Best thing I did to my ED40 was this intake. The noise was a huge bonus but the feel overall was a bit better. I also had both filters, originally had the foam filter but I prefer a cotton filter as foam ones can degrade and sometimes a turbo can munch the foam and we don't want that. There's a difference in sound between them also and I prefer the cotton filter's sound. I've also got the elbow and pipe from Racingline. However, the Forge all in one pipe and elbow is cheaper and better overall, just doesn't look as OEM. But, it will also allow you to fir a DV if you wanted.

Good tips - thanks Josh. Not sure if you know but I have cotton filter with a foam oversock which cleans a lot more easily than cotton but you still have the better filtration of cotton.

Swapped the R600 with a buddy that has an S3 8V and got a CTS Turbo open intake. Best decision ever, the sound is vastly improved. Andrew, whilst you were at it you could've upgraded he elbow hose and turbo inlet pipe, they're both proven to improve the performance and airflow greatly, as well the turbo muffler delete is worth mentioning. I've got a stage 1 GTI 7.5PP, did the pikey R600 last week in 2 stages. First I did the blanking plate/Dremel out intake holes/remove snow guard/Ramair foam filter. When I started the car up and blipped the throttle it appeared to rev up a bit quicker, kind of like a lightened flywheel effect. Took it out for a test drive and can't say I really noticed it was any faster though. I then fitted a turbo elbow and inlet pipe and it's made a big difference, really noticeable. Better throttle response and it definitely pulls harder all the way through the rev range, feels smoother too. All for around £200. I'm aware of confirmation bias with these things but butt dyno says maybe 15-20bhp extra overall, it feels that much improved to me.

Sounds like snake oil to me buddy. Ain't convinced its worthwhile. I'm taking mine to the Ring in 2 weeks for a weeks worth of driving and only thing I'm changing in my Clubsport S is SRF Brake fluid, 15-50 motul oil and taking an extra set of pads to have handy. The only thing I've done otherwise is lithium battery(lost 13kgs), and removed clutch delay valve and clutch spring(big difference). Otherwise new Cup 2's and car should be good to go. 😁
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
How can it be snake oil if it sounds better and there is hard data showing it ingests more air per rpm that the standard airbox? By all means say it's expensive for those gains in your opinion. All your mods are great but I've never boiled my factory fluid or suddenly worn through brake pads, but I've lost power at hot track days before hence why R600 is top of my list.
@stradmanchannel3626 Жыл бұрын
@@volkswizard @volkswizard well all I can say is hard "data" is one thing and feeling it is another so if you think that you can "feel" 5-6 horsepower through your butt then you have a better butt dyno than I have! 😂 Sound improvement was marginal even by your own admission. Moreover if you've never cooked brake fluid in a standard road car on standard brake fluid on track then you haven't been going fast enough! . I guarantee you will absolutely boil your brake fluid and will need a Dot 5 fluid on track if you peddle it properly. And in any case I thought you said you didn't want to break your track "cherry" at the Ring so I have to presume therefore that you are a track newbie and don't appreciate things like the above.. No shame in that but don't start to suggest otherwise. BTW never expect to get the most of any car on track above 30 degrees Celsius. No matter what you throw at it in terms of mods it will usually always pull horsepower due to hear soak all round thankfully we only get a small handful of those days in blighty and Northern Europe..

What do you think of the racingline open air intake? Any negatives? To much conflicting information online - have 7.5 gti pp
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
I didn't even know RL did an open intake. If you look at the RL page where they sell the benefits of R600 (link in vid description), you will quickly work out an open intake with aluminium shielding is never going to work as efficiently as closed intake of PU material. So I think the open intake is for those who care more about noise than actual performance which is fair enough. A lot of mods actually make cars slower (like stiff lowering springs on a typical bumpy UK B road) so I guess they are just responding to demand.
@ap6584 Жыл бұрын
Are you bothered about losing a few bhp for a bit of noise? It would bug me knowing my car was down on power a bit..
@JoeThomasMTC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the replies both! The noise was the main reason for looking into open. Have been looking into stage 2 parts and tune so a slight drop in a hp is still a lot more than standard but the sensible option seems to be the R600. Trouble is any benefits are listed by the companies selling them and negatives are listed by people who don't want to fork out the money lol
@ap6584 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeThomasMTC I have the same car as you on stage 1, did the pikey R600 mods last week, the thing that really made the difference was the turbo elbow in my opinion. I've just done a 500 mile round trip this weekend and throttle response is better and it definitely pulls harder, more difference than I was expecting tbh. I nearly went for the R600 but figured ultimately it's a filter in a plastic box. I do think they look great though and if I wasn't trying to save the pennies on this occasion I would have got one. I remember back in the day taking my 205 1.9 GTI to Demon Tweeks to have a K&N cone filter fitted, on the drive back it was slower than with the standard airbox, which has put me off the open type ever since..

There must be tests out there to confirm the validity of the R600, seeing as they have they have sold 30,000 of them! I haven't seen that. TBH I went off K&N a long time ago due to their over oiled filters that killed MAFs and the 57i intake which sucked hot air in and made the car slower. I'm sure it's fine but the name just has associations with badly modified cars, at least here in the UK.
