I love how they talk about the increased speeds and how that will be an amazing improvement, and completely ignore the fact that even thin walls stop WiFi 7, meaning its basically useless for any home or business setting. Its gonna see uses in conventions and concerts and a few other niche places, but WIFI 8 is going to be the more useful standard as they will HAVE to focus on sending more data at a longer wavelength. Or at least I hope. If they try to use an even shorter Wavelength for WiFi 8 its gonna be practically useless.

yeah i don't have any devices that use "5" let alone 6 or 7. if i want a fast connection i use ethernet. wifi is for devices that move around so range is the goal with speed coming second, but none of these engineers walk more than 5 minutes a day or even go outside so i guess they'll never set their priorities in line with the everyman

The end consumer will like it though not enough of them to actively buy a new router and supported device to get it for it to be a meaningful thing on a spreadsheet. So new product buyers might get one but i cannot see anyone upgrading their local network to get it.

@@Peregrine1989 You know that WiFi 7 uses 5GHz and 2.4 GHz too, right ? The 2.4 GHz one is not reserved for WiFi 1 to 4 you know (it's just WiFi 5 that cannot use it, because they were a bit dumb back then, but they came back to their senses with WiFi 6). So on 2.4 GHz on WiFi 7 you will see ... some benefits. Of course, not the maximum speed, but I wouldn't be surprised if WiFi 7 on 2.4 GHz to be about the same speed or close to a WiFi 5 on 5 GHz. And in general WiFi 6 and 7 are much stable and better working in "crowded" areas, like with many devices, both routers and clients.

Wi-Fi 7 will make Wi-Fi more polished in general with 2.4, 5, and 6ghz all being used at the same time. It will also bring improvements for mesh networks which will make it easier for devices to switch between access points seamlessly. Insane speeds that are only possible under a laboratory conditions aren't what matter, the overall reliability and continuity of the standard is what matters.

Wow. WiFi7 should really speed up how quickly I get mad at my ISP for throttling my "100 Mbps" speeds while I'm watching shows in glorious already 720p as the framerate drops and I start seeing 240p blurfests. Of course as soon as their servers realize I'm trying to access Ookla, all of a sudden my speeds skyrocket. Weird.

Obstructions are worse for the newer, higher frequencies (e.g. the 6GHz of 6E/7). Heck, mmWave cell signals require LoS and antennae on a bunch of streetlamps or whatever.

Fun fact: If you have an older laptop with a card expansion slot, and an internal wi-fi card, you can add a wi-fi card to the expansion slot and bridge them together to basically emulate two different connections from the same device. I did that several years ago, I'm talking 2010.

Card(A) would connect with Card(B) [expansion card]. Card(A) would utilize DNS to give Card(B) its own localhost IP address. You could then theoretically send packets from the machine back to itself as maximum-spec speeds. So the new cards aren't actually that much faster, they just display more frames if you use DLSS 3. Don't get me wrong, DLSS is cool tech, but it's at best misleading to imply that it has that much more processing power when they don't.

The new 6E and 7 is great tech, but 90% of people are fine with (good) WiFi 5 let alone 7. I know people upgrading their equipment even though their ISP is the bottleneck. Very few people need the bandwidth on for LAN anctivities either.

Exactly, I use automatic1111 and comfyui, my card has 10gb and I can generate images in 1024x1024 without a problem and I often upscale them up to ultrawide mostly without issues in SD and SDXL. It sure does use all of it but it works and it's fast enough that I can iterate and have fun.

16GB is not the minimum requirement for Stable Diffusion or Facebook's LLaMA. You can run Stable Diffusion on even a GTX 1060, and LLaMA 7B too.

A note on the StableDiffusion with the RX 7600XT - Stable Diffusion is still very poorly optimised for non-Nvidia cards as it uses CUDA. I get better performance in Stable Diffusion with my GTX 1060 than with my RX 7800XT... Its a similar story for most GAN applications. Would strongly suggest to not buy that card purely for ML purposes. Could still be a great card for gaming, or for when ML applications think of AMD cards more than just an afterthought.

Stable Difussion works on 11GB VRAM just fine... Not ideal as training can take longer and there are certain drawbacks, but it will do in a pinch...

I like that wifi is advancing, but the routers with the newer standards of wifi are quite expensive. I moved recently and the default google fiber router is kind of crap with how it's set up(shoved into a wall behind a panel in the the laundry room). Luckily the ethernet ports work here and I have a 50ft ethernet cable. My last place didn't have a working ethernet port in my basement apartment, I missed wired internet.

If you want to see LGs transparent screens for yourself I believe there are a few in the line for velocicoaster in Universal. There’s an effect in the line where the real ride trains go flying by and then the “windows” you look through show raptors running after the trains. They are transparent oled screens, which I think only LG makes currently though the ride opened in 2021 so the screens they make now probably have better transparency and whatnot

Pretty sure it was only 8 on launch, but then got pushed down to 6 (it worked well on my 1660). Last I checked the lightening made it technically possible to run with 4gb and there were unconfirmed reports that it could go lower but became increasingly unstable and exponentially slower.

However, very few devices support WiFi 7 currently, with the likely exception of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra. the iPhone 16 Pro likely coming in September to include WiFi 7, and don't be surprised that the upcoming MacBook Air M3 and the M3-based Mac mini and Mac Studio m0odels also support WiFi 7.

I work a little with eyeglasses so i think i know why they have a limit. Some prescriptions are extremely thick, and there are difficulties working with those. There are also lenses with multiple prescriptions in one lens, those likely won't be available either. There's other specialty things involving prism and stuff which i don't know much about-those may require special handling that may make them just not offer it. What i suspect will be offered will be single vision glasses probably around +/-5 with a max cyl around 2.5, but I'm kind of guessing. This covers the vast majority of people that don't have degraded eyes

From what I can understand yes to quote Qualcomm "High Band Simultaneous Multi-Link offers wider effective channels by aggregating two available channels. I think 'high bands' means 5-6GHz Because China doesn't have 6GHz so they combine 160 + 80 for a 240 MHz channel just using 5GHz. Storefronts/fridges. No kidding, there’s already a CVS store in Los Angeles where the beverage fridges have TV screens instead of doors. You grab a handle and you pull an entire TV-door out to get the beverage you want, then close the TV-door. Naturally, the TV screen displays the kinds of beverages you’ll find on every shelf, alongside animated ads and promos. I was really surprised and excited to see it, I took pics and a video if anyone wants to see. Or just look it up on KZbin I guess.

16gb isn't necessary for generative AI. There are posts about using Automatic1111's UI with Stable Diffusion working with 4GBs of VRAM. Does it help you load large models like fp32 and run them faster? Absolutely, but it's not the minimum.

16 gigabytes is NOT the minimum amount of memory for Stable Diffusion. You can comfortably use it with 6 gigabytes. The image will be generated for about 15-30 seconds on a laptop 3060. Yes, it is better to have more VRAM for very fast generation, but this is not a mandatory requirement, as it may seem from the video

The minimum system requirements for stable diffusion is not 16GB vram, many people generate on 4gb.

Language models, such as LLAMA 2, require atleast 16GB of VRAM. I have no clue about image geneeration. He most likely meant the former, and used to the latter for the joke.
