Silence is truly key. It’s taken me a long, painful time to realize that after all the “talks” I was never being heard fully or understood. Only one viewpoint mattered in the relationship and it wasn’t mine. Being silent has given me strength to move forward and it’s ok that they don’t get to hear about your feelings. They were never listening in the first place!

That’s the absolute turning point, Andrew. When you FINALLY realize this “person” is completely unfixable, and doesn’t have a decent bone in their body. They are 100% your enemy, and have no good side to find, or reason with, at all. Then you can go against your natural communicative, empathic, analytical, “there must be a solution” way, and go SILENT! You must be on-guard AT ALL TIMES with these creatures, which is exhausting and why one must leave. Then you have to pray that they don’t stalk you in your continued silence. Complete nightmare.

Excellent advice! The key thing that broke the 50-year cycle of abuse from my narcissistic mother was my complete silence. Once I knew what she was and that she would never change, I had the "permission" to simply walk away. She was no longer my responsibility. Sadly, I also had to go silent with the legion of flying monkeys she recruited, which included my son and almost 50 members of the extended family. This is the hardest thing one can do - BREAK THIS CYCLE OF ABUSE WITHIN THEIR FAMILIES. I don't see meeting with any of them (my blood relations) again . . . brothers or cousins. If you are not there for the BIG things in someone's life or you sit by and watch someone be taken down without ever speaking a word in their defense . . . then you are not a friend or a loved one; much more like a traitor. This is very TRUE. Your silence and indifference is your power. Need to watch out for the next level of manipulation though because when they see that what they are doing isnt working, they will try something else. You can ignore the gas lighting, the threats, the anger, and the hatred easy enough after awhile. But ignoring the ways they suck you back in is alot harder. This is when they make you feel guilty for how youve treated them because you probably ended up being a real asshole at some point. Or they may offer you complete forgiveness and admit all their wrong doings and promise they will change. They will love bomb you, buy you gifts, compliment you, send you a million text messages saying how much they love you. I fell for it time and time again. Just watch, It doesnt take but a few days and youre back questioning your reality. They know what hurts you the most, and they hang on to it like ammo, and they know when ur vulnerable, and how to lead you into the kill zone. So when he says silence is your power, you need to use that power to get the hell away. It's not just for absorbing the blows, You need to deflect the false sense of hope and love they will promise you, because they dont love you. They feed on you.

I sit in the living room reading a book or listening to music on my iPad with headphones on and it drives him insane..😂. He comes in and offers me a cup of tea, glass of wine or brings me in a plate of food or piece of cake and literally I do nothing for him now. I go up to my bedroom early evening and shut the door and watch a movie or something on KZbin, he’s in the house with his dogs and I leave him to it. I have noticed in the last month or so that my silence is killing him, he’s taken up whistling or playing music on his laptop, both of which he’s never done. His mobile phone is constantly dinging either with texts or WhatsApp from when he gets up until he goes to bed, I’m watching him literally falling apart in front of my eyes. Karma really is a b**ch.

But I'll tell you the one thing, no, two things that's helped me stay quiet most is the realization that #1 THEY. DON'T. CARE. and #2 ANY type of response is supply to them... I don't ever want to give him supply in any way shape or form. Those realizations help the most, but I can't lie--it is the hardest thing in the world for me on the days I feel any anger. I've recently started lifting weights again and that also helps to stay silent whenever I feel angry...***sigh!!!***

Well done, its the lost self of the narc parent or parents that make us a magnet to further abuse,at some point we realise, come into the light and become our own parents,if we are not tought to grow with love and bounderies a sence of self we head for disaster with abuse, healing leads to growing ourselves up with bounderies and independence,no contact is so much easier when loving ourselves, I promise you all that.x

He wont hear u, he won't listen to ur message..he won't even recognize...hes doing it all for fuel.. The narcissist was a "friend" and has bad mouthed me to other friends spreading lies. Unfortunately other friends have distanced themselves from me. I stay away and stay silent. Not from me but one of these days people are going to see the truth (I'm not the only victim) my other friends will be sorry and I will not be able to forgive them. So glad I found your channel. I left my toxic relationship of 15 years (I'm 37) in 2019. We ended up back together in Oct 2020. And it didn't take long for old behaviors to return. The gaslighting, passive aggressiveness, shaming etc. Over the last few months, she was taking things out on me that had nothing to do with me, picking fights, then saying she did nothing wrong. Our last interaction, she was talking to me very rudely. I let her know that and was hit with "No I'm not" and became more upset. Then proceeded to convince me of how wrong I was And said "you clearly must be upset about something" WHAT?!?! So after more gaslighting and now insults and purposely twisting what I was saying, I reacted very poorly. And my reactive abuse was the catalyst to me leaving in 2019. I'd get baited, shamed and pushed to my emotional limits by her. It's been a week now and I've bee staying in a hotel and at the house when she's not there. We have children so that makes it even harder. I'm now being hovered. She said "lets go to therapy and fix it " but I am the one that goes to therapy. And offered couples therapy. I'm just sick of this and I'm so glad to have found your channel

I started going No Contact in 2017 with the family, rounding out with a year single. I even moved without letting anyone know. Waking up to a quiet, drama-free home with a full fridge and money in my bank account feels luxurious and almost decadent. Survivor’s Guilt and Imposter Syndrome is real, and an important stage of healing… and the silence matters to work through those crunchy emotions. No more migraines, no more physical symptoms of chronic stress, and doing the work to heal from adrenal fatigue and cortisol-related weight gain. Thank you for being you Andrew. I've been in this type of relationship for almost 30 years, what brought me to the brink? Money that took me 4 years to save, new bathroom- new kitchen cabinets- new flooring- new windows- these are the things our home needed and I felt so good about contributing towards the reality of making any one of these needed home improvement's possible. It was a bomb going off in my head when I realized that he had spent every last dime on his grandsons and himself without my knowledge or permission. I had done without so much in order to, (at this point in my life) upgrade so as to make life a little easier in my old age. I work my ass off keeping our home beautiful w/limited resources, I've looked forward to not having to work so hard and now that vision is gone--wind let out of my sails. COMPLETELY LET DOWN, and he doesn't seem to care or understand. I've listened to him complain about me spending too much for years. I'm through--put my senior housing application in for Alaska and in a few short months he won't even know what hit him. i AM THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. A while back I watched you for the first time. It was something about when the narcissist realizes what they lost. My relationship with someone like this (I can't really diagnose, but many of the hallmarks are there) was what I thought was a close friendship, not a romantic or familial relationship. I cut ties eight years ago, and the memories of that time are still pretty tough. Anyway, he reached out to me via text out of the blue after eight years of no contact. I responded, then he sent me another text saying he would like to reconnect but would leave next contact up to me. At first glance the texts seemed like he was making amends of some sort, until I realized there was not even a hint of an apology or accountability about what had happened between us. I did not reply. Then I saw your video and thought, hmmm, that feels like what just happened! It made things really clear, and made me really glad I had not engaged further. Then I saw this video about silence being the key, which further validated my decision to stay silent. BUT WAIT, it gets better: mere hours after I watched THIS video, he texted me again! I did read it, and it was total bullshit, of course. "I know I said I would leave contact up to you...but I need help with blah blah blah can you help me?" I did not respond and going forward I will not even read his texts, as you suggest. I just wanted you to know how both of these videos popped up right when I needed them. I think it is amazing how you do this every day to work through things yourself and to help others work through this very difficult process. I am (mostly) on the other side of healing from this, but your posts still help. Your manner, your insight, and your supportive words make you a positive force out there in the world!

Good morning Andrew. I went back in time to find some of your older videos, and I stopped at 1 year ago. I don't recognize many of the names, but people drift all the time. The "silence" is the key. My ex would not stop talking. I can't tell you how many Tylenol I took back then. I also realize that you CANNOT take "things" to heart. If a person doesn't want to associate with you, let it go! I know one thing for sure, and I will NEVER take sides again. If cruel people want to TRASH someone, i will turn away. My parents were empaths, and they raised me to be kind to people. Knowing me, I took some things out of context, but learned from it. You learn something new everyday, no matter how much you THINK you know, you still have a long way to go.

This is such an important message. All the education re the narcasist leads us to acceptance of what they are and what the relationship really was...we reach the end of hope. At this point the installation of a strict No Contact regime has to be a conscious choice...and it's difficult! ONLY with no contact can you heal..recover and look inward to change yourself by learning to say no...to set boundaries...change your self talk and listen to your inner voice. No contact is the key as you say to your freedom to your healing and a brighter future. No contact is your victory over these malevolent entities. Take the win people DC
