I want to be an actress since I was a kid. I am in a wheelchair too. I always do plays in my town. But seeing Marissa makes me have hope for my dreams! Also I am so obsessed with musicals! ❤

As a wheelchair-user and an aspiring actress, I hope the success of this film can encourage other writers and directors to include more physically-disabled actors and actresses in their projects, especially in the fairytale/fantasy genre. I know it's a long shot, but I hope they make versions of "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding Hood", and "Snow White" but with physically-disabled actresses in the lead roles, I hope to play Snow White since people have always told me I look like her.

I like that they made things accessible to her on the set. Now if only could make the backstage of a Broadway theater more accessible

Backstage of any theatre. Cant even go on a backstage tour as a fan if you are disabled.

I'm so glad they're being so inclusive and loving to everyone, no matter their skin color, how they look, etc. I'm so glad they're actually including a disabled actress. It gives me hope for this world.

It's cool. I just hope it won't be like in many modern movies. Where producers focus on being inclusive and forget all the rest.

Nessa is one of my favorite characters in the musical and I'm so happy that it's played by an actual wheelchair user, really excited to see Marissa in this movie❤

It genuinely makes total sense because she can manoeuvre a chair better than any actor can, so she can play to her strength. I hope she's included in the choreography too.

This is awesome! I’m wondering tho….how are they gonna do THAT scene from act 2 in the show? I guess they could cut it if it really came down to that, since it doesn’t affect the overall plot too much, but it’s still a great character moment for Nessa
@JoseBraghiroli17 сағат бұрын
spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler below . . . . I think they could still make it work. I remember an episode of a show called TITANS, about DC superheroes, where they had an actress with an amputated leg play Barbara Gordon (the character is a wheelchair user in the comics); for flashbacks to before her injury, they used a body double for wide shots and a set of special crutches for close ups with the actress. So, with that in mind, I'm sure they could have come up with a way to simulate Marissa standing up and walking. Now, I am not a wheel chair user, nor do I have a close relationship with a wheel chair user, so I cannot speak to how appropriate (or not) doing that would be. From my very ignorant POV, I would see no issue with them simulating the stand and the steps, but someone else with more experience can probably give a more nuanced take.

So happy to see a disabled actress playing this role. It is based in a total myth that a disabled actor could never play Nessa because wheelchair people can't stand up or walk for that scene. Over 70% actually can, so it's been a weak excuse. Disabled actors are barred from playing "able bodied roles", so preserve the ones they can ❤

That is a question the disabled community find intrusive and would rather you not ask, unless they want to tell you when they are ready
