One thing that helps me is isolating each drum sound I want to use for the beat and create each pattern with all the other drums muted. Then I'll invite everything and see how it all sounds and change stuff and subtract if it sounds off or too much. It helps me a lot and you can make unique patterns like that.

Sometimes folks just don’t listen to enough music man as a producer if you listen to a lot of music and by ear pay attention to drum patterns your drums will NEVER be trash because you always have that subconscious feeling of something you heard before and by nature you’re going to want to do something similar.

as experienced producer, I create loops or melodies first before putting any drums in it. so I can identify what kind of drums should be used. that's how you can fit your drums into your loops.
@Dubbudha6 ай бұрын
Regarding "content vs character" there is a great shortcut to exchange your drum sounds within an existing pattern. I think you just have to select your sample you wanna exchange than go to the file browser and press "Alt" while selecting differnt drum sounds. You can also press "Alt" and the down / up arrow to go through different samples.

I've been following along with the free lessons you've been sending thru email.... Very helpful! You use more of a philosophical? approach, and the theory behind a solution to a specific problem, which I find alot of KZbin tutorials don't really do. This way I feel I understand what your teaching at a more fundamental level and can then actually apply it to my own beats when encountering similar issue's... In simpler terms... NAVI = ME MAKE BETTER BEAT

If a melody has content, then you need drums with character. vise versa. This was helpful. I wish there was an episode dedicated to this topic alone with more examples. Content and character.

Quick question: when building your beats, do you separate out each part as its own pattern (like you did in part 1)? So, kicks in one pattern, snares in another, hats in another, fills in another? I haven’t actually tried this, but it seems like a slightly easier WF, especially if you filter out your samples in the channel rack. Answer: looks like you do! That’s pretty cool.
@jonathandoemel27756 ай бұрын
I just realized why I say this: most of my patterns are built off of kits instead of individual samples.

Add some shakers open hats and cymbals in the right place to push and pull the kick into the snare. Then after you've laid down the kick and the snare, mute the kicks and find a good bongo to play a Melody under it and it will really give a good bounce to the drums.

The new guys all sound sanitized and soulless but technically perfect which is good if you want somebody to build your deck on your porch but when somebody is creating art for flawed individuals the art should have little touches of humanity in it.
