Live Coverage: WI v. Kyle Rittenhouse - Kenosha Shooting
Day 4 Jury Began Deliberations at 10:15am ET
REMINDER of the judge's ruling in defense use of force expert testimony: Schroeder told the attorneys that Black wouldn’t be allowed to testify about what Rittenhouse was thinking when he pulled the trigger or whether he definitively acted in self-defense.
Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger said if Schroeder allowed Black to testify only about the timeline of events that night he wouldn’t call his own expert to the stand. Defense attorney Mark Richards agreed to the deal.
Charges:
1. First Degree Reckless Homicide, Use of a Deadly Weapon (Joseph Rosenbaum)
2. First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Use of a Deadly Weapon (Richard
McGinnis, reporter for Daily Caller, not injured but near Rosenbaum when Rittenhoue
fired)
3. First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Use of a Deadly Weapon (unknown male)
4. First Degree Intentional Homicide, Use of a Deadly Weapon (Anthony Huber)
5. Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide, Use of a Deadly Weapon (Gaige
Grosskreutz)
6. Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Person under the Age of 18 (JUDGE DISMISSED THIS COUNT ON THE DAY OF CLOSING ARGUMENTS)
7. DISMISSED AT THE END OF STATE”S CASE. Prosecution failed to put evidence in front of the jury that there was a lawful curfew in place (appears to be an oversight by prosecution) Defense moved to dismiss, judge agreed. Fail to Comply with Order of Local Government - Emergency Management Activity (citation, carries no penalty) - everyone present was breaking the 7pm curfew issued by the sheriff.
Possible Sentence: Max: Life in Prison Without Parole (WI does not have the DP)
JURY CHOSEN IN ONE DAY. 20 jurors have been selected in WI v. Kyle Rittenhouse. 9 men and 11 women. (8 are alternates)
Rittenhouse shot and killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 26, and Anthony Huber, 26, and injured Gaige Grosskreutz, 27. Prosecutors say that Rittenhouse, then 17 and from Illinois, was a vigilante looking for a fight. He, like other right-wingers, went to Kenosha, Wisconsin ostensibly to protect property. This happened as protests over police shooting local man Jacob Blake turned violent. Rittenhouse’s attorneys assert he was acting in self-defense. This case became a cause célèbre among conservatives.
Prosecutors have struggled in court, failing to introduce evidence of prior aggressive behavior. This included evidence showing him attacking a woman who was in an altercation with his sister. The other is that he was closely linked to the violent, far-right Proud Boys organization.
Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder said an appellate court would reverse him if he allowed these in trial. The evidence was too prejudicial, he said. He left it up in the air whether he would allow footage showing someone identified as Rittenhouse discussing a Black man exiting a CVS pharmacy. Rittenhouse believed the man was shoplifting.

Honestly, looking at the evidence of this case it is downright shameful that it even made it to court. Most obvious case of self defence I may have ever seen in my life. How it got to court at all let alone all the way to a jury verdict i'll never know. One thing i'm wondering is how on earth it took them 4 days to reach the blaring obvious decision that he's innocent. At least they got the right verdict in the end. Took too long though. This kid has basically lost a year of his life he'll never get back. I doubt he'll be compensated for that. There are no winners in this situation really. Except maybe the future victims of Rosenbaum the paedophile.

@@Wudanmaster116 He didn't. He shot him once in the hip, once in the hand, once in the head and once in the back at an angle consistent with forward momentum while lunging. The only remotely valid theory of the case the prosecution had was to say that he provoked the attack from Rosenbaum and that was murder, which changes the context of the escape leaving him no right to defend himself from capture. And the evidence for that was very weak. A blurry video with just a few pixels of supposed aiming a gun at Rosenbaum (the time he wasn't in floodlight). I don't like how the prosecution wasted time on the idea that his mere presence there was provocation. How is someone going to sentence him based on that?

God's justice indeed. Can you imagine if it had come back guilty? At that time? The millions of us watching who actually understood the case and saw the evidence (and aren't possesed by demons or whatever it is that causes all these muppets to think this kid was guilty of anything) would have been so disillusioned and in despair. Especially at that time... We'd all been bombarded with so much venom and lies, I submit that we all needed to see justice and truth shine through in America at least a little bit. This was like a ray of hope - a reminder that God's always with us, He'll win in the end, stay strong and perservere because there's always hope.

juries hold no power. 1st, they're conscripted, by force of law, against their will, 2nd- they're holed up indefinitely while they are told what to think by two sides for hours or days on end, 3rd-the judge manipulates or instructs them what to think and do & 4th-the judge can just ignore them anytime he wants and even override or redirect the verdict. If "it's still the ordinary people who hold power" is true, then the people of Kenosha would have came out and stopped the riots in their city, instead they refused and let the vermin run wild. The only one who held power in this case, was Kyle.

@@immeohmyoh 1. The jury holds the power to decide whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. The judge decides the sentencing. 2. Jury duty is mandatory because it allows a random picking of real people that attend the court sessions in person to form an educated decision and provide the highest likeliness that bias is kept out of the case and the same people are informed through the case, all with the same knowledge. We wouldn’t want a jury that was alternating throughout the case 3. The judge does not manipulate the Jury at all, the Judge however is in charge of making sure that the jury is aware of the functions of relevant laws. 4. The judge cannot “just ignore” the jury verdict, other than in very extreme and rare cases in which the Jury’s verdict cannot reasonably be supported by evidence. This almost never happens and it wouldn’t have happened here.

The fact this even went to trial and was such big news is puzzling. He acted in self defense. It was obvious and should have been decided within a week of investigation. What is wrong with this country?

It's clearly a turning point. The media lies were made abundantly clear with the exposure of this case, at a time when some leftist activism is getting a backlash as well (e.g. public schooling). It's no surprise how recent polls are turning out.

All of you saying Guilty need to truly learn the laws of this country and learn that personal opinions and feelings mean nothing in the eyes of the law, and rightfully so. Justice has prevailed today and a huge case has been won in regards to standing ones ground when being attacked. Great job by the jurors and now the defense needs to go after the SA and have him disbarred for his fragrant violations of Kyle's constitutional rights.

These people don't know anything except their feelings, and they twist and distort reality around them to suit those feelings. All the facts in the world cannot convince someone who has abandoned the use of logic and reason, and most of them, at a young age. Most come from homes where their parent(s) were just as distorted in their thinking, and career criminals to boot.

You're right for the most part, but you need to keep in mind that Kyle did not stand his ground. He was chased. He ran. He was chased. He ran. He was chased and was caught up to, and he defended himself. He was chased. He ran and was caught up to and defended himself again. Some states have "stand your ground" statutes, but Wisconsin does not, and Kyle only used lethal force when his attackers caught up to him. He followed the law to the letter.

Canadian here, this is self defense in it purest form. People were threating him, attacked him and pointed guns at him. He should be a free person. the only issue I have is the fact he had to resort to this in the first place. As a person of color, a guilty verdict would have set back progress even further because different treatment because of social situation goes against the blindness of a court.

The emotion you see on the defense attorneys face after the verdict is read is so telling. And to think that if he was found guilty we would be sending a 17 year old to prison for LIFE for simply defending himself which should be a basic right in America. Ugh, obviously I feel bad for Kyle for going through this circus show but also the defense team cause they were right there beside him fighting the good fight. Well done, jury.
