. That could actually play more reasonably. So far as plants having intent, that's a bit more subjective. There have been some experiments that are starting to suggest while it's extremely alien to our way of thinking. Plants do perceive stimuli from the world around them and can react to it. More than just light. Some studies are even starting to claim evidence of stress reactions that might be comparable to what we would call pain amongst animals. Of course playing that to an audience when people still mostly think of plants more as inanimate objects they can eat more than anything, will cause confusion at best. Maybe if it had been framed as say, one of those types of trees that are essentially a colony, connected by root structures across entire forests. Then you use this type of tree and say it's spreading the information amongst it's network of hey this gets rid of those damned things that keep killing our trunks and everything else around here. Easier to digest then the ideal they are.. I guess communicating in some silent summit via chemical signals to develop and then deploy the toxin attack? Oh, just want to add, it wasn't love that saved them. The toxin appeared to shut down the part of the brain, as you pointed out, that prevents that little negative voice we have inside that can push us to do horrible things. Essentially they lost the ability to control their reaction to negative emotions. Everyone offed themselves because they suddenly couldn't ignore whatever was in their heads that made them angry at/hate themselves/or just flat be depressed. In that moment, when they rushed out they had let go of all regrets. They were at peace and ready to accept whatever came. So when their brains reacted to the toxin there was no negative emotion to loose control of. This also suggests that the attempt of the toxin is temporary. Otherwise they would have still killed themselves later after their moment of peace had passed. That's my analysis anyways.
