Why I Defy

Why I Defy

Күн бұрын

More of a podcast like video just talking about some thoughts on dreams (why we dream, what it means, etc), giving up processed sugar, building good habits and beating laziness.
Made a few mistakes in my speech but this is all practice, gotta repeat things to get better. "Minimize" was the word I wanted to use, not "minimalize".
Some people commented the last video saying they would listen to a pod cast by me so found something in between... let me know what you think anyway!
As always, these are just ideas, make sure you do research and find your own answers before making any life altering decisions. That said, don't use that as an excuse to be lazy either. Go get something done.

More like a podcast? Still just trying new ideas. Made a few mistakes with words and speech but hey, learning. Gotta continually do something to get better at it. And yeah could've put better footage to it but again, just testing things out. :D Besides, who doesn't want to stare at gaming mice for 18 minutes? Exactly.

Yup, this is the video I needed before I went to bed. No idly browser reddit and KZbin. A few thoughts I had throughout the video, don't mind the dump. Something I've noticed recently is that since I'm between jobs right now I've been sleeping a lot. I love the feeling of dreaming, and I tend to remember it most after long nights of sleep. I have to check myself and make sure I'm not sleeping 9, 10 hours a night because I like dreaming so much, and I have no urgent matters I need to attend to since it's summer break. I've been trying to not "identify" as lazy. I read something once that if you're calling yourself something then you'll start to believe it in no time at all. It's a fine line to walk though because it's easy to get discouraged because of failure and any laziness that does happen. I'm definitely way more aware of sugar now. My mom was recently diagnosed with diabetes and I'm analyzing my eating habits much more now. I'm aware of it but I haven't quite been able to phase most of it out. There's some reduction but not much. Something I've been telling myself a lot lately is "if not now, then when?" If you don't make the small steps, then how are you going to achieve the ideals you want to strive towards.

Interesting video! It'd be great to hear your thoughts more on dreams and perhaps other altered states of consciousness as well. I recommend reading into lucid dreaming if you haven't already, very fascinating subject which provides great insight on the relationship between sleep and conscious waking experience and how they can seamlessly blend.

nice video, Zy. adding to the list thing: it helps if you write those the night before you go to bed, for the next day. biggest frog (task) at the top. and of course, if you've completed one task, don't forget to smash that like but... ehh I mean to cross it out, that feels as good. my bias towards sugar definitely has shifted a few years ago. I especially liked the cake example of yours, can totally relate to that one. I am not completely sugar-free but I am really monitoring it. so no, it's not paranoia :P

Firoc naw, I don’t have dreams. I rarely sleep deeply. I am easy to wake. I used to have dreams but since I became an unbelievably stressed adult, dreams are rare. I started taking medications to help me sleep and so far so good, I sleep better and have dreams. I don’t remember sometimes what those dreams were but I know I had dreams and I get into REM.

I think that you felt that that point is your front because that's where your eyes are or in line with your eyes so where you feel or see the world from. I don't think its the point of consciousness but I get where you're coming from and you have some very good info, ideas and habits to reinforce in your video.

So much of what you said is resonating with how I am now. Sugar, sleep, motivation, being lazy and dreams do sum up my life to date and in some ways I have paid for them or will be paying for them. Sugar is one good example. I wasn't necessarily bad, but in the past few years my sugar consumption had increased greatly due to stress. All I thought was "something to look forward to, a reward for being overly stressed out". I have paid a price for sugar consumption, teeth fillings and teeth damage. Thankfully not excessive, but it's an embarrassment on my part as well as the physical damage caused by sugar and the additional damage from going to the dentist to rectify the damage from sugar. I made it a goal this year to stop consuming sugar where I can. So far I have had some successes, but also punishment to. I've so avoided sugary products for the past few months. No biscuits (my greatest vice), cakes or chocolate bars. I'm doing my best to avoid sugary products like breakfast cereals or those products that contain hidden sugars that we can all so easily miss. I still like chocolate, but I've moved to the higher cocoa based versions which have little to no sugar, i.e 90% or 100% cocoa based (prefer the latter). I only allow a square or two per day. Sadly there is a side effect in that it can stain teeth so I am looking to reduce that to. I also tried Intermittent Fasting after doing (what I thought was enough) research into it. Reducing the amount of meals between two and three per day. Unfortunately, I may have done something wrong or my body reacted to it badly as I've been through a bad couple of months. My blood pressure shot up from 124/84 to 180/97, I had very bad heart palpitations, leg and thigh aching where I had trouble sitting and very low tolerance to stress. I was in a very bad way. I came off IF and continued to eat healthily with regular meals and no sugar. Slowly pulling myself back (currently where I am now). Not sure of the real cause, but there are a some possibilities. An electrolyte imbalance or mineral imbalance, stressed adrenals in that I was still recovering from the issues with work and it may have been too much on the body or I'm just one of those not inclined to IF. Complicated mess. I'm feeling better as the days go, but recovery is ongoing. One thing for sure, I won't be going back to sugar again. Finding I'm less and less interested in eating it, but there are moments of weakness that I seem ok to manage. I'm researching more into healthy eating, finding better food sources and seeing what else I can try going forward. I hope to get back into exercising soon, just doing what I have been recommended to dro. Long walks and stretching to reduce stress.
@WhyIDefy
@WhyIDefy 5 жыл бұрын
I thought about doing that fasting thing... but I don't think it's right. I think training our eating habits toward healthy foods, so when we're hungry, we just eat the right stuff rather than deny the feeling, is the way to go. Glad to hear you're trying but hope you have better results with everything soon!

@@WhyIDefy I watched a few videos on KZbin that promoted it as being healthy. Although that thought has changed after the reaction I had. I spoke to a few nutritionists and a Doctor who believed the reaction may have not been because of the IF. Going forward, I'll stick to healthier eating and getting my stress down . Probably the wisest idea, cheers!. (Many thanks for responding, appreciate it. I noticed you mentioned responding to a video comment in SpudHunters stream, but wasn't sure if you meant me or someone else, so didn't want to assume).
@WhyIDefy
@WhyIDefy 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah was replying to you, sometimes I have time to read comments on my phone but too hard to reply on there and then forget because I get super busy. As for IF, that's another reason I say I'm not a health expert and that people need to do their own research... I only want to get people thinking about this stuff, not try to give them answers, health is too complicated and everyone is different. It's taken me years to figure out what I need, through trial and error. I think that's going to be true for most people.

Great talk as always, Zy! Thank you! If you are interested in dreams you should try "lucid dreaming" techniques. This is not pseudo-science, it is confirmed by neuroscientists. With those techniques you can train your mind to be aware of every bit of your dreams. I bet you experienced it as well that you were dreaming and you knew that it was a dream while being in that dream. So the good side is, you will ALWAYS be the director and the hero in your own dreams. If you encounter marshmallows the next time, you can just turn them into new mice and review it in your dream! :) The bad side of it is, you won't ever be surprised because you actively decide what will happen during that dream. Have a nice one!

@@dariusus9870 I would say a good mindset is a mindset that allows you to bring forth the best version of yourself. It can then be debated what the best version of yourself is. I think that is up to the individual, but, in general, as long as you are being challenged and trying to make the world into a better place then i think you're not far off the track.

And it was like this for 3 years in many dreams, but she told me she was not aware of me in her romantic dreams so she would proceed with whatever came next.

Aside from a rush of adrenaline, horror movies have nothing to offer and, like you, I don't watch them. However, I disagree with your idea of minimizing the negatives. I believe that by avoiding them we make ourselves more vulnerable to them; just like you don't want a child raised in a sterile environment so that it doesn't end up with a weak immune system. There is value in negatives. Watching drama might help you process your emotions in familiar situations. Or it can prepare you for things you've yet to experience. Now obviously, you should not mindlessly consume anything because not everything has something to offer. Just don't deprive yourself of things merely on them being labelled as not positive. Interesting video btw, would definitely like more of this.
