Norrine, I highly recommend, to everyone here, that listening to your videos ( like today’s) is the perfect amount of time to clean out a small area and it keeps us motivated while doing it! That has become a little secret weapon for me to put on cleaning videos or organizing videos that are 15 minutes or less and tackle a problem area! Listening to you always makes me feel encouraged and I won’t even begin something unless I feel that encouragement. Watching someone tackle a problem closet while I do the same is like having a cleaning buddy! Thank you, dear!

Hi Noreen. I am finally, after watching your channel for about 2 years, able to organize my stuff. I am doing it willingly and methodically. I have started it about 2 months ago and I'm still going. I see my house is clean and tidy, with one or two easily dealt with exceptions. My shed has large holes in it where I have brought items or boxes in and organized them using the 4 box system. I am not so overwhelmed anymore. My mental health is getting to be more stable and I am much happier. I do owe this to you you and your channel. I have watched other channels, but it's your way and kindly, gentle voice that helps me, calms me. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have done for me since I started watching you. ♥✨

Norrine, Just watched this video twice and I just started going through all my craft supplies first and then I will work on other areas. My birthday is next month and I will be turning 80. I want to get my belongings pared down so my daughter will not have a lot to go through when I pass away. Plus this is a good way to really clean my house. Thanks you for your ideas. I could watch your videos all day. Thanks for your great ideas.

I have learned soooo much from your channel. For several years now I have wanted to move closer to my kids & grandchildren. My son told me I needed to downsize if he was going to move me. So, I decided I've lived here about 18 years & there is stuff in my attic I still haven't unpacked & if I haven't used any of it in 18 years, chances are I won't use it at all. I worked in there until it got too hot to be up there. I took 9 huge contractor bags (55 gallon bags) of garbage out of that attic & I'm not even half done! I am putting everything in totes & labeling them to make it easier when I do move (I am planning to take at least a couple of years to be ready lol). Now I am working in my craft room & anything in there that I don't use a lot will either go in the attic or get donated. The last time I cleaned in there I donated 5 trash bags full of yarn to a ladies group who uses it to make stuff for veterans, cancer patients, & newborn babies. Every now & then I have to go through that room because I can accumulate so much & I am always finding ways to make it more user friendly. Again, everything gets labeled & what goes to the attic gets put in totes. I will go through each room that way & the stuff I don't use often or the stuff I don't need out is gonna get put in totes, get labeled. & put in the attic. In the fall, I will go back to the attic & clean some more up there. It may sound a little crazy to some but I am actually ENJOYING it! And I have a couple of neighbors who have been really great helping me get the garbage to the curb ❤️ I've even got furniture sitting in a corner of my living room to get rid of! I expect it to take me quite a while to do it all but I do like you said, a little bit at a time, especially with the cost of the totes. I know this comment is long but I hope your subscribers read this because I've been subscribed to your channel a long time & I'm just starting to do this. You all will get there. It doesn't have to be today & it doesn't have to be done all at once. I just took time to envision what I wanted to do & how I wanted it to look, & then started doing it. So far, I am very happy with the results. Thank you so much! You have been such a huge help with this!

Several years ago my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said "Storage space!" He's a terrific hobbyist carpenter, so he built me a shelf unit to my specifications to fit in one corner of our dining room, specifically to hold my art supplies, because at that point the dining room doubled as my studio. It's a beautiful piece of furniture! I went to the Chinese takeout place we always buy from, and bought 25 of their rectangular plastic dinner containers (for $0.25 each), came home and sorted all my little treasured found objects into them, labeled them (tiny plastic bits, old shoelaces, milk jug lids, etc), and told myself this is going to be my system; if I get more of something than will fit in the box, I will have to get rid of it. There are taller shelves for my paints, and an even taller shelf for a pair of filing boxes. I wish I could tell you I stuck with that system. But unfortunately I didn't. I currently have a pile of ... stuff ... almost as tall as that lovely cabinet that I'm trying to go through and organize, but I haven't managed to stay with the process for long enough on any one day to get enough done. Doesn't help that the dining room table has become the dumping ground for all the junk mail that comes in, the bills, the newspapers, my computers, my meds, my husband's meds... oh, and yes, the occasional art project. I find it too easy to get caught up in making something when I come across things that I saved -- I derail my own attempts to organize.

Norrine you are with me on every organizing task I do. " it's going to get worse, before it gets better". I plan to have a yard sale at some point, and everything is priced prior to taking it to the garage shelving. This way if weather will be good, all I have to do is put up a few tables and signs. All but my spice cabinet in the kitchen are cleaned out. My hutch with my large Pfaltzgraff apple dishes has been washed and being put on Ebay slowly. Something is sooo much better than perfect. Thank you. 🙂

Silly girl lol you are the one I like watching! ;) I have pretty much did what you have recommended and it is nice. Not as neat as yours lol I have a space problem and also too many WIP's but my main problem is that when I finish a project or have to set it aside for a week or two ( month or two) I have trouble putting everything away. A place for everything and everything in its's place, which I have but I am short on space and so have to move things to put things away and it builds up. Discipline is what I need LOL At 68 I am not sure I can learn that ;) Good to see you back.

Hey Norrine! Watching your organizing videos always motivate me to start. But then the head kicks in: "5 minutes? Well, I better do 15 to speed it up a bit. But actually, half an hour should be possible too..." I cannot even decide on the timeframe, can you believe that? And one other thing I am struggling with: I keep piles of things I started to organize but then I stop after a few days because I think I got too much into detail, did not declutter enough... it just looks like a new kind of mess to me. Well. That's the point when I stop and just start ignoring the boxes and piles in the corner as it was just another failure. So, now you know. I am a tough case. Hopefully not hopeless... 🙈

In reading the folks comments, I came across a comment by an older lady who said she is concerned about leaving too much craft clutter for her daughter to contend with. This is also my problem as I have quite an extensive collection of art supplies and my son lives 2500 miles away. So when the time comes and he returns to complete everything, he will not have much time off of work to spend getting rid of all my things. It concerns me but I am working on it thanks to your very helpful hints Norrine. Love your channel!

Good talk Noreen. I needed it thanks. My organization has been on going for over a year. I just need to vent (read whine) my excuses. There was a hoarder living in my house for over two years. She is still here but I can't myself out. There is no garbage pick up where I live, so I have a huge and growing pile of junk that I need to come up with the $$ to rent a 20 yard dumpster up. I have tossed a lot of good stuff but it had to happen. Our little St Vinies won't take donations until after school starts. There is a city wide annual yard sale and everyone gives their leftovers to them so they are over stocked. Realistically a yard sale is not workable for me because I live about a quarter mile up a dirt road and honestly I would rather people not know I am up here alone. My latest issue is that I am in dire financial situation and working on a reverse mortgage. I started out in a very organized way because I didn't want to just have a contained mess, but I have an appraisal coming up, so I am in through it under the bed in the closet...hide dirty dishes in the oven. Alrighty then, thanks for listening!

Hi, Norrine. As always, well said. I've been gone for most of the last 10 months. I've had one illness after another, including round to of you know what. Now just getting back on my feet. Part of that getting on my feet is dealing with the piles I've been staring at! Gave me time to think, etc. I've finally got working on a few of your ideas, making storage boxes (which in turn is getting rid of the boxes). I took another of your ideas, gutter storage for ribbon and downsized it. I made gutters for my washi tape and it fits in the tray of my storage box! This is real hard for me. I do have to change my thinking. I have to let go of it.

Some of those I like best are for decor ideas rather than organizing. One that I love for both her old home restoration and decor also has an engineering degree and offers a home efficiency course, and that is Paige at Farmhouse Vernacular. I also subscribe to Cas at Clutterbug, the Organized Soprano, Dana K White, Dawn at The Minimal Mom for organizing and decluttering. I don’t watch all of their videos except for you and Paige, and for decor/thrifting/thrift flips I also watch Andrea at Pine and Prospect Home and Rachel at Sweet and Simple Home. You, Andrea, Paige and Rachel are my four favorites and I watch everything you/they post.

I like my job as a professional calligrapher, and also need the income to afford my rent etc. But down sizing from my previous 28 sq meter studio to a small space that I also now live in is quite the challenge! (My current home is smaller than my studio used to be!) Economy tells me it is necessary to work with what I have and so I am finally tackling my studio materials and tools, of which there is a lot - I also make handmade books, do portraits of pets, do botanical painting, and I play piano and sing. And I do my own sewing... So far, I have organized and decluttered my bedroom space and closet, bathroom is done, sunroom/music room/lounge is also done, as is my kitchen. Oy.... But you guys are being so helpful and inspiring, so a BIG SHOUT OUT to you Norinne and Kay!!! Thank you!

As someone who was just moved (again), I agree with the ‘would I keep this if I was just about to move!’ I didn’t get a chance to declutter before I moved this time but I’m going to do your suggestion as I unpack.

@@TheCraftyOrganizer it was ok, just short notice. We bought our first home!!! It needs a lot more work than we anticipated so currently I have 4 rooms we can’t live in but the guy is coming to fit the floors tomorrow and I can’t wait!!!

Good ideas in this video! 👍 I have a grammatical suggestion….in the opening saying, the proper word to use is “perfectly”, not “perfect”

It can become frustrating when you have so much stuff cluttering up the space that you don't feel like you have room to sort them! That's what I'm dealing with in my garage. I need to build a lumber rack on the wall, but there's lumber all over the floor, grr.. ditto tools, etc etc etc.
