I love these guests but the constant contradictions between them is exhausting. Intermittent fasting doesn't cause fat loss? Would love to see the odd "head to head" episode, sure other guests says the opposite
@lvellek9 ай бұрын
I totally agree. I love getting all points of view and remaining agnostic (Steven providing the vessel for the listeners) but at some point it’s just too much. Which ultimately leaves DOAC with no point of view.

"When you account for calories" is what he said. If intermittent fasting helps you cut calories, then by all means do it if you want to lose weight.
@Midgard249 ай бұрын
Came here to say this , like half his episodes contradict the other half so why even watch the show ? DR Fung has plenty of research on why fasting works , plenty of other people have tons research that it does in fact work, personal experience shows it works. Kind of over this channel
@bensonvong9 ай бұрын
Because there is a lot of nuance. Intermittent fasting itself doesn’t not cause fat loss(or at least significantly), it doesn’t break the laws of thermodynamics. However, I did lost a lot of weight myself intermittent fasting. Why? Because while doing intermittent fasting, it helped a lot with my cravings and cut out a lot of my mindless snacking. Remember, fat loss is pretty ‘simple’, eat less move more which everyone knows. The hard part is finding ways to make it easier for you. For some, that might be intermittent fasting. For some, it might be walking. It might be the carnivore diet or weight training or yoga. Which is why there might seem to be contradictions but that is just because people are wired differently. It is like asking ‘how can you make money?’, there is not universal answer that works for everyone. Some people become rich being NBA athlete, but can the ‘average’ person do that? Probably not.

Progressive Overload is very difficult to understand but was explained perfectly here. It is easy to just ''Try this and that'' but you need to have a plan. I do that quite a lot without paying attention and with no overwatchable plan for navigation. You always think that you got things right but you'll never know for sure. As always, super interesting 👍

The fifty workouts idea sounds good, but could with it explained and clarified more. Firstly, is it the exact same workout except for changes in weights, reps and number of reps, like there's not a specific leg day, chest day, core etc? And secondly just to be super clear, when the 50 are done, we revaluate and do another different 50 of the same workout?

Growing just muscles is so wrong. Moving and learning how to move correctly is right way to do muscle growth. If goal is muscle growth then you end up being elder without ability of moving, your heart gives up because you have to move that mass which doesn't have any other purpose than outlook. Only men loves muscles, women loves how you use your body.

Can I build muscle at 62?? I’m skinny fat and training hard and heavy for 5 months I even took 8 week course of steroids (testosterone cyprionate 350mg per week) and only put 6lbs on and now lost it I eat plenty protein so what’s going on is it my age as someone said it is hard to put any muscle on 60 plus?
@truereality849 ай бұрын
It is harder to put on weights and your age, that being said it is definitely doable, especially if you would be taking outside sources of Testosterone, that being said I would recommend you only take physiological doses of testosterone if you are going down that route, and take it with the supervision of a doctor. Ok so if you have been training for only 5 months notice your training, are you getting stronger? Are you able to lift more weight? Or To do more reps? Or to do more sets? Or a combination of those. If so then you are on the right track. Something to keep in mind is that the body will get stronger for a while before seeing significant muscle mass increases, once your body increases quite substantially in its neurological adaptations, it will be forced to put on more muscle to keep increasing your strength, so, like I said, if you are getting stronger, and are able to do more throughout your workouts, it is definitely a good sign. Also be patient, you are over 60 so don’t expect to see the same results as someone who is 20, just stay consistent and make it a lifestyle. If you’re not getting stronger week to week, or are getting weaker, check that your workouts are good (I am assuming they are - remember track your reps and sets week by week, so you can try to beat your lastweek numbers). In the end you might check your bloodwork. Good luck 👍

calorie surplus to gain weight. Calorie deficit to lose weight. To recomp your body and stay the same weight change the percentages of the macro nutrients you're consuming; eg 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fats. Also a pre-requisite for all this to work is to figure out your BMR, find a BMR calculator on google
@JesusRomero19889 ай бұрын
Two things: PLAY THE LONG GAME. You want results that take years. You have been doing nothing for decades. Don’t pretend to get the body you within 1y coz that ain’t gonna happen. Second thing: get your blood check every 3 months if you are on a cycle. It’s like your body passport

Ditch these contradictory internet experts and stick to tried and tested. Lift consistently ( whatever works best for you) Get enough sleep and eat enough calories Take a rest week when you feel burnout Rinse and repeat. This will get you the results that you need. The rest is just noise and distraction. Theres no one size fits all blanket approach to building muscle. Everyone is different and different factors involve muscle building. Fin d out what works best for you and just put in the work. Consistency is key and that's all you need to know. Don't overthink it.

@@Steve24527Yeah, if you listen to the full length Podcast he says that your ability to put on muscle won't change that drastically compared to your 20s. (to an extent) It's just that there are other barriers that can make it more challenging such as energy levels, decreased mobility (less range of motion), bone density etc. I would opt in for muscle functionality and health, but you can definitely gain a few extra pounds once you've identified the problem.
