I'm totally agree with these points. And I also understood it's because the teaching of English is a business that needs to keep working no matter if the students become fluency or no.

You can say that again. Some institutes keep teaching English to prevent themselves from going out of business. I think the better an institute is, the more discussion exists there.

That was exactly what I was doing with the tv show Friends every time I didn't understand I stoped and look up on the dictionary or something about culture and after which season there wasn't too much to learn I still do this with everything I watch. So it's important to choose something that is enjoyable because it's more active than just watching passively.

I think i found the mixed conditional: "If i was talking to you in a bar, I'm not gonna use SAT words..." I believe it's should be: if i was talking to you..., i wouldn't use... For second clear conditional. And if i had to say what conditionals are mixed it's second with first. I'm sorry if that's not correct, haven't looked up conditionals in a year i think, should take a glance i guess. P.S. definitely won't be interesting to 95% of people reading this, this is why i write it in the end; I don't really remember first conditional, just zeros (miss obvious) second (just fastened to my memory), and third is by lyric from All Too Well - And you said if we had been closer in age maybe it would've been fine. So just excluded the ones i know🤓
@RealLifeEnglish124 күн бұрын
Aww Yeah! I loved that you shared it here with us. Nice catch! That's exactly it. And you gave the correct variant to make it a 2nd type conditional. Zero and 1st type are for real events (that are possible), and 2nd and 3rd are for unreal, imaginary situations. + a mixed type!

In the tedtalk video clip he said: if I was talking to you in the bar, I'm not gonna use sat words... But when say imaginary conditions we use the state verb"were" irrespective of the subjects.. so the sentence should be like this "If I were talking to you in the bar, I'm not gonna....." Am I correct??

Hey there! "were" would be grammatically correct, but 'was' is used all the time in conversational English. Thanks for learning with us! ❤️

A big mistake (in my opinion) is watching videos where only one person is talking. A human listens to just a set of words. When you watch a video where there is some dialogue and you see (hear) some questions and see how answers are built and sent - it is important because.
