Why does my song sound different after export? Why does my song sound bad in my car and other places? Are you struggling to figure out why it doesn't sound the same as in FL Studio (or any DAW)? It's not what you think!
There are several reasons why this can happen. Most people think this is a problem with FL Studio, Ableton, Studio one, Cubase, or whatever DAW you are using, but it's actually not. The solution to this problem is actually quite simple, so In this video, I'll explain the most common reasons why this happens, and how to fix it.
Also, note that there will naturally be differences when listening to monitors vs headphones. The room itself will also make a huge impact, which is why your track will sound different in your car for example.

My track doesn’t sound very bad, but slightly different every time I export it. For example Sometimes some instruments such as vocals are sounding more compressed or there is very little clicks. I do use 3rd party plugins almost on every tracks including the master chain, which works okay while in real-time including Waves and Slate digital, fab filter etc.

(In older releases it selected different modes depending on the bitrate)Variable Bit Rate (VBR) -v VBR ( alias of -V 4 ) ← Fun because it tells Constant bit rate upper... -q n Bitrate is of course the main influence on quality. The higher the bitrate, the higher the quality. But for a given bitrate, we have a choice of algorithms to determine the best scalefactors and Huffman coding (noise shaping). For CBR, ABR and --vbr-old modes, the following table applies -q 0 Use the best algorithms (Best Huffman coding search, full outer loop, and the highest precision of several parameters). -q 1 to -q 4 Similar to -q 0 without the full outer loop and decreasing precision of parameters the further from q0. -q 3 is the default In the doc the lowpass parameter has the long option syntax (meaning it starts with -- instead of only one hypen). To me that states for : these parameters do not necessarily correspond but because I can't find a simple parameter I'll assume this is the one. Part of the doc says you better don't touch this parameter because it is used to trim some data on the high end. Using explicitely this parameter is however a way to set a higher value should the default one be trimming too much. Resampling and filtering: --lowpass Frequency(kHz), lowpass filter cutoff above freq. Range [0.001..50]kHz or [50..50000]Hz I don't know if I understand that one right because the line does not say 17kHz but 17 alone. In the end I guess the range on SoundCloud is 50Hz-17KHz The lower value is by design and the upper one has been set. AFAIK KZbin trims at 16KHZ so they seem to do better on that one. -b is obviously the bitrate.

Thanks for the tips! For anyone this might help, my issue in windows was: 1) Right-click speaker icon and select Open Sound settings 2) Click Sound Control Panel on top-right (under Related Settings) 3) Find the device in use and then click Properties (for me was Realtek(R) Audio on headphones) 4) Go to the Advanced tab, and uncheck the box labeled "Enable audio enhancements". 5) Click Ok. 6) Restart FL studio if open (for some reason because playback wasn't working, I guess because sound settings were changed, but was fine after restart). This fixed everything for me - mix sounded exactly the same in VLC/Audition/WMP as in FL Studio.

Louder does sound better so everyone! . If you listen closly to your mix each individual instrument has its own volume fader. That volume fader will give a sweetspot to each instrument as you turn up or turn down the fader do that to each instrument. I hopes this technique also helps with hearing what you actually hear when u export from your DAW and also if you use headphones keep your phones volume at 12 O Clock. Dial should face straight to to the sky this give you a better reading of loud meter inside your DAW

Do you have a tutorial on how to stop the limiter on the master track from being pushed too hard and causing the 808 to duck when adding in several layers of vocals? I can't seem to prevent it no matter what I do while keeping the vocals at a decent volume, my friend recommended using a soft clipper on default setting instead of a limiter but that caused way too much clipping in the mix and I'm not content with the way it sounds, i just need a way to prevent different areas of my mix from overpowering each other and sucking volume from each other

So I've narrowed it down to knowing that the problem, for me, lies somewhere in fl. I took the same vst plugin (sonixcat: Purity i Suitcase vst) and drum samples and made the same exact patterns seperatly in fl and mixcraft. I exported them out in my 2 daws (fl studio) and (mixcraft) and Mixcraft seems to have a much better sound, both master chains have no effects or limiters (no I didnt leave fl limiter on and NO there is no stock plugin on mixcaft vro shut it) is this explainable?? #mastering #mixingandmastering #flstudio #loudnessinmusic #musicproduction

This is a common problem across many DAWs. The problem is that it's not the sound card settings. It's not the media player settings. In fact in my case, it sounds louder OUTSIDE of my DAW, louder but just crappy. There is still no answer to this problem.

I’m having this issue after leaving the studio . In the studio it sounds amazing but after it’s emailed and I listen to it on my phone, car, it sounds bad and gonna express this to my producer because he goes a wonderful job just something I’ve noticed from our previous work.
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 2 жыл бұрын
It will often sound very differently on a phone and in a car. The phone for example often can't reproduce lower frequencies, and if you listen on earbuds then they don't go as low either, so you'll get less bass and less warmth compared to the studio. A car is also not ideal because you have a confined space, and the speakers are usually not placed optimally. Speakers will typically be down with your feet, and then there's a tweeter which is higher up. Because of that you often end up with lots of high-end and bass, because the bass builds up due to the confined space and the reflective surfaces of the windows, while the mid range is somewhat lost in between. :)

Care to elaborate why 3 months later? Lmao I definitely take your word for it, but my intuition told me I should mix on max volume, assuming that this is probably as close as I will get to knowing whether or not it will be too loud or too quiet when someone on a different set of speakers/headphones plays it at max volume. I hope that made sense, just to be super clear, I'm not challenging what you've said, I just kinda wanna know the reason my intuition to mix at max volume was the wrong intuition
@isaacstephensonpayne9713
@isaacstephensonpayne9713 2 жыл бұрын
@@smellysoysauceI cant give you a 100% scientific answer but mixing on low volumes is recommended by most as it brings out the Mid-range frequencies better. It also has advantages as mixing low lets you hear any parts of the mix that stick out from the rest. However, you should be testing your mix on lots of different volumes to make sure that it sounds good no matter what. Again I'm not an expert but I hope this helps somewhat!

@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 2 жыл бұрын
It is probably the settings in your OS. There can be effects causing it to sound quieter, or the gain is just set lower. When you're using Studio One or any other DAW for that matter, it will use an ASIO driver which allows it direct communication with the sound card, so the levels will be different there than in your OS if your levels are set quieter in the OS, or there are some kind of sound enhancement running in the background for example.

When I export it as a Wave file with 44100/48000 hz and 24 bit or as a video (to an MP4) the song starts to crackle at certain points when playing it in QuickTime Player or the Music app (on a Mac). When I export the song as a Wave file with 44100/48000 hz and 32 bit the song also sounds great in QuickTime Player and the Music app. I was really happy about that but as soon as I uploaded it to TuneCore the sound started to crackle again at the same points it does when exporting it with 24 bit. Extra information; audio setting inside FL Studio: 44100 hz (also tried 48000), buffer length 512 smp (12ms), priority Highest and 512-point sinc. Exporting settings to a Wave file: Full song, Cut remainder, 32Bit float Stereo, Resampling 512-point sinc.

I tried using the limiters gain, i tried maximuses Pre gain, i tried its post gain, i made sure everything was defaulted, i made sure i wasnt clipping wasnt using a limiter while mixing, i even tried rendering the file and manually raised the volume of the wave made it sound worse, idk if its a compression issue a mix issue or what and its driving me nuts and im going to keep trying to get it the way i want it to be 🤦 theres litterally no information on this and i tried alot of shit to get it to be loud. It sounds very very clean with only leveling but mastering seems to not be working for me or its something no one is telling us. I made sure i had good head room before mastering and yet shit is still quiet im bout to the point of giving up lol and post ow volume tracks witch i dont want. I dont see how most people is doing this without a problem getting there beats to be loud as fuck and clean as hell like a crystal. And even when i raise the volume its hitting 0db and after expprt ITS STILL QUIET. WHAT AM I MISSING

What are you using to play back the track in your OS? perhaps the volume slider in the music player itself is set too low? If you drag the track back into FL Studio, what does the waveform look like? If it's peaking at 0 dB and it looks normal then it is surely some setting sin your OS or the music player itself. Perhaps the gain is set too low in the sound mixer in your OS or something.

@@FireWalkMusic idk any of this lol. The levels are set im using fl studio 20's Asio Driver because it it just runs my program way smoother and better. Nothing is low i checked everything the levels are good nothing is clipping and the music player is set to normal, my track is loud waaayy before any type of special audio effects is active witch they never are. I dont use them while mixing at all i dont use special effects at all like the beat is nice and loud very clean but after rendering it even it sounds good when after rendering sometimes but for the most part after the moment i move it to my phone its very low and my volume on my phone is high as well. And the gain is never touched that much to be honest.

Hi, sorry to hear you didn't like the video. Allow me to explain why we did it this way: This channel is all about making short and straight to the point videos. In order to do that we try not to duplicate information in every single video. For example we have a video about how to get the levels right while mixing and a separate video about how to EQ and another one about gain staging and so on. Now, the EQ will of course also affect the sound levels. Should we then also include the EQing in the levels video as well? And the gain staging? If we did that then the video would be 30 minutes instead of 10 minutes. Most people would get angry because they just want to know about the levels, so instead we say that we have separate videos about EQ and Gain Staging. This particular video is about the different causes of poor sound quality. The video explains what usually causes it, and it's rarely the sound settings. In 90% of cases it's the settings in the OS or third party software running in the background, as explained later in the video. Even with the lowest audio settings the sound quality will still be more than good enough when exporting as a WAV file. The reason this was not shown is because this is very rarely the cause of the problem, and previous feedback indicates that people don't like long videos. But then again, you can never please everyone. Beginners will usually always want to know everything very detailed. They usually want to know why you need to do something as well as how. while more advanced users just want to cut to the chase right away and just show how to do a particular thing, because they already know why. If you want to please the beginners, the more advanced users will get annoyed. If you want to please the advanced users the beginner will get annoyed. Either the video is too short or too long, so we always try to find the perfect balance, but I guess we failed this time. :) We have uploaded almost 170 videos in the last 5 years. Countless hours have been spent. Is it really so unforgivable to ask for some support? After all, this channel has a 99,8% like / dislike ratio, so clearly we must be doing something right. Perhaps we could have done better in this case, but hey, nobody is perfect :) Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I'll take this under advisement and try to make the sure the next video includes more info. :)

@@FireWalkMusic i apologize for my outburst. Now that you have explained the situation from the perspective of the content creator; I have begun to grasp the conundrum you experience. To be honest, I work 55-70 hours a week. Although my passion is music, I have very little time to practice my art. Thus; during yet another long work-week, I was frustrated with how little free time I have; (2 hours a day usually). So I wasn't pissed at you nor the quality of your content. I am sure the average viewer can spare 90 seconds and an additional 10 minutes to view various videos on the subject; but this is a luxury I cannot afford; when I saw there was no explanation right away: I felt cheated and decided to leave a comment fueled with disappointment in my own life rather than disappointment with the video. And on that note: thanks for the detailed response and peace

@@poisonedcheeseproductions Totally understandable. I realized early on that most producers just go to KZbin in order to figure something out quickly, and then get back to work, which is why I always try to make videos as short as possible. However, in this case you were probably right. I should have included the info. It's difficult to judge correctly what's too much and too little every time. It also takes a long time to make these videos and I spend basically all my spare time doing it, which means no time for my own music. I should have put the patreon stuff towards the end of the video, as I usually do. Even though this channel only have 86000 followers, we have less than 10 patreons, so this was kind of an experiment. I was hoping that putting it towards the begining of the video would cause more people to see it. I didn't expect it to be so frustrating to some. After reading your comment, I understand that it degrades the quality of the video, which is the last thing I want. I have therefore cut out the patreon stuff using KZbin's built in editor now. I can't do anything about the missing export settings, but at least that "ad" is gone now. :) Again, I totally understand your frustration, and I appreciate honest feedback like this. It will help me make even better content in the future. :)
